Is Gene Simmons' relationship with longtime love Shannon Tweed on the rocks?

It sure looks that way, if you believe what they said during what is surely one of the most awkward (or awkwardly rehearsed?) segments in "The Today Show" history Monday. The couple of 28 years, whose ongoing show "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" premiers Tuesday on A&E, traded jabs about Simmons alleged infidelities; Tweed even told hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford that their relationship has "pretty much unraveled."

"Those last two [years together] were a bitch," Tweed said.

Simmons and Tweed have lived together since 1985 and have two children together--Nicholas and Sophie. Tweed suggested that the pair lasted for nearly three decades for their children's sake.

"My kids are in college, they're cooked," Tweed said. "We held it together until they got to college."

Let's take a closer look here, shall we? Gene's reality show just happens to start it's new season tonight on AE. Tweed and Simmons filmed it months ago, yet we are supposed to watch things unravel in not-so-real time over the coming weeks. What better way to promote this crap than to have them appear on the Today show in a combative mood? Gee, will they resolve things before the final episode, and what humorous escapades will Gene undertake to win back Shannon's love? The only mystifying thing about this shit is why it isn't being shown on VH-1 in between a Brett Michaels show and an episode of Celebrity Police Blotter.

You could be right on. I am not a big fan of the show but I watch it sometimes. I am a big fan of Simmons and Tweed though so I hope this is just for show. I have no interst in watching them air a break up on TV.

Considering the median age of most KISS fans at this point, it would need to be the type of medication that wears off after seven or eight minutes, in order to prevent injury as they nod off to sleep from the exertion.

Still can't be as bad as what happened to John Cleese under California divorce laws where his wife seemed to get well over half plus a huge support payment when there were no kids, he didn't marry her until his 50s and he had already made his money.

Good thing for fans is that it has forced him to go back out to work. Gene would have had the problem that there is no way he could squeeze any more money out of the long time screwed Ki$$ fans.

Gene Simmons Family Jewels Recap: Shannon Walks Out
June 15, 2011 04:41 AM by Lucille_Barilla

After twenty-seven years together and two children, Shannon begins to doubt her relationship with Gene, and that is part of what Gene Simmons Family Jewels season six will focus on. Eldest son Nick’s move out of the family home wasn’t as traumatic for Shannon as when daughter Sophie left for college. Shannon realizes that that the rock and roll lifestyle and Gene’s constant time on the road away from her and their family may not be what she wants anymore. Gene Simmons Family Jewels got serious when Shannon said, “Milestones are when you take stock of your life when you either want to move forward or take check of what you’re doing.” After finding photos of Gene at yet another business meeting with two buxom blondes, Shannon has had enough. She asks Gene to go to therapy to find out why he has a constant need for attention from women and why he is still such a workaholic at sixty-one years old. Revealed Shannon, “When the kids were younger we didn’t have many differences. As time went on, we had differences but I hid them from the children because I didn’t want them to get upset.” Gene heads to the therapist, but finds it difficult to reveal both to her and himself why he acts as he does when he is in “work” mode, which is all the time. He also addresses his fear of failure and the institution of marriage. Son Nick also feels that it is time for Gene to hang up the double life and allow Shannon to be part of his complete life once and for all. Daughter Sophie tells Gene that if she was ever forced to make a choice between her parents, she would go with her mom, but would always love her dad. At a emotional therapy session, Gene and Shannon confront their problems and it concludes with Shannon walking out of the session, returning home, packing a bag and leaving the home they shared. I kept switching between this, an episode of After The Catch on Discovery and an American Pickers rerun. Guess which won out?

The inescapable conclusion even the most casual viewer can come to is that Gene Simmons is an insufferable, narcissistic, utterly pompous and equally despicable shithead. This creep is so self-absorbed that he will more than likely die in a fire, so mesmerized by his own image in a mirror that he wouldn't notice the house burning down around him.

The cynic in me says this entire deal is calculated. I can just picture a strategy meeting taking place including the show's production team, with Simmons saying "Now that the kids out of the house Shannon, how do we make the show interesting? I know! Lets have an emotional, heart-wrenching break up! Then we can kill off several episodes with me working my way back to your graces, and at the season's end have us standing as a family stronger than ever!"

This scenario isn't totally unbelievable: Both Tweed and Simmons have dabbled as actors in the past. Essentially playing themselves wouldn't be much of a reach, and they could always hire acting coaches to get them through the more difficult scenes. And considering the various friends, acquaintances and business partners frequenting the show each week are more believable as actors playing roles to begin with, the entire idea comes off as completely feasible.

The thing is, the show goes to bizarre lengths when Gene isn't featured. There was an episode called "My Fair Lady" that featured a friend from the Tweed sister's childhood visiting for a few days. Instantly, this supposedly happily married housewife is taken out on the town and given a complete makeover, including a new hairstyle, wardrobe and botox injections. Next thing you know, the women are at a bar and this housewife goes over and picks up a complete stranger, agreeing to have dinner with him. Of course, the Tweeds do nothing to discourage the situation until the woman's husband shows up unexpectedly while she's out on her date. The woman is picked up by Shannon's goofy sister and returned to the waiting husband, who is confused by her new appearance. Gene walks in after being away, looking just as baffled as the audience must have been.

What the fuck are we watching here? Would you want to have friends like these, let alone spend time watching their exploits on tv each week?

California is a 50/50 state. Also a slick lawyer could argue that being together for several decades and raising two children would qualify as a common law marriage. Basically they were married they just didn't pay the marriage tax (buy the license) and have the minister or rabbi do the hocus pocus. Just because Shannon didn't crush a glass with Gene and buy a license doesn't mean he can toss her away. She did a good job raising his kids and taking care of home while he put on makeup and fucked skanks.

Their ratings must be tanking if they have to pull this kind of bizzare stunt. Maybe Gene took a hard hit with his investments? He's rumored to be worth $300 million. To be honest I don't think Gene is money dumb enough to lose enough money to where he has to pull the desperate shit on television. Maybe he told Shannon she would get the money from the five new shows so let's make money off our nasty breakup.

After 28 years of living with KISS singer Gene Simmons, it seems like Shannon Tweed -- former model and mother of his two children -- might have finally had enough. During the couple's appearance on The Joy Behar Show, the rocker made a comment that seemed to seriously irk his lady. At that point, it appears Tweed decided she couldn't stand her longtime partner another moment, so she got up and left the studio..

And while speaking to Kathie Lee and Hoda on "Today," Tweed mercilessly skewered the Kiss bassist every chance she had. And when asked specifically about their future, Tweed said, "It's not looking great." .

Their palpable tension seemingly stems from an incident depicted on the last episode of "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" where Tweed confronts her longtime lover with a photo of two ladies hanging on his arms that was posted on TMZ. Of course, it's wasn't just the one photo that did it: Simmons has claimed to have slept with literally thousands of women. Tweed, in her own words on the reality series, is "sick of hearing it, sick of seeing it and sick of living with it.".

For his part, Simmons claims he had never met the women in the TMZ photo before and that they were only involved in a business dinner, a claim Tweed dismissed with a curt "oh, please" on "Today.".

Yikes. It sounds pretty serious, but for now the former model/actress and the rocker aren't laying their cards on the table: When directly asked about the status of their relationship, Tweed wouldn't give a definitive answer; the two of them do have a TV show to promote, after all, and you can't very well spoil the outcome if you want people to tune in, right?.

Simmons himself has been uncharacteristically quiet, even tongue-tied, during these interviews, denying the photo is indicative of any philandering on his part, but clearly also unhappy with the way things are going..

As for Tweed, she didn't mince words when she described their relationship: "It's pretty much unraveled," she bluntly stated. They might have 28 years of history, but according to Tweed, "those last two [years] were a b----.".

Although the whole thing could be a stint to drum up interest in their reality series, it sure doesn't soun<div><object width="576" height="324"><param name="movie" value="http://d.yimg.com/nl/ymusic/site/player.swf"></param><param name="flashVars" value="vid=25617914&"></param><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed width="576" height="324" allowFullScreen="true" src="http://d.yimg.com/nl/ymusic/site/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars="vid=25617914&"></embed></object></div>d like the future is looking bright for the long-time couple. .

What Gene and Shanon have is undeniable they're closeness is not a game, that is a real friendship.

If they can forgive each other for the bullshit and not use the power play of love is another story.

I watched the show and before he is proposing to her, she is giving the commentary breaks and you can see she is wearing the ring, the way they shoot this stuff is never time lined as presented.

They leave you hanging on her reply at the end of the show but during the show she is wearing the ring . as mentioned above.

MYOP she loves the fact that he asked and that is all she ever wanted that special thing dudes don't understand..If next season they actually marry that is up to her.

Yes, if she decided to leave him NOW after decades of living together, she could get ANY court in the land to agree she is worth half Gene's assets, so what the hell. A piece of paper won't change anything, but as part of the Family Jewels series the ratings will go through the roof and Gene will be able to demand a lot more cash for another season.
