:umm:

An adolescent baboon has escaped from the Jackson, New Jersey Six Flags amusement park and is now roaming New Jersey neighborhoods according to an MSNBC and AP report.

The baboon in question was initially seen on Thursday by a woman who said it was sitting on her back porch in Jackson.

That same day the baboon was spotted near Interstate 195 by a driver. There was no confirmation if the baboon had his thumb up or held an "Africa or bust" sign.

When asked about the escaped baboon, a Six Flags spokesperson told AOL Travel, "Yesterday afternoon we began receiving calls from Jackson Police that people had seen what looked like a baboon. Unfortunately they were not able to find the animal or its tracks. The search was called off. Then the calls began again today and our team and the police began the search again. This afternoon Jackson police actually spotted what looked like a baboon. Then at about 3:45 p.m. our team spotted an adolescent baboon near Metedeconk Golf Course in Jackson."

Six Flags was initially unable to confirm if it was their baboon, and still cannot fully make the claim it is theirs because they don't chip their adolescent baboons, and don't keep an accurate count of the primates.

"We count all of our species with the exception of baboons and birds. We know we have approximately 150 of them," said the Six Flags spokesperson.

"They breed pretty readily which makes it difficult to make out how many animals there are," she continued.

Six Flags suggests that the danger is very minimal. "They are vaccinated and typically avoid people. Whoever this little guy is, he's probably very scared."

Still, to be safe they recommend people not approach him as he's been on the run for 24 hours and could be nervous. Six Flags advises that if you see him then you should call the Jackson police and provide details of where you last saw the adolescent baboon so they can tranquilize him and bring him back home to the park.

As of 5 p.m. today, "He's still on the move and headed towards the Freehold direction."

Maybe the baboon in question just wanted to enjoy the long 4th of July weekend with the rest of us, or was inspired by a sneak preview of the new Rise of the Planet of the Apes due out in August.

Hopefully the Baboon Apocalypse is not upon us all.

He's probably trying to get home to Newark.
