Rep. Michele Bachmann is the first Republican presidential candidate to sign the Family Leader pledge disavowing gay marriage, premarital sex, and porn. But perhaps the most outrageous part of the pledge is the section that implies that maybe slavery wasn't all that bad for black families.

Declaring that "[u]nmistakably, the Institution of Marriage in America is in great crisis," the document states:

Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA’s first African-American President.

Maybe they should get a bit of credit for acknowledging that slavery was "disastrous" for black Americans. But that passage seems to suggest that maybe things actually were better for black Americans then. Yes, being kept as property, forced into marriages arranged by slave masters, and raped by those masters was great for black people. As Jack & Jill Politics also points out, breaking up families to sell off slaves was hardly pro-family values. It's an insensitive comparison that ignores history.

Bachmann's campaign has not responded to a request for comment about this particular line in the pledge.

The pledge, which is being promoted by Family Leader president and former Mike Huckabee ally Bob Vander Plaats, asks GOP candidates to committee to 14 vows, including "personal fidelity to my spouse," rejection of Sharia law, and "earnest, bona fide legal advocacy" for the Defense of Marriage Act. So far, Bachmann is the only candidate to sign on.

UPDATE: We asked the NAACP about the controversial pledge, and Bachmann's decision to sign it. "It is outrageously insensitive and without factual merit," said Hilary Shelton, senior vice president for advocacy and policy at the NAACP. "To say that the conditions African Americans are living under today are somehow worse than the conditions under slavery ignores the factual reality that they were bred to be sold ... It's certainly a misrepresentation of our nation's history and the horrors of slavery."

This didn't seem to crazy, until he said that the mother of his youngest was the son's wife. Talk about fucked up.

There was a brother who worked in one of the tool cribs. He was one of those who would not work, but when anyone called him on it, he screamed racism.

He got fired once. Basically for not doing his job. Continual reports of slacking off on the job.

He got re-hired because he was in the union and went crying to them.

He was a lazy sack of worthless shit.

He ended up being part of a lawsuit filed in about 1997 by a bunch of black employees claiming racism, they were passed over for promotion, etc.

The last day I worked there, I went to say goodbye to all the people that mattered most to me. The co-workers I got along with the most, and had the most fun with over the years I was there.

At least 75% of them were 'Americans of African Descent'. The white folks in that factory were truly uptight....part of it was the part of the country the factory was in.....part of it was they was "White Uptight and Outtasite".

Basically the one guy was the only idiot out of everyone I knew who was a minority there. He should have been fired and barred permanently from the premises.

Sweeping A problem under a the rug is not the answer. Another example i have in big ole Baton Rouge is, the crime rate. I can turn on the news at any given time and what do you know, another black has shot someone, rapped someone or broke into another home. Now some would say, wow your being racist and profiling blacks. Well i like to think the proof is always in the pudding. i did some research around the crime in and around the BR area. In the past 6 to 8 months there have been a lot of shootings and killings. there's been so many i couldn't count them all. The ones i did count were the ones committed by a white person. Out of the crimes committed in those months there was only 2. One happened to a old lady that was killed by a great grandson and friends and the other just happened at a local restaurant that was killing/suicide. All the rest, which is like one a day, was committed by a black.

The news reports only what kinda crime happened. Local authority does that as well. Nobody with some power and influence has the balls to stand up and say exactly what most of the law abiding citizens already know. Blacks, not all but most are thugs and punks that have no care for their fellow man or life in general. They prey on the weak and will not hesitate to shoot you for no reason at all.

Blacks and Mexicans are taking over and the white people are letting it happen even though out of the almost 400 million people in this country they are only 80 million between the two. We didn't have that many black people where I grew up but we had some. Mostly single moms who moved to Idaho to raise their kids in a better environment. One family was from Alabama originally and another one was from the Chicago area. One mom said she knew her sons had a good chance of ending up in prison if she raised them where they were living in Chicago so she threw a dart at a map and moved to where the dart landed. All her kids turned out ok one is still a good friend of mine. Basically hard working people who never were on welfare. John Becker, who visited the clinic with two hidden cameras, was told that he could be completely free of his homosexual urges.

“The truth is God, God as designed our eyes to be attracted to the woman’s, to the woman’s body, to be attracted to, you know, everything. You know, to be attracted to titties,” he added.
