* 45 singles packed with rarities, re-mixes and live versions across 173 tracks!
* Comes in a striking pink box featuring the band’s trademark tongue design.
* Overflowing with all-time classic hits, collectable B-sides and hidden gems.
* Over 80 tracks not currently available on official releases!
* Taken from the original British, US and European singles.
* Lovingly replicating the original 7”, 12” and CD singles in miniature picture sleeves and labels.
* Also houses a 32-page hardback book packed with memorabilia, period photos, essay by renowned journalist, broadcaster and Stones expert Paul Sexton.
* Also features an exclusive new interview with Bill Wyman, the band’s former bassist and on-going archivist.
* Limited numbered edition
* The set will also be available digitally

I'm hoping they re-release some of these CD singles individually, since there are a few things here that I don't have (at least in decent quality) but I really don't think I need to buy the rest of them yet again. I suppose it's a good thing that the "rarities" included here are available once again, but this still doesn't make up for the REAL box set that Mick told us they were working on back in 2001-02. Still say they should take the "Beatles Anthology" approach to that one, and roll out a three volume set (Volume 1 with Brian Jones, Volume 2 with Mick Taylor, and Volume 3 with Woody)

Everything’s Turning To Gold (Previously Unreleased)

How is a track that was released twice "previously unreleased" ?

b-side and a compiliation

I'm hard pressed to come up with many box sets that lived up to the hype. I thought the KISS set was good. Life and Crimes of Alice Cooper was a nice package. The original Bootleg series from Bob Dylan had a ton of good rare and unreleased stuff....BonFire had some nice rare Bon Scott material.

But for the most part I find that if you're a big fan you already have most of the stuff in these box sets. How many remixes of "Love is Strong" do I really need to hear?

Yeah, whomever wrote up that track listing screwed up there. Though it is true that the song hasn't been officially available since the CBS release of the Stones catalog, since neither Virgin or Universal included "Sucking In The Seventies" in their remasters.

My guess was that it wasn't released in England, but much about the Stones is confusing to me. Like why was In Another Land put out as a single, not that I'm knocking the experimentation they went through adding unique instruments during the Jones years, because it made for interesting recordings most of the time. Seems like most of the online comments are from everyone talking up the Taylor years as the best period, and who can blame them. I still can't believe Brussels never saw an official release.
And Brown Sugar with slide guitar took that whole tune up a notch.

And here's something new from the Stones. From a tribute album to their founding member Ian Stewart. Featuring the return of one Mr. William Perks Wyman on bass.......

I always said that when it came time for the Stones to do their final tour, that Bill and Mick Taylor would have to be back on board. Given Taylor's contributions to the Exile remaster last year, and Wyman's participation here, I'd say that's looking like more of a reality every day.

My understanding of the Brussels thing is that Allen Klein's greed (as usual) screwed the whole thing up. Because he still controlled the publishing on the band's entire 60's catalog and the Sticky Fingers album, he wanted a piece of any live album they released with any of those songs on it. And apparently the concept of two corporations sharing the release like they would later do for the 40 Licks compilation wasn't possible at the time.

(though ironically enough, the Faces managed to do exactly that with their live album around that same time, releasing the vinyl on Mercury records, where Rod Stewart's solo contract was, and the 8 track & cassette on Warner Brothers)

As far as the Brown Sugar w/Clapton thing goes, I imagine that was some sort of a licensing snafu because he played on it.

"Sucking..." was part of the Virgin remasters sometime in the middle of the last decade, as I recall walking into the local KMart and being flabbergasted by seeing it for sale in the racks.

Yeah, it looks like Virgin did release it in 2005, so I stand corrected. But it definitely wasn't in their original catalog re-rollout in 1994.

That always baffled me, as well. I'd always read that "In Another Land" was pretty much a Bill Wyman solo single, but somehow it wound up on Their Satanic Majesties Request. I'm pretty sure I recall the 45 even had Wyman's name on in, instead of the Rolling Stones. And wasn't the record originally going to be called Her Majesty's Satanic Request?

...similar to how the song "Caroline No" from the Beach Boys Pet Sounds album was released as a Brian Wilson solo single.

As for the recording of "In Another Land" itself, it wasn't entirely a solo effort, though arguably not a true Stones recording either. More like a hybrid of the Rolling Stones & The Small Faces actually. Here's the lineup on the song:

Lead Vocal and Bass: Bill Wyman
Drums: Charlie Watts
Harpsichord: Nicky Hopkins
Piano and Acoustic Guitar: Steve Marriott
Mellotron: Brian Jones or Bill Wyman
Organ: Ian Stewart
Background Vocals: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Steve Marriott & Ronnie Lane

This seems like a box set only a really, REALLY hardcore fan would want...I mean, most of the rarities focus on post-1985 releases, and the stuff that the band has put out in the last 25 years is hardly essential to anyone other than DIEHARD Stones fanatics.
