I thought the social security program was a trust where you paid into it and then could draw on the money you saved when you were 65. I would like to know what else the politicians are doing with our retirement money.

Tacoma?

FORD, any knowledge of this to confirm this is bullshit or not?

This is complete bullshit.

Housing projects like this in Washington State are funded by a mix of private and public funding. Some federal HUD money may or may not be involved. There is NO Social Security money involved whatsoever. The application process to get one of these projects off the ground is very detailed and takes a long time, and you don't always get your project funded on the first, second, or even third tries.

Trust me, I am VERY familiar with this process, and I know for a FACT that the Salishan development was among those which came into being this way.

The teabagging fucks who made this video are goddamned liars. And food stamp cards accepted at the casinos? Not a chance. They don't buy anything but food, and not even prepared food, so you couldn't buy ANYTHING with them at a casino.

I guess that video resulted in lots of pissed off calls and according to this article it's what Ford says it is. I know a guy from Seattle that owns a couple neat planes he shows at air shows. He's a slum lord. He owns thousands of subsidized units. I guess there's money in it but then the govenment is paying part or all of the rent.

By 2000, Salishan's revitalization was common knowledge. Although its reputation as an unsafe neighborhood continued, it had largely recovered. By the time, it was demolished, Salishan was a well organized neighborhood of families who were very fond of it. However, the housing and the infrastructure were worn out. In April 2001, the Tacoma Housing Authority received a $35 million HOPE VI grant to revitalize Salishan. A $225 million full redevelopment plan was created. The plan will demolish all of the housing and build a new mixed-income neighborhood of about 1,300 dwelling units, both single family homes for sale and apartments for rent. In addition, the community will have a brand new medical-dental clinic, an education, training and retail center with a public library, child care center, a grocery store and a credit union. All this will be on brand new infracture. New Salishan was built for walkers and children, with extensive green belts through and surrounding the neighborhood. The project has won national awards for its housing design, neighborhood design, affordability and environmental innovation.

Apparently welfare debit cards being used at gambling establishments is a problem.

Nothing surprises me anymore.

This all reminds me of something my dad told me years ago. He said it doesn't take much to keep the average American happy. As long as they have a job that they can buy a home, a car, beer, and have a little left over for some vacation or entertainment, they are happy. If you take those things away, people become dangerous.

The people who made that video are obviously struggling. If things were better for them, they wouldn't even give a ratt's ass about Shalishan. Basically they are angry because they want to be in those nice new homes themselves.

This is where the elites and politicians always screw up. They get so greedy they break the middle class and when the middle class gets pissed, that brews trouble. People really aren't that sophisticated but when you take the basics away and crush people's hope, they become like a cornered dog.

And just for the record, while the Salishan you see in this video is obviously a lot of new construction, the roots of the project go back to the 1940's. It was built as housing for shipyard and factory workers during World War II.

I read the Wikipedia on it. It said the crime was so bad in the 1950's there the school bus driver's refused to go into Shalishan without plain clothes policemen. My experience with Tacoma is it stunk from the paper mills there. It was known as the drug capitol of the northwest. I went to a Prince concert at the Tacoma Dome and the girl behind me puked and ruined the whole concert for me.

Seems the guy that created the video has a history of being a pathological liar.

Good find LT.

We get this shit all the time from the tabloid press here, a constant barrage of stories about immigrants being given houses and living in luxury.

When it's examined it almost always turns out to be complete bullshit and it ends up with a figure like in this case that 97% of the housing isn't to immigrants. The sad thing is very few people ever read the debunk and many build up a resentment and racist hatred which over the years. 590 000 views, how many of them ever find out they just saw a complete lie. Every so often someone flips like in Norway and that's all good since it sells newspapers too.

It's like anything else, if the story sounds incredible or crazy you should try and check it because it very often just isn't true.

It's a crucial strategy of the right to spread this shit otherwise they would never be able to get the people they need from the working classes to vote against their own economic self interest.

It makes you wonder if the press is just stirring the shit to make money or if the people who own these media sources have an agenda. When those in power have no real solutions they typically start wars as a distraction or find scape goats to blame the problems on. Sadly I think we didn't learn a damn thing from the world wars of the previous century. But then it was the aristocrats, bankers, and politicians that started those wars.
