A new book claims Adolf Hitler faked his death and escaped to Argentina with Eva Braun in 1945.

Grey Wolf: The Escape of Adolf by British authors Gerrard Williams and Simon Dunstan says Hitler and Braun had two daughters before Hitler died in 1962 at the age of 73.

"They refute the widely accepted view that the Fuhrer shot himself in his Berlin bunker on April 30, 1945, and Braun committed suicide by taking cyanide," Britain's The Daily Mail reported.

"Instead, they claim, there is 'overwhelming evidence' to suggest that the couple escaped at the end of the Second World War for a new life in a Nazi-controlled enclave in Fascist Argentina."

"The book also claims American intelligence officials were complicit in the escape, in return for access to war technology developed by the Nazis.

"It also says that skull fragments thought to be those of Hitler currently held by the Russians are actually that of a young woman under the age of 40. Hitler was 56 when he died."

Mr Williams, a historian and journalist, said he and Mr Dunstan did not want to re-write history.

"But the evidence we've discovered about the escape of Adolf Hitler is just too overwhelming to ignore," he said.

"There is no forensic evidence for his, or Eva Braun's deaths, and the stories from the eyewitnesses to their continued survival in Argentina are compelling."

Mr Williams and Mr Dunstan claim a body double took Hitler's place and an actress stood in for Braun on April 27, giving the couple the opportunity to escape.

But leading historian Guy Walters said the book's claims were "2000 per cent rubbish".

Mr Walters said claims that Hitler lived in South America until the 1960s were the "worst sort of junk history" that relied on "dubious secondary sources".

"The theory that Hitler survived rubbishes decades of research by proper historians and intelligence officers," he said.

"The two authors should be ashamed of themselves for peddling this kind of utter nonsense. It's simply unbelievable that publishers would give them the time of day.

"It's an absolute disgrace. There's no substance to it at all. It appeals to the deluded fantasies of conspiracy theorists and has no place whatsoever in historical research.

"There have been thousands of theories over the years that Hitler might have escaped but they are nothing more than parlour games.

"The evidence that Hitler was killed in simply overwhelming. For these authors to claim otherwise is simply staggering."
However, Mr Walters said the authors had correctly stated that the skull taken by the Russians was not Hitler's.

It's annoying how you get these articles these days in the tabloid press where they make a crazy claim in the title of their own piece before explaining why it's shit.

I suppose we should be thankful at least they do point out it's shit in the second half but the headline should be 'Idiots bring out stupid fake book about Hitler to try and make money from the huge gravy train of Nazi publishing'.

I used to be a summer river guide on the middle fork of the salmon river. I took Caroline Kennedy's party down the river one summer. I should have asked her about the faked death ploy but then that would have been rude and I don't think it would have gone over too well.

I have been in touch with the author of that book. He says he cannot get a publisher in the US interested in publishing the book. I replied that surely there would be ONE publisher at least who would publish it in English, but I never got any further reply from him.

Would not surprise me. There is no definitive proof that Hitler died in Berlin in April 1945.

They say the memory is the first thing to go, even when your life expectancy is well beyond that of mortals, so after 45,000 years, mine is really starting to fade. I'll be damned if I can remember exactly when Adolf arrived, but he's definitely been here a while now.

There actually is quite a bit of "proof" he died, and that furthermore, getting out of the bunker wasn't all that easy. Hitler also had severe afflictions such as Parkinson's and quite possibly a life-long bought with a sexually transmitted disease. What would even have been the point of fleeing?
