Confirmed: Beavis, Butt-head and Music Videos Returning to MTV

Instead of reviving the brainless cast of The Hills for another disappointing season, MTV has decided to go highbrow… by resurrecting Beavis and Butt-head. As obnoxious as the 90s duo was (and will no doubt continue to be), I think we can all agree that the network’s programming decision is a positive one. Because let’s face it: Beavis and Butt-head to The Hills is like comparing Masterpiece Theatre to…The Hills.

According to the New York Post:

The new series would keep Beavis and Butt-head in their perpetual high-school state, but it would be updated so that the pals — who obsessively watch music videos on a battered TV set — could lob their snarky comments at more current targets like Lady Gaga.

But MTV also has an ulterior motive for the boys’ re-introduction:

The return of Beavis and Butt-head will be a backdoor means for MTV to return to showing music videos — something the network was founded upon but abandoned in the last decade to make room for popular reality shows like Laguna Beach, The Hills and Jersey Shore.

While MTV has confirmed that the show’s creator, Mike Judge, will be creating the new episodes, the King of the Hill creator is not yet commenting on the project.

Now if only MTV could cancel The City and bring back Daria…

With the demise of CREEM magazine, Beavis and Butthead were virtually the only source of wise-assed but totally astute, right on the money rock criticism available. I can't wait for Beavis to eat too much candy and turn into Cornholio or watch the nitwits dig up Anderson's septic tank again, believing they'd struck oil. And Butthead's methods for stopping Beavis' nosebleed was one of the sickest cartoons in recorded history. :rockit2:

Judge really didnt make a lot of money with B&B and MTV wasnt ready to give him anymore. So he took his talents and sold them where he'd have more control AND more money coming his way thanks to his work.
I really like King Of The Hill and was really sad to see it go. Hopefully Judge sticks it hard to MTV for fucking him in the first place cutting him out of most of the money made on his hit.
Showing videos again? I wish they would turn MTV back into Music Television...ONLY. Make Mtv-Reality its own separate channel and get back into promoting music. Bands used to really go out of the way to make new music AND videos . Nowadyas bands dont do jack shit.
I do know one Maestro of music videos who's band hasn't been doing anything ,that could use a boost from making cool ass videos again.Ahem>

This is great news. B&B was one of the funniest shows in history, hands down. I video taped a run they put on MTV2 a year or so ago and snagged about 30 original episodes WITH the videos. It's a treasure trove. It was right around my 30th Bday and made me PAINFULLY nostalgic for the 90s and the great music of the decade. When you read into that sentence, it just tells you all you need to know about how terrible the music industry has become.
