I say "effort" because it's really not an album

Sounds to much like a bunch of Keith Richards solo album outtakes only with more horrid singing. Ron's songwriting is the same: some bitch woman somewhere breaking his heart or fucking him over financially. What else? Has cameos from Slash, Flea, Billy Gibbons, and Ivan Neville but even on Ron's limited pay-as-you-play budget none of of them can save this mess. Highlights 'Catch You' and 'Tell Me Something' the low lights: everything else.

Woody's best solo work was his first two albums, both of which were recorded in that mid 70's period where he was in the Faces and the Stones at the same time (and thus had plenty of help from both bands getting those records made.)

This one would have fit perfectly on "Black and Blue"

This record isn't all that bad. Have to give him credit in that the majority of the songs on this record are penned by him. It just sounds so hollow and dry in most areas.

His mid 90's album "Slide On This" was a damn good effort too.....

I Feel Like Playing is a fine album. Nothing wrong with it. More albums should be this good.

Eh, it might grow on me. What's interesting is that Slash doesn't sound like Slash on it.

You mean he is playing a Kazoo? As that is the only instrument he is organically good at.

More Wah Wah Pedal! No I mean this time on the Kazoo!

If Slash was playing guitar in my home....foster parents would be called in. Ain't no son o mineeeeaaain.

But just like any boy band player like Slash...enough guitar lessons over the years and personal trainers....they all "grow", and hope no one notices the glaring no talent aspect.

You're such a hater. I for one cannot fucking stand Nuns & Posers and their whole white trash and tattoo L.A. rock-riffage. But come on, this is Slash. Slash is like the best friend you never had. Why he is always available for late night talk shows such as when Conan calls him up, interviews in fashion rages and I'm sure he'll come to a children's birthday for FREE (and foot the bill for the clown and/or magician). Slash is the only millionaire rock I know of that still dresses liek a sack of shit (next to Cobain but he no longer counts). So give the man some credit even though he has none himself.

Gimme Some Neck could really use a remaster though, because the CD sounds horrible. One of those late 80's releases that sounds like they used a cassette for the mastering.

Odd thing about that video is that Ringo didn't actually play on the song (or anywhere else on that album). It's more or less a Stones performance, with Charlie actually playing the drums, Keef on guitar, and Mick singing backgrounds (Woody played the bass himself)

Ron Wood is a talented guy. He's an amazing artist. What held the guy back was the all too common substance abuse problems.

Gimme Some Neck was a good album, but it was unfortunate he chose to "promote" it with the spectacularly inconsistent and frequently awful New Barbarians.

I was at the Sundance Film Festival and Slash was in the same bar. He was confused about Utah drinking laws. He wanted rum and coke but the bar tender said he couldn't serve a mixed drink. I just asked what kind of rum he wanted and I went to the liquor store and came back with a bottle and I said in Utah you don't buy a drink you buy a drunk. He was happy. A real nice quiet guy actually. In Utah the bar tenders can't serve mixed drinks unless they are a private club but it's ok to bring your own booze to the bar. Sometimes you will see a liquor store in the hotel lobby across from the bar.

Aw come on, they weren't bad at all (except for Woody's live vocals, which were admittedly excruciating). Stanley Clarke was a great choice for bass player, even though he's usually a jazz guy.

Wasn't The New Barbarians basically a fund raiser to pay off Keith's lawyers when he was busted for heroin in Canada?

Trust me, they were ghastly. At least they were when I saw them in Atlanta. It could have been the Pope himself on bass, it didn't matter as the mix was so atrocious all you could hear were some hoarsely yelled vocals and two guitars that sounded like cats in a blender. Utterly putrid. And stupidly loud, too.

As for Stanley Clarke he confuses the Catholic crap outta of my semi-irrigated colon. Okay, not did I recently find out he was the one playing those brilliant bass lines of that Doterso album but that he can still kick the shit out of all these pussy self-professed hyped bass players with a Larry Ghram-ish funkified slap-pappy bass-in-your-face no prisoners taken 'Bad Asses'

But then for his next effort his goes all yuppie with this

Well, not exactly......

Woody wanted to put a band together to promote "Gimme Some Neck". He asked Keith to join the band, just as he did when he played his first solo shows back in 1974 (See "Mystify Me" video above)

Meanwhile, Keith's heroin trial took place in Toronto, and his "sentence" was to perform a benefit for the local blind school with a band of his choice. Keef ended up bringing two bands along, as the New Barbarians opened the show, and then the Stones played their only live gig of 1979.

It's all available on a bootleg called (appropriately enough) "Blind Date".

I've never heard it on cd, except for the copy I made from my vinyl. On vinyl it sounds just great!

I'm impressed. Not too many people especially people under 35 even know who Stanley Clark is. He kind of went off the radar when the 80's ended.
