It was HIS speech. He was given some latitude in what he said and how he played the scene by Ridley Scott.

He was so kickass in that film.

Sean Young was so fucking hot as well.

I recall that Anne Rice wanted him for the film, but he was a few years too old for the role when they finally got around to filming Interview W/The Vampire.

So when the filmmakers couldn't get Hauer they naturally did the logical thing, which was to sign up Tom Cruise and make Interview an homage to unrequited man-on-man gay vampire love,
