My very first Vinyl of my very own was Quiet Riot "Metal Health" in 1983. My band opened for them around 96ish and I was lucky enuff to get Frankie, Carlos, and Kevin to sign that same copy. (They had a fill in bass player so I am waiting for Rudy someday)

My mom was cool enough to buy me Kiss: Dressed to Kill when I was 5-6 yrs old. I knew nothing about Kiss but this was the height of their over-saturation of America through merchandising..1978-1979....I had an Ace Frehley doll too. I can remember wearing Kiss t-shirts to school in the early 80's and people making fun of me. Anyone remember what it was like to be a Kiss fan in the early 80's? My pops used to get pissed at my mom cuz he wanted me to listen to Zeppelin instead of Kiss. Luckily I listened to both. Dressed to Kill is still my favorite Kiss album. Thanks mom.

I still have all of my KISS vnyl from the 70's. In fact, I think I still have every LP I ever bought.

I actually went to this place while in Jamaica. I always wondered why they called it pressing vnyl. I used to think they cut the grooves into the disk. It's a pretty cool process to watch.

Saw a report on the local news last night. Yesterday was World Record Store Day.

Seems that in 2011, vinyl sales were up 34% over 2010 according to Soundscan. And that is just NEW vinyl.

I scored some more albums a couple of days ago, for a couple of bux each!

BTO - Not Fragile - My cousin bought this for me when it was new back in the 70s....BTOs metal album!!! \m/ \m/
Heart - Heart (still in the original shrink wrap) Yeah I know...their hair-metal album, lol, complete with crappy ballads, etc. but I like it....even though only 4 of the songs out of 10 were written by anyone in Heart.....
ZZ Top - ZZ Top's First Album (also in the original shrink wrap!)
ZZ Top - Fandango! (I have the remastered CD, but this album has no scratches, and hey...it's vinyl!)
Deep Purple - Burn - Always dug this album

Back in 1982 I gave my vinyl collection (about 50 albums) to a roommate as I owed him money for utility bills and had no cash.....so I am going to rebuild the collection....I can pretty much see an album and remember if it was in my collection.....some of them I won't bother.....like Deep Purple and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's "Concerto For Band And Group" from 1970......I don't need the vinyl album because it was originally a TV broadcast, and it has been officially released on DVD complete with a documentary on how the entire thing came about.
But for the most part....I am going to continue to seek out albums I used to have.

I wish I still had my original copies of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Yesterday & Today, and Hard Days Night....because they were albums my Mom bought new in the 60s....and I want them for sentimental reasons....

Ah well.

Vinyl rules!

Trust me brother (from personal experience), once you get married the only "something" you will be doing with your neighbor is sharing a beer or several and quietly discussing your mutual dissatisfaction with your marriages while cooking on the grill for your greedy, petulant and bottom-feeding in laws after a heavy day of yard work. Your guitar will remain in it's case and will mysteriously leave your bedroom, only to be unearthed sometime three years from now when your wife commands you to clean out the clutter in the garage, attic or basement. Upon finding it, you'll feel pretty much the same sense of discovery as the kid who found a guitar in a cave did on the first side of Rush's 2112.

Thank cloud daddy for housewives getting rid of the "clutter." I got a Fender SuperReverb and Kalamazoo amp in perfect condition for next to zero.

Back when I was in my early thirties, I had a neighbor of similar age who was also a musician. Apparently on a whim, he decided to leave his wife of seven years and run off with a very underage girl. I say on a whim as he left behind a rather extensive catalog of instruments and gear, which his scorned wife sold during a yard sale some three days later. The kicker being, she sold the stuff off for pennies, rather than dollars.

Even though this truly happened (I still have the acoustic I bought from her for 45 cents to prove it. Fuck it, I hardly knew the prick.), it reminded me of the urban legend about the guy reading the classified ads in the back of the (pre-internet) newspaper and discovering a brand new Cadillac on sale by it's owner for 20 bucks. Believing this to be a misprint, he called the number listed and was informed that yes, the new car was indeed for sale at that rate. So he goes to the lady's house, and promptly picks up the car for the aforementioned 20 dollars. The woman signs over the title, and as she does, he can not help his curiosity. He asks her why the car was being sold so cheaply, and she replies that her dentist husband had run off with his secretary, had called her, and had instructing her to sell the car and send him the money to live off of until he was settled.

I've heard the same tale ascribed to everything from golf clubs to a bass boat, yet having seen it take place myself in real life never quite prepared me for the joys of my own divorces a few years later.

Bitter? No longer at this point. Johnny Carson once said the reason divorces are so expensive is because they are worth it. This, along with the wisdom gained from the experience turns out to be the best things I've ever learned in life. That and not to engage in conversation with lunatics, both male and particularly female. Yeah I know, sometimes it's hard to grasp the depth of craziness, but if you sense a tingling sensation anywhere other than your groin, take that as an indicator.

Thx!Mesa is awsome!I was practicing playing with octaver mode on my multi fx.
It's tricky sometimes.
I bought an AKG membrane mic.I put the mic in front of the mesa boogie in this recording.I'm tweaking like crazy.
Trying to find a good smooth distortion sound.I find it very difficult.
Also bought a secondhand twelve string.Aria from Japan 30 years old just for 140 bucks.I'm loving it!
I'm trying to get the crunchy scratchy distortion out of my solo guitar sound. How do you do it?I see guys with racks of TC electrics and other stuff.
I don't know where to start..lol

My second album I ever got was BTO NOT FRAGILE, my pop brought home records all the time that he bought from A & B Sound on Seymour street in Vancouver on his way home from work, and I picked that one. I still love it. It rocks, and is nice and heavy. I like Roll On Down The Highway the best. They just released the LIVE IN JAPAN cd from 1977, with a new 40 anniversary edition hits collection, so I will get that one too.

My pop took me to the BTO concert at the Pacific Coliseum in town here back in 1976 because I liked them so much. I had a green glowstick and a BTO button from the concession stand. They played the song NOT FRAGILE , FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, and an extra long version of DONT GET YOURSELF IN TROUBLE, which included a special boogie jam called Slow Down Boogie. The opening band was a band called TROOPER, that Randy Bachman produced, and I liked them too, I guess I was only 8 years old at the time, but sort of still remember some of the details, although not as well as when my pop took me to see KISS on November 19, 1979, I remember that one well. My pop took pictures and recorded it with a tape recorder. I still have the tape and pictures. I can hear my pop telling the stoners to sit the fuck down so he can take the picture for me, as they were in the way as Gene was about to blow fire. I can hear my pops voice on the tape, L.O.L.

My first record was Beach Boys, Endless Summer, I also had the Sweet Blockbuster, at a young age, and used to play that stupid song " Little Willy " all the time. I still have my first KISS record too. My copy is the first batch of original pressings, and does NOT include the song, " KISSIN' TIME " on side two, as they added that one on after the album was already out. I Didn't even know about that until I got The Originals later, after Alive or Destroyer, in 1976. My first KISS record is very rare and valuable because of this, but not in mint condition. I inherited my pops record collection after he passed on, and it is a pretty big collection of about 800 records, Jazz, Classical, Blues, Pop and Rock. Lots of stuff, but I leave it all in the special plastic bags the way he liked, to keep them in good condition. He had all the Frank,Zappa, and there are at least 50 albums from Zappa alone, not to mention all the others.

It is not often I actually play the records, as I've got the cd's, but like having them for the covers and collection. I still pick up a few here and there once and a while just for the hell of it. I just made a cd of my RIOT albums, Fire Down Under, and Rock City, as I felt like listening to them more often for some reason. I like having the covers, and stuff you get inside of some of them.
