I've been reading this site practically every day since I joined 7 years ago, just never was much of a poster...lol
I would love to meet some of my fellow Roth Army Van Halen Fans!! Probably along with my son(got him lovin VH years ago!! We went to 3 shows back in 07/08!!)
his girlfriend, his best friend and HIS girlfriend and hopefully my daughter and son-in-law and my grandson if she lets him go!!!
He's seven and he knows who grampa's favorite band is!!

Good news bb.
I'm gonna let WARF or Diamond'sGirl plan Boston as I'm not familiar with the city. And now my housemate is coming with me to this one. I don't think we'll need a hotel as we'll probably drive home after.

I'm wondering if they are gonna add a 2nd Boston show seeing as they have a four day lapse between the 11th in Boston and the 15th in Montreal?

and......I TALKED MY DAUGHTER INTO LETTING MY GRANDSON GO!! WHAT A GREAT MEMORY WE'LL SHARE!! :) She's kinda ticked off because her first concert was her Aunt taking her to see the New Kids on the Block way back when she was eight...My grandson's only seven and WHAT A GREAT FIRST SHOW TO SEE!!!...lol

Sensible Shoes

he said it is club seating with some kind of pre-show buffet dinner. LOL! for some reason THAT cracks me up! I just imagine snacking on room temp bagel bites, listening to Kool and the Gang while taking shots out of my flask.

On the last tour, my youngest son (14 at the time) and I were in the 6th row at the University of Virginia show in '98.... Now he won't admit it to his friends, but he had a fantastic time.... I think EVH's solo rocked his world, and of course, that's a great thing....

Keeping the setlists slightly varied...can't wait to see them next month.

Seeing the youtube stuff, it seems as on these deeper cuts Dave literally has forgotten some of the fucking words...makes me wonder if these cuts weren't rehearsed with the full band as much as the standards in the set were...even so, I'm presuming the band does a setlist before each show...surely it's not beyond Dave's capacity to relearn lyrics to these tracks...unless he's just throwing in new lyrics because he can't relate to the older ones...

Fun

I think the reason is he is much more comfortable with his position this time around. The 2007/2008 walking on eggshell tour was a little different. But on most songs Dave is hitting it out of the park.

And I'd rather the band kick Daves ass than Sammys on stage. :-)

Well true. Dave gets his dick sucked either way. But I don't think he is sucking by any stretch of the imagination. Muffing a couple/few tunes out of a set list of 20 is not bad at all. Especially when they are tunes that haven't been played live since Reagan was in office (and maybe not even then). These are some deep cuts that Dave never even played on his VH tribute band tours. So I am letting out a lot of slack on the rope to him.

LOL. WTF seems to be the consensus all around. Who woulda thought ever they would play that? Some seriously long odds.

Makes me wonder though....

Are they pulling out all the deep cuts so they play everything in the catalog because they know this is the final tour and they want every song to be recorded live just once? If they bust out Sinners Swing & Dirty Movies I'm gonna really start worrying.

Wow - great vids all around (although the cinematography on some of them leave a little something to be desired). I need to see 'Hang 'Em High' and I need to see it NOW! The band is definitely grooving - they are locked in TIGHT! And Dave really seems to loosening up and demonstrating nightly that his place in the universe is leading the greatest American rock band of all time. The '07/'08 tour he seemed very scripted, from his jumps right down to when he'd smile, but he really seems to be channeling that mojo that made him so damn cool in their first go-round. The 'Panama' vid is a great example - effortlessly cool.

I don't think this is the last world tour at all, not by a long shot.

To me, this seems like a band that has a true appreciation for what made Van HALEN special and rare and they are a rejuvenated band. I think the new album alone says that, but the fact that they have been switching up the set list and pulling out gems as the tour goes forward is also an indication of this as well.

They are giving the fans what they want, and they are having a blast doing it as well.

I can see Wolf being like, "guys, this song kicks ass we have to do it, and why not this one, and this one...?" and so on......they are playing so well that it's not a big deal to pull out and dust off the old material that hasn't seen the light of day in a long time........

Van Halen is in love with being Van Halen. This is a wonderful thing.

These guys are famous for hating each other. But — at least on stage last night at a sold-out TD Garden — there was love. Love for their classic catalog, love for their fans, love for each other.

The show had flaws. The 20-year-old Wolfie Van Halen (Eddie’s son) can’t replicate booted bassist Michael Anthony’s harmonies. David Lee Roth’s voice is just hanging on. “(Oh) Pretty Woman” fell out of tune and out of time a few times. But these are piddly missteps.

Van Halen in love with its work is twice as good as just about any band.

Diamond Dave and Eddie are conduits to pure rock ’n’ roll ecstasy. In minor moments — the mysterious misty-mountain bridge of “Romeo Delight,” Roth’s acoustic guitar opening to “Ice Cream Man,” the divine chorus of “Women in Love” — they reek of talent and good times.

When they really heat up, its an orgy of fury and joy.

After the rumble of a hundred Harleys revving up that is Alex Van Halen’s opening drums on “Hot For Teacher,” Dave said: “Eddie, take them to school.” Then (probably, maybe) the world’s greatest living guitarist did, with lightning-fast hammer-ons and tremolo dive-bombs and a tornado of tapping. It was everything that makes Van Halen amazing in a 30-second burst: Eddie’s guitar and Dave’s wonderful, sexy, goofball mouth.

While Dave has lost some of his high range and high kicks, Ed’s still on fire. Dozens of uber-talented, supremely boring guitarists fall flat trying to sell 10 minutes of solo guitar. But watching Eddie blend “Eruption,” Cathedral,” the opening of “Mean Streets” and plenty of extemporaneous melodies is like watching Michelangelo paint at a thousand beats per minute.

Who knows how long the love will continue, but while it does, see this band. There is still nothing like a Van Halen show.

Kool and the Gang, the oddest/most fitting opener ever, warmed up the crowd with lots of “Oh, this is them” songs. “Ladies’ Night,” “Get Down on It,” “Jungle Boogie” and more were all done with the requisite punchy horns and ’70s soul swagger.

Fantastic night. Just got to work. Head still ringing.. Couldnt get to Harp, got stuck at Fours for din din. Got there at 445, they didnt seat us till 6. Crazy busy and party of 8 I guess was tough to seat, and they dont do reservations... Grrrrr.. Anyway, got there for the last 4 Kool tunes. I wasnt interested, I scanned the joint for merchandise. They didnt have any of those football jerseys in xxl in the whole place.. I tried the xl but it runs real small, try online I guess.. Got the tan t, the blue t, and the tattoo 1. The big black sweatshirt runs small too, woulda snatched it otherwise...... THE SHOW......... WAS.........KILLER.......... I am not being biased, it was the best show I have ever seen them do... I was in sec 13 row 17 seat 1.. As I am writing this another buddy of mine just texted me saying "that was a killer show".. He is a rage against the machine fan... He went with a couple of guys I dont know. Anyway, I mentioned up in here b4 that I was going with 7 other guys, all VH fans for life minus 2. One of those guys is my brother in law 45 years old and loves Aerosmith and the other guy is an older guy 57 or 58 years old.. Both were genuinely impressed, BIG TIME... Of my crew, one guy is a critical type guy, (you always have one of them, ya know) and he said " its about time". He has been to at least 8 VH shows and 10 solo Dave shows.. He said it was the best he had been to. Everyone else also agreed, THE BEST SHOW THEY HAVE EVER SEEN. They would not say that unless they believed it cuz they know how obsessed with Dave I am.... EDDIE RIPPED, he is not human.. Wolfie is so much a better bassist than Mike, and his backing vox were awesome as were Eddies. Alex brought the thunder as per usual.. DAVE, well, lets just say phenomenal.. Voice on point, kicks, spins, dance moves, grin, everything........ The only song that Dave had trouble with was China Town, but it was still ok, not great but ok... That was it, everyting else was MONEY... Whoever complained about DTNA, are fing crazy, HE NAILED IT... At two different points he said that this is one of our better shows we had done, and he was right.. The interaction with Dave and Eddie was great. They are getting along REAL REAL WELL. Listening to the radio station on the limo ride home, the DJ was playing all the songs that the band played live durring the show, callers were callin in and giving their thoughts, all good. Anyway the DJ said She had not recieved one negative call about the show..... AMEN....... :thumb::rockit2:

Is that a lyric cheat sheet by the kick drum? That was great, but Dave needs to do his homework.

WTF did you say?

Elvis said IF Dave sucked, that the fanboys would still be sucking his dick & ignoring it. His basic complaint was how with some of us Dave can do no wrong. Which is lame. A true fan should be able to criticize Dave yet still love him to death. Criticism is ok. It's like the bluegrass phase how some people still acted like it was 1981 & Dave was on fire and they refused to see anything bad ever.

But I think those types are pretty few here. There were a lot of complaints about the headset, the overalls, his weird high pitched cat wail he was using a lot back in the early 2000's (and still rears it's ugly head now & then) hell...how many hair threads have there been?

But overall, I think when we see Dave do something we dislike that we say so. But having so much respect & love for the guy for all the enjoyment he has given us, we can overlook the small stuff. Daves earned that big time.

Hmm...looking at the quote text trying to figure out how you do that. Make a link into a word like 'here'. Lemme try with a link to the Dave Welcome Back MTV video.....

Elvis likes to point out the obvious. It's really lazy and gets old quick. He'll also be the first to point out that he's been listening to this band for a while, which is extremely rare around here at the Roth Army, and for that I thank him.

Yeah, well, I am already fucking sick of Elvis' tired act. He should just go hang at the Links. At this point, he'd fit in better there, than he is fitting in here.

The one thing Dave did that I found to be unforgivable was to tour with Hagar.
That was a bullshit move. Everyone who went to one of those shows can claim "I left during Hagar's set" "I just wanted to see Dave kick Hagar's ass" but in reality, you put money in Hagar's pocket... unacceptable! (unless you jumped the fence to get it)

Nah. He's just playing Devils advocate & stirring shit up. It's all good. Plus it's fun to say "shut up Elvis".

We also put money in Dave's pocket, as well as James, Ray and Brian's pockets.

My wife (RIP) was fucking pissed at me during the Detroit show. First I see Sammy sitting at a picnic table with her backstage, and then she goes out to watch his set, and I told her I would join her in a few. I never made it out there! Ha ha! She was not happy with me at that show!

A lot of entertainers actually do this onstage ---- Axl Rose was infamous for singing off a teleprompter on the "Use Your Illusion Tour".

Dave can read off a cheat sheet anytime he wants as long as we keep getting tasty deep cuts ---- I'll fucking jizz if I hear "Drop Dead Legs" or "Sinner's Swing" performed live on this tour

Don't get me wrong, Dave could sing the lyrics to the French National Anthem over Hang'em High, but not with his back to the crowd reading off the floor. He's ions better than that. I thought he sounded great.

First Time I saw Hagar was 1978 when he opened for Boston. I thought the name of the band was San Diego. So that shouldn't count. Next was the Can't Drive 55 show which was kind of good, actually. Next was the Tampa Monsters show in '88 and that should count against me because I did stay for VH after the Scorps were done. But I did leave the forum after Dave's set in '02 (along with a few hundred others). And for that I should get the '88 mistake erased.

Haven't posted in years, but just wanted to weigh in. The band was insane last night! It had the energy of a Heavy Weight title fight!!! Saw them at Mohegan Sun with Dave's PA Rental. Both shows were stellar, but the Boston crowd was so much more interactive. I was right by the soundboard. Everyone in my section stood for the whole show. Shrieked like a little girl when they played Hang 'Em High! Almost leaped into my buddies arms like Scooby Doo! Tried to get video but i couldn't even work my phone in the excitement..

Dave had some good banter too. He stopped the band to tell a story about his father's Residency at MGH. He said they would park across the street from the Jail and what he thought were women would yell stuff like "Hey Hot Stuff" (in mock drag voice) out of the windows.. Eddie was visibly embarrassed. You could tell he didn't know where Dave was going with it...

I found this version of Hang Em High today. Nice video and sound. Dave is rocking the cheat sheet and hesitated once in the solo but who cares. Made it from start to finish and melted faces in the process. First time in decades and will only get better.

I had to use a cheat sheet this past weekend. Stuffed nicely under the floor tom....just in case. A teleprompter would be horrible.

Maybe on the way he could pop in a CD and hit repeat and listen 5 times. It might jog his memory. hopefully he will get it down. It is still AWESOME TO SEE!!:laser:

As far as cheat sheets go all bands have them! If you're close enough to the stage you can see them by the mic stands.
And in some cases lyrics are fed threw their ear pieces.
