AP source: ABC interviewed Gingrich ex-wife, likely to air segment a night before SC primary

By Associated Press, Updated: Wednesday, January 18, 5:10 PM

NEW YORK — An ABC News executive tells The Associated Press that the network has interviewed Newt Gingrich’s second wife and is likely to air the segment Friday on “Nightline.”

That’s the day before the South Carolina primary, where the Republican presidential candidate is trying to topple GOP front-runner Mitt Romney.

The ABC News executive did not indicate what the ex-wife, Marianne, said in the interview and spoke on the condition of anonymity because the plans for airing the interview were tentative.

The ex-wife has said Gingrich proposed to her before the divorce from his first wife was final in 1981. Her marriage to Gingrich ended in divorce in 2000. Gingrich admitted he’d already taken up with Callista Bisek, his third wife.

Gingrich has said he has no relationship with his second wife.

I would say all of this is totally irrelevant if it wasn't for the breathtaking hypocrisy with Clinton.

One would hope so. But Sheldon Adelson has a lot of money to waste. And if he get's his fellow Likud Zionists and their "Christian" Zionist friends to help him out, that will be a lot of money.

Apparently they're convinced that Newt is more likely to bomb Iran on his first day of office than either the dog abuser or the dogfucker. And they KNOW Ron Paul ain't gonna help them start World War III.

Yep. Think he owns the Sands too, if that's still around. (Haven't been to Vegas since 1999, so I haven't been keeping track of what casinos are still there)

You forget the next primary is being held in a state that thinks The Civil War should be re fought.

:gulp:

And Santorum is picking up more Evangwackos votes away from Newt.

He pulled all of the comps at the Venetian, LV (formally the Sands I think) because he is investing so heavily in Macau.

Probably not very relevant to your conversation, but his name caught my eye.

Never thought the fundagelicals would vote for a Catholic. Except when the other choices are a Mormon, or a Protestant who doesn't want to start World War III.

And if they have to vote for a Catholic, they want the guy who actually means it, and who really hates queers, and not the guy who recently converted, and who has a vagitarian sister. :eatit:

I find it weird the way people who have been successful in business put huge amounts of money into no hope campaigns.

It's inconceivable that Newt will end up president, impossible.

I guess it's like those super rich people that buy sporting teams which will never make money for millions as a toy.

As a left leaning libertarian I would support half of what he says. Personally most of my concern about US politics is foreign and science policies so I am happy enough if you all want to vote for him.

The problem with libertarianism in the US is that it unravels the more you look at it domestically. No public education or healthcare? The US is going to try and compete with the emerging economic superpowers with a largely uneducated workforce? Also crime would go through the fucking roof, it would be like living in Central America so now that I have kids and stuff I probably wouldn't visit any more which would be a shame.

It's also important to realise what can happen when you shrink government quickly. Ireland has been trying it for the last couple of years and they have made massive government spending cuts. The problem is that all that government spending was providing employment in the public and private sector so when you cut it unemployment goes up, welfare costs go up and tax income goes down.

You get into a spiral of misery you can't get out of.

I agree with you on that last part. But as far as education and healthcare, Paul wants these things (as well as the war on drugs) out of the hands of the federal government bureaucracy and let the individual states handle these matters individually...

Exclusive: Gingrich Lacks Moral Character to Be President, Ex-Wife Says
ABC NewsBy BRIAN ROSS and RHONDA SCHWARTZ | ABC News –

Video highlight @: http://news.yahoo.com/video/us-15749625/27928796

Newt Gingrich lacks the moral character to serve as President, his second ex-wife Marianne told ABC News, saying his campaign positions on the sanctity of marriage and the importance of family values do not square with what she saw during their 18 years of marriage.

In her first television interview since the 1999 divorce, to be broadcast tonight on Nightline, Marianne Gingrich, a self-described conservative Republican, said she is coming forward now so voters can know what she knows about Gingrich.

In her most provocative comments, the ex-Mrs. Gingrich said Newt sought an "open marriage" arrangement so he could have a mistress and a wife.

She said when Gingrich admitted to a six-year affair with a Congressional aide, he asked her if she would share him with the other woman, Callista, who is now married to Gingrich.

"And I just stared at him and he said, 'Callista doesn't care what I do,'" Marianne Gingrich told ABC News. "He wanted an open marriage and I refused."

Marianne described her "shock" at Gingrich's behavior, including how she says she learned he conducted his affair with Callista "in my bedroom in our apartment in Washington."

"He always called me at night," she recalled, "and always ended with 'I love you.' Well, she was listening."

All this happened, she said, during the same time Gingrich condemned President Bill Clinton for his lack of moral leadership.

She said Newt moved for the divorce just months after she had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, with her then-husband present.

"He also was advised by the doctor when I was sitting there that I was not to be under stress. He knew," she said.

Gingrich divorced his first wife, Jackie, as she was being treated for cancer. His relationship with Marianne began while he was still married to Jackie but in divorce proceedings, Marianne said.

There was no immediate comment from Gingrich on his ex-wife's allegations. Gingrich has said during the campaign he has "no relationship" with Marianne.

While she had been quoted earlier as saying she could end his career, Marianne Gingrich defended Newt's ethics while he served in Congress and came under several ethics investigations.

"At the time, I believed him to be ethical," she said in the interview.

The former Mrs. Gingrich says Newt began to plan a run for President at the time of the divorce and told her that Callista "was going to help him become President."

In a statement to ABC News provided by the campaign, Gingrich's two daughters from his first marriage said, "The failure of a marriage is a terrible and emotional experience for everyone involved."

The daughters, Kathy Lubbers and Jackie Cushman said they would not say anything negative about Marianne and said their father "regrets any pain he may have caused in the past to people he loves."

Marianne Gingrich said Newt has never expressed any such regrets or apologized to her.

How would the Far Right like a First lady who knowingly had an affair with a married man? How does that reflect on her being a "Catholic"?

Here comes Santorum to the rescue! :lmao:

Never mind the serial adultery. The most obvious evidence that Newt has no moral character is that he dumped the first wife when she was in the hospital fighting cancer, and the second wife right after she was diagnosed with MS.

I hope Calista the lizard queen realizes that the minute she has any serious illness, she's gone too.

It's amazing that with all the Republican whining about "family values", the fact remains that the only US President to date who had been divorced was Repuke Messiah and Family Values Poster Boy, Ronald Wilson Reagan.

Can someone explain how this is "news" and not a clearly biased hit-piece?

I'm not defending Newt. Never been a fan. But this type of 'reporting' (I hate to call it that) has just really gotten so blatant in it's bias. They don't even hide it anymore. The timing on this is so obvious it couldn't even be considered questionable. I wonder if the ABC interviewer will be wearing a 2012 Obama Hope/Change t-shirt.

Americans really deserve a better source for unbiased objective journalism on all sides. It really is disgusting.
