Crazy, the St.Louis show is almost 4 years to the day from the last one.. I believe it was April 26, 2008! I was there...

You Bet ! I was at that last show as well , not to mention the fact that I was completely

P-O'd about the not one , but TWO cancellations leading up to the actual show .

Sure was worth the wait though . After 24 years , what was another 6 months , right ?!?

Tix go on sale on my 49th. B-D - Saturday , February the 4th . Pretty damn cool present to myself .

This will be my 6th. go-round with the classic and only Van Halen !

YESSSS!!!!! Got my 4 tix shortly after they went on sale 10:00 a.m. today . I was the 3rd. humanoid in line and I was gonna pop for the $ 77.00 tix . By the time the second person was done , the $ 77.00 tix were GONE ! So , my only option was 4 of the $47.00 tickets . SCORE !!!
Seriously sucks that they just don't flat out tell you about the additional $12.85 per ticket up front . What kinda SHIT is that ?!? When I was walking away with tickets firmly in hand , a guy still in line about 6 people back offered me $200.00 cash on top of what I just paid for my 4 tickets .
I'm sitting way up in section 309 of the Mezzanine Level but that's O-Kay by me ! Happy Birthday to myself.........

Can't wait for Diamond Diva to howl about the A.C. on Sunday Night . The Van Halen concert
is gonna be sandwiched between NHL playoff games at Scottrade Center on Saturday night
and Monday night and you know the powers that be are gonna try to keep the place as cool
as possible . Counting down the days.........

Well, get out there and enjoy! Come to think of it, I'm not really sure if they even did DDL at that show in '84. Sadly '08 was the first VH show I went to "totally coherent". Whatever happens, I'm sure you're right about Dave bitching about the temp all night. But we all know a pissed off DLR is a really entertaining DLR. ROCK!

That's what I've thought...but I never saw them on the 1984 tour and can only count on what a few publications and the friends I have who did have told me. I have a pretty good knowledge of Van Halen history and that's always been the way I remember...let me bust out the VH Encyclopedia and see. I am new on here and dont wanna start an argument with Roth Army vet in my first week...I got more respect for the people who have put in their time before than to do that..unless the get real disrespectful. But, I know for fucking sure the other songs I threw out ain't never had their bright red cherries popped!!!

Every other tour this band has ever done....with all three singers...when it came to the set on the tour in support of an all new studio record...we always got at least six new tunes. So why not this tour??? What gives here?? They aren't playin long enough to run into curfew issues and not once on this entire tour have they played shows on back to back nights in different cities, so that ain' it. They aren't playin over two and half hours(fuck I wish)...so it ain't fatigue...I wouldn't think...could be wrong....they wanna cram as many old classic as possible and I thank God for the deep album cuts. Total perfection would be five more songs....2 from ADKOT....2 more deep album cuts...and one more classic or yeah that's right...ME WISE MAGIC!!!

Plus, there ain't any fans coming to hear those songs....anybody who's anybody know's those ain't part of the set and are "off to college"!!!!!!!!!! It's a big market for Hagar, but it's a big VH market as well. They did really well back in 2008, the Cherone tour pulled in 13,457 to the amphitheater (lawn seats were 10 bucks...or buy one get one free I think..can't remember..we sat down front Eddie's side..wife was 8 months pregnant with our first boy) and they sold out two nights at the Checkerdome on the 1984 tour. They always did MASSIVE business with your "public enemy #1" from 86 thru 95 and played two shows in 2004...but the second night wasn't anywhere close to a sellout. The greatest legend in STL history was when David Lee Roth opened for Bad Company in 2001 at the same buliding they are playing tomorrow night...during the post solo breakdown in AIN'T TALKIN BOUT LOVE Dave asked the crowd to "look down....way down...all the way to the very bottom...Who is that down at the bottom??? Is that SAMMY HAGAR????" The fucking crowd went nuts, boring and cat calling, middle fingers and "fuck you's"...but Dave continued to slay their ass..he used the 'ole Jack Daniels as my cock routine and when he ended with JUMP he got a standing ovation. Not many can come back from that kind of negative reaction..so muthafuckin quickly!!!! I am not from this area..my wife is..I moved here in 1996...I am from the Indianpolis area....and everytime VAN HALEN played Indy and Ft. Wayne (DLR solo for that matter) it was sold out. St. Louis' rock station KSHE 95 plays Van Halen every hour...and as of late more Roth than Hagar....but here we get a SHITPOT full of Hagar era VH on KSHE. They played ADKOT in it's entirety the day it came out and for weeks afterward would bust choice cuts from the album THROUGHOUT the day (beat's workin, trouble with never, outta space, blood and fire and FROSTY!!!!). So this town is BOTH.....loves all VH...a general rock n roll town. Will be plenty of VH shirts at the Chickenfoot concert next month....anybody with ROTH ARMY shirts gonna sit in the front row????? Just to fuck with Mike and Sam?? You can pay to see Black Stone Cherry....

Well at least at one time it was a lucrative market...he was in the final four of KSHE's March Bandness tournement that the fans vote on....and his songs get played on the radio here everyday....that mean atomic bombs are on the way??? Somebody ask Green Manalishi...he will tell ya...

Just talked to Favazz...the Van Halen show has sold a tad under 10,000 tickets for tomorrow's show...which I am not sure is a 3/4 arena or what??? Not sure what the capacity is for a show....hope to Christ it isn't around 18,000. What the fuck is wrong with this town??? They sellout The Black Keys (granted is was a smaller arena for the college basketball team..not the NHL coliseum/arena VH will be DESTROYING when ole GODZILLA wakes up around 8:50PM, butthey can't push this show toward a sellout. The 2008 show was a lot fucking closer. Why didn't they just play the St Charles Family Arena??? That places is loud as fuck and would have been a sellout. Wonder if there are any front row seats left??? Why the hell is the barrier so far from the stage....makes front row kinda lose it's vibe.

Sad but true , it's a maximum Sammy Fagar town . I WAS a Sammy fan in the '70's ( Montrose was the shit ) and early '80's when he made music that mattered . I'd be a liar if I said otherwise . Here's the rub . Unlike a lot of those early Sammy fans , I absolutely hated anything and everything he ever recorded with Van Halen with complete vile contempt . Still do , always will .
That being said , classic =VH= has always done well here as well . Heavy and daily radio airplay from day one and a solid fan base . I can attest to the fact that at those classic Van Halen shows , they were treated and greeted like conquering heroes .
If low attendance is indeed true , you wouldn't know it from the day they went on sale . The economy here does suck badly is the only legit answer . It doesn't matter to me . My group of four is gonna be there and cheering wether its 10 ,000 or all 19,000 plus .

" Music critic " Kevin C. Johnson has always had an agenda . He barely acknowledges anything that even resembles rock music . He could care less about any accuracies . However , he treats literally any and every rap and hip - hop act likes it's the second coming of Christ himself . Those acts will get front page coverage and maximum press . Trust me , he treats rock music like an afterthought if he pays it any attention at all . Sad .

I just looked on Ticketmaster and skimming over their interactive seat map, yeah it looks like there are a good 3,000 tickets left for this show if not more. Around 300 are floor seats, about 100 of those within the first 20 rows. Whatever, all that matters is whether or not YOU enjoy it and not whether or not there are enough true classic Van Halen fans in the St. Louis area to fill an arena. Especially if it's a known Hagar town as you guys say it is.

NOT AT ALL.....CHICKENFOOT plays here in a month and they are playing THE FOX theater...have to ask Manalishi what the capacity is there...but if he so fucking bulletproof why not take his band to one of the THREE ARENAS in the St Louis area??? If Chickenfoot is such a commerical powerhouse and STL is still his glory hole to fuck...can't he even sell out tiny Chaifatiz Arena??? Last time he came thru as a solo artist in 2007 he played THE FOX theater....it was funny that he doesn't even try to play one of the smaller arenas or hit one of the two amphitheaters here (the Veterans Amphitheater at Jefferson Barr. is only 6500 capacity...afraid of that??? Ain't nobody ever played 4 nights in STL....

If I remember correctly , the Fabulous Fox Theatre holds about 4,500 . Sammy's current abomination plays there on Wednesday Night , May 23rd.
No one has ever done a 4 or 5 night stand here . So , not only is Sammy a braggart but he's a liar as well .
Van Hagar played here 3 nights in July of '86 . Sammy himself did 2 nights in the summer of '84 , but , so did classic Van Halen .
RUSH would be the attendance champion with 3 nights in 1980 , 2 nights in 1981 and again in '82 .

I dunno but the fact is the economy is bad EVERYWHERE and VH is still playing to near sellout venues in just about every city so far.

Yet St. Louis still has 3,000+ seats the day of the show ---- 300 open floor seats ???

You have to attribute that to Spammy Town effect ---- there is no other logical explanation?

I guess VH can't win 'em all ---- just makes me sad that a city still has the hots for a fat lying cuntbag who thinks flabby belly + capri pants + sandals is the image of rock 'n roll.

Logic..I dunno....my YouTube friend Hunkola says "We ain't all bad..."....If Hagar was so bulletproof why does Classic VH sell more tickets than he does in a town that is suppose to be his??? Proves people love VH more and that he can't even sellout the FOX...if he is so popular here at least do TWO NIGHTS at THE FOX..(he can't even play ONE of the ARENAS in town????) and that would S T I L L be less tickets than VH tonight. So I know you can't BUY a job around here...and maybe that's it...cause in 2008 it was to the rafters!!!! Sammy always talked about STL, Dallas, Pittsburgh and Frisco being his towns 15 years ago....where's the love today??? A buddy over at VH Links said Hagar was wearing a Jack Lambert jersey at The MONSTERS show after Eddie's solo in Pittsburgh in 1988 that someone threw on stage...that picture KID threw up reminds me of it....

When was Pittsburgh ever a Spammy town ???

I grew up in the Steel City and Spamborita McPussy is everything we revile in a rock star ---- wimpy and fat, exploits other people's talent to make his money, foists lies, etc. Sammy is TOTAL SCUMBAG in our steely eyes.

Pittsburgh ethos is reflected quite well in Roth Van Halen ---- they came up from nothing and became successful on talent and lots of hard work. They go out on stage and fucking slay and don't talk a lot of shit. That's the Pittsburgh Code. Just look at how the champion Steelers play ball ---- lots of the same gritty, ground-and-pound work ethic that made CVH so popular to the masses.

Pittsburgh says "FUCK YOU" to the Chicken Cunt ---- he's living in his own spoiled delusional world made possible by Roth and EVH's hard work and talent. He's an ingrate fuckface who pisses on the people who made him rich.

Talked to a couple of DJ's from KSHE about playing classic VH A to Z today on the radio.....thought that would have been a good idea with the band in town. I remember Q95 in Indianapolis did before a show and it was like Van Halen took over the station. I know Favazz somewhat (FB...Real Rock Resto...24 Hour in Arnold...calling the station) and he thought it was a rad idea....play every Roth era Van Halen song in alphabetcal -includeding tunes from ADKOT..right up until showtime!!!! They always use to play back the entire set list right after the show ended...which was rad...something to listen to on the ride to the local greasy spoon!! Gotta ask them fuckers if they plan to do it today like U-Man...Bowcott..Lern...and Favazz all said would be a kick ass idea. Sick of hearing RUSH...they are great musicians and have some epic albums (CARESS..HEMIS..FAIRWELL TO...SIGNALS...)BUT give them a rest. FOCUS TODAY SHOULD BE THE ONE AND ONLY MIGHTY VAN FUCKIN HALEN!!!!!!!!!!! All who debate that classic VH should be pumped out of the speakers of every radio in the city today....kindly get fucked. Wanna hear UNCHAINED played at Busch stadium at maximum volume until all chant "EDDIE!!! EDDIE!!!" and then scream..."one break...coming the fuck up"!!!!!!!!!! Wonder if we will get any of those street preachers at our gig. They are likely to get beaten to pulp like a Blackhawks fans wearing a Cubs hat while reciting the words to a Courtney Love song.

Completely agree, the Burgh is anything BUT a Bette town....

2009 ChickenPussy show at the Riverplex Amphitheater in Pittsburgh was cancelled due to low ticket sales ---- this venue is a shitty little outdoor stage next to a kiddie water-park!

Steel City is most definitely NOT a Spamborita town ---- and after all the lies he's spewed in the last year about VH ---- his health may be at risk if he shows his face around here!

It was pretty good. I haven't seen them since seeing the real VH this time around. I think I'm a little spoiled now - took a little more beer to get me into it. The lead singer is good, but at times I think he believes he is Dave (or at least he believes he's as hot as Dave, which he most definitely is not!). They do a pretty cool set - including Full Bug, Women In Love, Tattoo, She's The Woman, and all of the standards. One major issue, which I kinda expected cause I've seen these guys a number of times....the bass player is a Hagar fan. So they played 2 spammy songs (don't know which ones - don't really care), which the bass player sang as well (lead singer went for a costume change at these times). In the past when this happened, I embarrassed my hubby by becoming a crazy angry drunk. Promised him I'd handle it better, which I did this time and last. I simply walked off the dance floor and got myself a beer, took a bathroom break, and I was ok. I wore my RothArmy shirt so I'm sure everyone understood! Had fun though. This morning, however, waking up to 3 little boys at 6:15, much less fun. Still hurting a bit!

I think it's pretty safe to assume it'll be the typical structure, really there are only a four songs that are tossups. 4th song is either Romeo or Full Bug, and 18th song is either Girl Gone Bad or Outta Love Again with a remote possibility of Hang 'em High. Only other songs possibly in play are something instead of Hear About It Later at #9 and The Trouble With Never at #13, but other than the very beginning of the tour and a run of four shows from March 26 - April 1st, those two have been more or less fixtures. If there's any chance of getting a deep cut that hasn't been played yet, it'll be in that #18 slot. According to the guy I talked to in Reading, who believe me is VERY close to the band (has a tour pass), LUTS was actually on the official setlist in that #18 slot in Reading but Dave nixed it an hour before the show.

Believe me I hope they do. I rank it as my third favorite VH song behind Unchained and Romeo.

Luckily my fourth and fifth favorite VH songs have been unexpectedly played this tour, Girl Gone Bad and Hear About It Later respectively. And Women in Love... is in my top 10.

If they do LUTS and Secrets (which if you saw that video on the VHND last week, it looks like they rehearsed it or at least thought about it) that would be divine.

And that would be awesome if they whipped out "As Is" or "HBSD." I think "Trouble" is one of the weaker songs on the album, not that it's bad but it doesn't excite me the way a lot of the other songs do.

Again, this is how DLR has always been. These people would have complained 30+ years ago. For example on the 1979 tour DLR always cut out the lyrics to the section of "Light Up the Sky" between the second verse and the guitar solo. I really don't understand how at this point so many people are going to a Van Halen concert and think this is something new. I guess there's still a large percentage of the crowds that ONLY know the studio versions of the songs (and probably only the hits, they skip over songs like "Hear About It Later").

All of us on here know that DLR just goes with the flow and the vibe of the concert. What he decides to do up there, how he decides to sing the songs are going to be subject to his instantaneous decisions. This person on Twitter doesn't get that. That to me is part of the appeal of classic Van Halen. When he singled out that little girl in Greensboro I can't imagine that was premeditated. I'm sure he came up with that on the spot. To me, when he sings the songs different every night it tells me that the songs are always organic, always evolving, never quite "finished" which is what makes his style so cool. The only time he gets in trouble is when he's deliberately upstaging Eddie or making the show too much about him, but he hasn't done that in the past few weeks.

Anyway, if this person doesn't approve of Dave's style then I'll say what's been said many times over the years--stay at home and listen to the albums. He can even turn it up really loud to simulate that he's at a concert.

So this is love

Little tired tonight to write a full review....I plan to tomorrow..maybe most on here won't read it..but if just one cat reads it, then it was worth my time. It's 2:00AM here and I want to get in a few things while they are still fresh. So here's a quick recap of Van Halen's ass kicking of St Louis this Sunday night...
First the whole attendance issue cleared up nicely, not sure of the final number but it had to be in the 15,000 thousand range. This made it around 3/4 full, which some fans were giving some grief to the city and it's people for....fact is..the band sold a lot of tickets...not as many as 2008, but still a lot and by the time they hit SHE'S THE WOMAN...most of the bottom half was filled and rockin. I was appalled at the fact that a lot of people in the upper levels didn't even stand AT ALL!!! Wish DLR would have shined a spotlight on them ALL and called them out!!! At least stand for the first half of the show...or at least the first half dozen songs!!! Also, first Van Halen show I went to with no EDDIE chants....disappointing to say the least. The band was given a good response and a very loud reception, but should have been louder!!! The band is now a well oiled machine after being on the road for over two months now and it shows in how tight they are musicially.
So they hit the ground runnin' with UNCHAINED.....it's sounds terrific and the extended jam between Dave and Eddie after the guitar solo is fucking PRICELESS. It's a call and response, but unlike any you have heard before....a bastard hybrid of Roth tarzan screams and King Edward insanity. Throughout the first half of the set, Dave sounded flawless with his vocals...only showing a brief struggle with CHINATOWN. His energy tonight was better than Pittsburgh or Louisville, he seemed energized to be slaying the crowd. The set list had no major surprises....got FULL BUG...HEAR ABOUT IT LATER....TROUBLE WITH NEVER....WOMEN IN LOVE...OUTTA LOVE AGAIN. But, the real fun tonight were in the stories Dave told. The way he stopped the band during DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY to point out a couple making out and attach a story to it. The way he mistaked the crowd chanting "Blues!!! Blues!!!" for booing after he made a hockey joke during his acoustic solo. Because of this misunderstanding (couldn't these fuckers have just laughed at Dave's wisecracks instead of doing a chant for the hockey team?? I get that they are in the second round of the playoffs, but how often does Van Halen come and play a gig in this town????)..DLR cut out the ENTIRE end of his dog story and went right into ICE CREAM MAN early..catching the band off guard. Alex got a HUGE round of applause after his too short solo and Eddie was brillant in his. He told the crowd "Thank You" at least four times during that solo. It was a highlight for sure. Lots more things to get to....tomorrow...

FOR THOSE HOW GIVE A SHIT....(I always read people's reviews of the gigs on this tour on this site and VH Links....so if just one Roth Warrior digs it....home run for me..........
1. THE ARENA STARTED to get an energy building up right after the Rolling Stones tune....when the upper deck saw Alex getting his ear monitors and sticks, they screaming started a couple of minutes early and I knew and let my wife know (she looked drop dead sexy tonight...dressing to the nines...nothing better than having your woman wearing some sexy clothes and smelling G R E A T to make the night absolutelty flawless. Lucky beyond measure to have a wife so hot...lucky Diamond didn't snatch her away!!!!) I noticed all these Van Halen shirts that I didn't see at the other two gigs...they had a band picture on the front and the dates on the back. There was another that fans had the VH logo from the first record and on the back had the promo poster screen print with the dates. I wanted one, but turns out both of these were 20 buck street vendor shirts. Shit, we parked in the coliseum parking garage and then right into the venue. By the time I stopped a young 20 somethin year old fan and found out where to score one, KOOL @ The Gang were hitting their stride and getting ready to bust out some "Jungle Boogie". Any fuckin how...anybody else miss those black VH blimps from the reunion tour????
HITTING THE STL GROUND RUNNIN'the band was red hot and sounded like they were out to prove a point. Maybe this was imagined on my part...but Alex seemed to be hitting harder and Eddie's guitar was brutally loud while the board got the mix under control. I wished they kept it this loud all night, but Eddie was drownin out every thing but the vocals. The kick drum hit hard as fuck during UNCHAINED , but that thumpin' bass I am so use to (and crave in this tune) was buried. My wife says "it's because we are on Ed's side...."but Wolf's sound improved big time as the set progressed. The breakdown has all ready been talked about in detail. RUNNIN' WITH THE DEVIL hit next and Dave's vocals were so good you would have swore it was the record. SHE'S THE WOMAN came slammin in and while I was stoked at how tight the band was (the mix was perfect by this song)...Dave was sounding outstandingly good. Not rearranging lyrics or dropping off entirely...doing totally perfection where all the little bitches who have no idea what DLR's stage show is all about ( Talked to a KSHE DJ today on the studio line who was cool about talking about the show for a few brief minutes..but the only real compliant was how "off key Dave was HALF the night and sounding shot vocally after before the gig was over". Again, someone who has no grip on what Dave's balance is and what constitutes a "great DLR gig". ) Most of the crowd got into the new tune, but had those who either bolted for a piss or another beverage..dude..or ones who showed zero support for the tune. I just screamed the lyrics and pumped my fist in the air like is what just as much a classic as the first two tunes. Had one older guy a row in front who was pumped for the "classic" songs and got excited when a couple deep cuts got played, but showed no love for the new material. Fucking ZERO. Great fan...but way to live in the past. Go pick up the record and turn that six pack..into a seven pack!!!! You are missin' out jackass!!! Anyway, we are up to THE FULL BUG. Great to hear live. My favorite tune from Diver Down, but it sucks that we have to lose a total ass kicker like ROMEO DELIGHT to get it. Man, no doubt if I had to pick one...it's RD till the cows come home...but THE FULL BUG is a high energy romp!! Just miss DLR abusing that harmonica after the Guitar solo. What a great song musically....a boogie unlike any other. Next...TATTOO. I went and took a piss and looked at the shirts again...but the wife loves the song. It does sound much better live and continues to get better as the tours progresses. Sounded better in the Steel City than Louisville...better in the Lou than the Steel City...and this was the one new cut that got a positive reaction from the crowd. Fuckers, the weakest track from the new album (still great..just pales next to OUTTA...AS IS...CHINA..FROSTY..)and it's the one they cheer for. Except for 'ole Grandpa Moses over to my left...if ain't from 1984 or before...he ain't interested . (he pops up again later) We now come to a devilish version of EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!!! with Dave reciting a small story about "Van Halen being a multi-cultureral band" and then blessing STL with some his trademark yelps, wild tarzan hoots and hollars and typical Daveism's. The band is playing extradionarly well and this songs showcases why. Such a classic....a song I never get tired of. This would fit in perfect after Alex's solo...kick in the intro drum pattern.
NEXT UP IN THE SET are SOMEBODY GET ME A DOCTOR, CHINA TOWN, and HEAR ABOUT IT LATER. These songs all were business as usual, nothing getting extended or any Spinal Tap type moments...no blower rants. Just the band locked in a tight groove and rockin as hard as any band can. CHINA TOWN is my favorite track from the new record and it sounded unbelievable Sunday night. The bass drums were riding out in the fore front in the PA and it made for your chest thumping like a rabbit's heart. The band was terrific on this song...it sounded like the record..only better. This was Dave's first struggle of the night, but just barely. He nailed all the lyrics and never gave up on the tune. It was a barn burner and DEMANDED respect from the audience, but still had large numbers of fucking douchebags running for the bathroom. Guess those pussies couldn't handle VH at it's hardest and most excellent. I can....play the tune twice fellas..I will scream even louder.
PART III...tomorrow.

Here ya go - they've got tons of stuff on youtube.
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4y4dybqPENQ?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4y4dybqPENQ?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>

Was actually at this gig in Coral Springs... have to say wasn't digging the DLR homage... weak screams and just didn't have that Dave swagger... plus the bad Garth wig... however, Guitarist was really good, and the Bassist actually sang the one Spammy song I heard great... but then I walked out... Van Hagar hurts my ears... maybe I'm too harsh, but Ralph really set the bar for DLR tributes...

Ralph really set the bar for DLR tributes...

\m/ \m/

Fuck yeah he did.

And all these VH tribute bands need to go away now. Was fun when we didn't have the real thing for so long. But their time has passed.

Side note: do you guys think Max of TMZ gets paid to wear a VH tshirt its been twice this month...

No. He's been wearing it for a while now. Remember back when katy Pery & Justin Beiber were wearing them too? They became a trendy item. Sad part is I bet these people could probably name JUMP and that's it. No clue what VH is or was all about.

They started doing a jam in Unchained during Greensboro. I hadn't heard one before that which is why I made special note of it while texting the setlist to Momshell.

I gotta say, even though I've been to my fair share of shows I nevertheless got goosebumps just watching that opening video from this show. Just by standing there Roth brings out more from Eddie than anyone else can. You can't quantify that kind of chemistry.
