I started listening to the clips then 'screeeeeech' I had to stop. I want to be able to sit down with the whole album and listen to it front to back like the good ol' days. I've been phoning my local record stores to see if any of them are getting the vinyl in on Feb 7, but I've had no such luck. I was really aiming for a throwback to 1985, a time where I could sit with the new record; just me, the turntable and it.

However, everything I've heard so far clip-wise is great. I haven't been this happy since.... I don't think ever. Thank you Van Halen!

The night of Cafe Wha? when Dave was signing autographs out front, he told someone the album title. It struck me as very plain and straight forward, but just like the song Tattoo, it has grown on me. Reminds me of "Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do". Don't hammer me too hard for that opinion...just a thinking out loud observation. Even if it is a Haggis leftover, it's going to sound MUCH better with Dave's lyrics and voice on the track. After all, it wouldn't be the first time Dave sang over a Van Hagar leftover (BOV1 tracks), and they turned out pretty damn good.

I love the album title... it's deep. To me, A Different Kind of Truth is what we would have known had the band never split. Therefore, we are now getting a different kind of truth, and the selective amnesia in a heartbeat will rid us of the Sam years, which won't be hard for those of us that have only heard what we've had to endure at the grocery store, lol. Can't rave about Wolf enough, and I'm grinning from ear to ear reading the posts by the same people that slammed the kid in 07/8. He replied to someone's tweet that he started playing guitar at 9, drums at 10, and bass at 15. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about using a bunch of old demos for the new record. I never felt it was plagiarism, because its their own stuff, but I didn't know how it would work. Hearing all of this now, though, I think it's absolutely fuckin' brilliant. So many bands try to go back and "recapture" the old sound. How many Stones albums in a row now do we hear that they are trying to make a "classic Stones sounding" record? There are some good efforts in there, but it always falls short.

Big part of this album sounds like a direct follow-up to "Girl Gone Bad" and "Drop Dead Legs". For me it's the best direction Van Halen could take. I've always tried to imagine what would have happen if they hadn't split after "1984". Would they try something heavier and more thrashy than "Fair Warning"? It seems that's exactly what they did in ADKOT.
