This one really intrigues me... where is it going? The intro is pretty whacked out... This could be a sleeper that just opens up.

Well, going off the 90 second clip I can see this tune is going places. Reminds me of an "Outta Love Again" vibe in the verse with the guitar, it just kills. My favorite CLIP so far. But I love them all..

This other clip makes it clearer.

Va made a good point in the other thread, it may be based on a Dave demo from around 2002...

Someone told me on Twitter recently that "Honeybabysweetiedoll" sounded like DLR's "Flex"....

All I know is I love this fucking song! Has traces of "Act Like It Hurts" but with a harder groove, and reeks of decadence!

I dig this one ! Love the whacked out Eddie stuff and Dave's attitude on it.

After hearing the 90 second clip, my initial reaction to this was this song has kind of a Fair Warning era sound to it, like it could have been a leftover from Fair Warning. Who knows what all Ed has stashed away in that vault of his? For all we know, he could have a whole album's worth of leftover material from that album. After all, around that time was when he was at his creative peak. We only know of the songs that have somehow leaked out to bootlegs over the years.

Not on the 30 second clip in the first post, but on the 90 second one coupled with Flex, yes.

Holy Fuck! Get 'em a gig on Letterman or Conan or SNL, then play this cut live... The fuckin' crowd will stand in amazement before it's even over. Then, upon the realization that the song is over, only then will they remember that they've forgotten how to applaud! Every jaw in that room will be on the floor! They shall know they have witnessed the greatest band America has ever offered forth... VAN HALEN!

Definetely "Fair Warning" -soundalike! I wish Dimebag Darrell was alive to hear this...never been a big Pantera fan, but hearing this makes me think either Dimebag found his sound via Fair Warning, or this is a EVH tribute to Dimebag!

The Whammy pedal licks sound like a tip of the hat to Dime, don't they? I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

First verse is epic:

Honeybabysweetiedoll you're the one that I want alright I want, want it all -
Honeybaby my heart's aflame, I'm all ****ed up and you to blame
Honeybabysweetiegirl, let me count the ways you rock my world
Stone cold sister, soccer mom you're chargin' me like a cherry bomb!

I was really turned off by this at first, because it's so unlike anything VH has done, but it's grown on me a ton. Some killer riffs and solo from Ed. I think it even has a progressive sound to it.

This song so caught me off guard.
I avoided the clips and didn't listen until I got the CD.
When I saw the track title, I was expecting some kind of silly gigolo 'humma la bable la zeeble le bop' shit.
Instead I get hit with a track that sounds like it could have been ripped from a Rob Zombie horror film... fucking demonic.

Very well described. It's like a very modern rock metal song, but when Eddie plays it, he's imitating no one. He's rewriting the whole page, or writing a new one.

The difference with Eddie and the usual metal player is that this sounds like he doesn't take his metal style too seriously, like many do.

So this is love

Did the Whammy pedal make you think about this? That is a dangerous pedal and many think Dimebag was the only one who could make it sound musical. Looks like Ed took a crack and was able to use it tastefully.

God damn it I love rock and roll music!

No biggie, just another modern masterpiece. The middle of this album is fucking awesome.

So why does Dave censor himself on this track? "Come on, I'll pay you for it, what the fuck?" was no problem 30ish years ago, but "I'm all fucked up and you to blame" is too hot now? Do you think they wanted to avoid the warning label for marketing purposes?

There are times when this is my second favorite track on the record, after Blood & Fire.

HMmmm. Maybe they were part of the demos recorded with Dave previously? If I recall, there was talk of a bit of a different approach. I think As Is and hbsd could be from those sessions. Then again, who cares! Awesome tunes!

Love to hear this one live as well. Am I correct in thinking that they haven't thrown in any surprises off of ADKOT other than 'Blood And Fire' for one show? Love, love, love to hear the random deep cuts thrown in like 'The Full Bug' and 'Hang 'Em High,' but it's high time they gave us more Truth like HBSD. Hell - they could even throw in 'Bullethead' and it wouldn't screw with the show that much... it's only 2 1/2 minutes long!

It took me awhile but like others here have said, I can unequivocally state this is my favorite song off the album. Everything about it is brilliant. Someone said it reminds them of Fair Warning. For me it screams Women and Children First, kind of like a sped-up "Act Like It Hurts" with lyrics. I LOVE that part at the 2:09 mark where Alex plays in half time and Dave slows down the lyrics. So dirty and nasty it's great!

I agree. Undoubtedly a bit easier to sing, plus Ed would have a song in the set with which he could dick around with that blasted sustainer. I hate that thing, but it sure does work in this tune.
