View Full Version : EVH breaks out the Charvels in Louisville

I was at the show in Louisville Saturday, and noticed Ed whipped out a black & yellow Charvel for Tattoo. He had used that FrankenWolgang in LA for the number...

Also, on I'll Wait, he brought out a black Charvel with red & white stripes.

Maybe we could post some pics and track his axe selection for these 2 tunes, or any others that get a unique approach. Not sure if these guitars are from the 2004 run or not, but I think he used one on I'll Wait in 07/08 also.

I didn't notice the guitar...

There's some decent vid of I'll Wait. That axe is bad-ass, like a backward Franky. Couldn't tell the hardware, if it's an EVH Floyd or original Floyd, but I'm gonna research the photos.

Saw on the Links some flickr account with some shots of the Tattoo axe.

Just figured The Man may still be testin' for the perfect combo, so maybe us gearheads could observe and report as the tour continues...

If you had a guitar that Eddie actually used for a song live....would you use it? Or display it? Or lock it away in your vault & only take it out when alone once a month to stare at it?

I would have it on display in a glass case in my living room for all to enjoy. But I would play it only to learn ADKOT tabs.

Use it because I'd never sell it and probably be buried with it;)

Hell to the Yeah! Is it always ask and ye shall receive on here? LOL!

I notice the Art Series logo on the headstock, perhaps these are still in the arsenal from 07-08.

Now, there's a second anti-Franky to be immortalized...

I will buy one someday. I was checking out one from 04 the other day. He must have been drunk because it was just marked up with a sharpie all over the place.

I doubt it was just cheap wine Ed was on. Yeah he drew all over his guitar neck with sharpie. The best part of that tour is when Ed went ape shit on stage and started busting his guitar up and almost clocked Sam with it. Too bad Ed missed.

That's a lot of dough for a guitar played once. I could understand if it were a regularly used guitar. I'd play it if I had it, not much sentimentality attached to it other than "neat". I can stripe guitars too! lol

I would totally use it.. guitars are useless as wall art...

Depending on the buyer... it's a combination of unique art and it's an instrument, plus having been used by the "rock god" and autographed it's like having a game ball from some big event. Tough call on how much you'd play it or just display it.

If you had signed game ball from the Super Bowl you probably wouldn't take it out and play catch with it in the street once a week...

Not a bad deal for Ed though... I figure Ed orders about 50 from the factory at cost. I'd estimate wholesale parts and labor at about $400 a piece. So his cost is about $20,000. Last 2 tours they sold at an average over $10,000 each... So Ed pockets around a $1 million. All he had to do is spend a few afternoons applying tape and picking color schemes, play it once and scribble on it with a Sharpie...

I'm in the wrong damn business...

Figured the Ebay auctions would start up again this tour... definitely liking his work better the last two batches...the ones from '04 were a joke. I think if I got one it'd be in a glass case 90% of the time...and I'd tell visitors "Don't even look at it..." ala Nigel Tufnel.

Yo, VA! Got a shot of the Charvels from Auburn Hills? Saw that clip of I'll Wait, it looked like a third unit to me. Haven't seen Tattoo yet... My evening's research has just begun! Beyond ready for my second dose of VH tomorrow!

WTF Dude?

Are you falling behind?

Do you mean to tell me you don't attend every show, sit in the VIP section, coordinate sound checks, MC all the meet-n-greets, host every video and have a copy of every digital picture taken at every show..? WTF?

This is highly disappointing...

Yes, usually I do all of that, but I was taking a leak during Tattoo when he brought out the latest Charvel....

Won't happen again.... ;)

Yeah, I look forward to some guy walking into the Pawn Stars shop in a couple of years, and being told by Rick that the guitar just ain't worth the asking price, but he'd give the owner a couple hundred dollars for the piece of shit.

Dunno about that, as this year's offerings look FAR cooler than previous ones...and EVH's signature (on a guitar he played) is probably still worth a few$K....

Hell, anything is possible when it comes to collectors and their money, but to me, even with Ed's signature on the damned things, these guitars look like they fell out of the back window of Joe Satriani's Chrysler minivan.
