Provincial government just quashed the film tax credit in their budget yesterday. Today, the announcements from producers and Hollywood are flying in. They're all pulling their planned productions for this summer.

Just when I have enough experience on my resume to actually start landing speaking roles and could have earned $500-800 per fucking day. Stupid fucking tools have no clue how much income the industry generates for the local economy. Stupid banjo-pluckin' fucking hillbillies...

The govt reponse to the backlash about the job losses? If they're destitute, they can use social housing. Hey stupid...there's a housing crisis in this province, and 3 subsidized apartment buildings were just closed...so they could be renovated, and sold as condo's.

I think it's time to do a guerilla shoot at the Legislative buildings...

Thanks for letting me rant...

I wondered why they did so much filming up in Canada. I didn't know your government was subsidizing it.

That and the exchange rate, but that incentive is gone now too as the loonie is higher than the u.s. dollar.

When I still worked in corporate America I can remember lots of Canadians working down here. They were still being paid in Canadian Dollars and lived in Canada but the company would transfer them down here for long periods of time to work on assignments. Cheaper labor. So instead of hiring more US employees they just brought some Canadians down. Got to love corporate America.

The bunch I worked with were from Winnipeg. They couldn't handle the hot Mexican food we eat down here. One protested about the salsa. It was funny. They were so homesick. They hated it here.

I've been on the prairies for 6 years. You cannot find spices here. Used to be I couldn't find horseradish hot enough for me. Now the regular shit kills my sinuses!

Fuck

I'm leaving So CA after 40 years to go up north. Right now I enjoy 24 hour dive Mexican restaurants at every corner. I think I'm going to be sad :(

*This may be a new record speed for a thread derailment. What? 5 posts in and it went off topic to hot food? lol...this place is great.

We tried to make our Canadian co-workers feel at home. We realized they were in a shitty situation away from home and family. What I discovered is there was a culture gap. We actually had more in common with the Mexicans than we did with these Canadians from Winnipeg. They couldn't handle our food. I guess we do eat hot and spicey but we are used to it. It was killing them. All I can say is the Mexicans have invaded and now we all dump Tapatio on everything. They didn't even like the tequlla. I can see them crying if it was Cabo Wabo but it was the good stuff.

Barrow Alaska has Pepe's. It's a good Mexican Restaurant too. You can't get much farther north than that.

If you're staying on the west coast, you'll be fine. Lots of kick. Ithink it's just the prairie provinces. Old school meat and potatoes on the farm.

I wondered why they did so much filming up in Canada. I didn't know your government was subsidizing it. It's provincial subsidies, not federal, so not all provinces have incentives. We took a big hit when the dollar first reached par, but things started picking up again last year, and this season WAS going to be smoking. To say the least, not anymore. Pullout announcements started immediately.

Other provinces in the past have done the same, and then put the tax credits back in place once the economic loss hits. That's how BC lost the X-files years ago. That production generated a million dollars a day in the local economy. The big loss is for the independent, emerging talent. The web series I'm in is 100% Saskatchewan, and demonstrates the sociological culture of the province. You can't make a unique production like that anywhere else. Check out the trailer here: www.gunderson.tv

So many Ethnic grocery stores in Saskatoon now...you can find some awesome spices.

For the most part you are bang on though....meat and potatoes...not many know how to make decent Chili.
