If you look closely at the PBR can it says Pabst Blue won it's ribbon for the best tasting beer in 1893... which is proof life fucking sucked in 1893...

Or Pabst was better in 1893 before everyone watered down their beers with soda water and piss...

But even beer snobs (like me) will say that Pabst ain't a bad "lawn-mowing beer" and is better than any of the brews offered by the Big 3 (i.e. Bud, Miller, & Coors)...

What the hell ever happened to Stroh's?

I knocked back rivers of that stuff back in school, and now I can't find it anywhere.

Still have it here last time I checked...

I still haven't had Schlitz "Retro" beer, supposedly recreated the 1960s formula before they cheapened it in the 70s...

When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, the PX would have PBR at the far corner of the freezer, gathering dust. Usually the cheap beer of choice would be Nattie Lights.

No air conditioning. Heat was a wood stove. You had to get up early to make a fire so you could cook breakfast. The bathroom was usually an outhouse. No antibiotics and whiskey and biting on a stick was the painkiller. No birth control. Lights were candles and oil lamps.

Yeah, you might say life sucked in 1893.

Same here. I loved that stuff. It was beer from Detroit if I remember right.

The worst beer I ever had was an Amstel Light. It was so horrid I couldn't even drink it.

Stroh's was the first beer I ever drank. When I was in high school and college we drank the shit out of that stuff.

You know I thought about drinking PBR someday. But now that I decided not to since it is the drink of choice for hipster douche bags.

Don't let them and their skinny jeans win. Drink it. Drink a lot of it.

Nope, my cheap beer of choice always has and always will be. Nattie Lite! When I was in the USMC and we had a big party going on in the barracks and we needed a lot of beer fast, then we'd just buy 24-packs of Nattie-lite. Now for small or special occasions, that's when we'd get the more expensive stuff like Guiness, Bud Light, Pacifico, Sam Adams, Grolsch and Mickey's.

Natural Ice is the way to go if we're talking low cost but high alcohol content. Not the best tasting beer, by a long shot. But hey, 6 or 7 of those and you don't really care anyway. :gulp:

Here's a man who knows his cheap beer! Natty Ice used to be Zing's go-to frosty beverage on the weekends. Cheap as sin, and makes you feel like sin the next day! But - more bang for the buzz makes up for it. Nowadays I've switched to Busch Ice - same % content, but half the hangover. Alas, Zing is drying out this weekend - got to cleanse the system for awhile before the serious partying starts up in May!

Dude, I remember rolling pennies for beer money back in my 20s - cheap beer was a way of life! Miller Lite Ice was pretty cheap too. Yeah, it was Miller Lite but it was 5.5! Natural Ice will slap the shit out of you and you'll feel it the next day. And believe it or not, I'm drinking Busch Ice right now. The gas station was out of Natty Ice and Icehouse - had to go with the really cheap stuff, 12 pack of Busch Ice is $6.29! And down here it's nickname is The Beast, go figure.

But if you're really going for the quick fix, it has to be either the Bull (old smokey nose as the old guys called it), Mickey's Ice, or - if you can stand it - Old English 800 (8 ball). Those have to be the absolute shittiest tasting beers on the planet, but if you're young, on a budget and looking for a massive buzz with an equally massive hangover, they're the only way to fly.

Here's to cheap beer and cheap women! :) :gulp:

I ended up with my grandmother's 1972 Cadillac Coupe deVille. It was a cruiser and in great shape. It had a 454 and would push you back into the seat when you went to pass someone. It wasn't my daily driver but I would fire it up and go cruising in it just to keep the car in shape. I used to get some friends. We would wear tacky Hawaiian shirts, set the seats down low and cruise around. Then we would pick up some oil drums (those big ass cans of Fosters Lager) and hand grenades (Mickey's Big Mouth). We would watch porn and get blitzed on cheep beer. The whole point was to be as tacky as possible. It was fun.

Ain't nothin' more manly than a big ass can of Fosters! It's funny the nicknames most of those beers have, depending on where you live. The cheapest beer I've ever had though, the one that takes the prize, I don't even know what it was. We'd go down to Tijuana, to the Revolucion district, and some of the bars would have nickel draft - a glass of beer for 5 fucking cents!!! Tasted like shit and it would take like 10 to catch a buzz, but it was a nickel!!! Didn't need a passport to get in to Mexico, didn't need one coming back. If you made it back, that is :) Stagger around too far in Revolucion and you wind up in a bad, bad part of town and the cops will bust you just for having no ID...Nothing worse than waking up in a Tijuana jail, stone drunk and needing bail money.

I enjoy the PBR. It's like $15 for a 30 pack.

BTW - read "The Devil in the White City" - lots of interesting things came out of the Chicago World Fair. It's where Pabst got its blue ribbon.
