It's all how you define marriage. In the Mormon church they believe their temple marriages are for all time and eternity. Also, it's not legal for them to do so in the physical world in the United States but in their spiritual marriages a man can be married to more than one woman. The church believes if a man is widowed and remarries in the temple both women will be his polygamous wives in the next life. If a woman is widowed she cannot be married to another man in the temple because she is already married to her former husband. So the church never really got rid of polygamy.

The thing is the state does not recognize a Mormon temple wedding. So what Mormons do is they get the county marriage license and have a civil marriage and then they have an eternal marriage in the temple so they are essentially married twice. One marriage satisfies the state and the other satisfies the church.

I think how you solve the problem with the gays is allow the church's to accept or reject the marriage under their own beliefs but have the state recognize the gay marriage as legal. It's how the Mormons have to play it because their version of marriage is not recognized by the state as legal.

This way the gays can have legal marriage and the church's still can do their thing by having the freedom to reject gay marriage in their church. That would satisfy the freedom of religion aspect of it.

Frankly I think we should just call gay marriage a civil union because marriage for thousands of years has traditionally been between a man and woman and much of the legality of it deals with having offspring. The gays would get less backlash from the church's if they just called it a civil union. As long as the church's have the freedom to discriminate according to their own beliefs they have freedom of religion. Let the church's have their rules and if a person breaks them, let them get excommunicated. Big deal.

Actually the government fails big time when it tries to legislate morals. What the idiot in the video doesn't get is you lose your rights when you start to discriminate against any particular group, because if you can do it to them, it can be done to you. So I would say letting the gays have full use and privilege of the first amendment actually protects the religious people's rights to it as well. It's when we start excluding people is when we are on the road to trouble. Again we need to go back to I hate what you are saying but you have the right to say it. We need to put freedom above everything or we will lose it. Sometimes we have to defend the rights of people we don't agree with or even don't like to protect our own freedom so we have to look at this from what is the greater good viewpoint.

A lot of religions seem to be built on the control of woman.

The thing that confuses me a bit about the mormon polygamy thing is that you must have ended up with a lot of guys who had no wife because outwith times of war there wouldn't be enough women to go around.

Isn't this the tool that demanded Mittens fire his foreign-policy advisor for being gay, and when he did - THEN ripped on Wrongney for caving to him? Class act.

You don't have the right to discriminate again anyone for religious (or any other stupid) reasons, sorry. Was skimming the newswire and this seems appropriate...

http://www.theprovocation.net/2012/06/you-cant-be-conscientious-objector-to.html

Constitutional protections of religious belief were meant to safeguard a person's right to worship - or not to worship - the god(s) of his choice in the manner of his choosing. They were meant to protect what many Christians are fond of calling the "vertical" relationship between an individual and his/her chosen deity. They were never meant to intrude upon "horizontal" relationships between human beings.

Of course, conscientious objector status is granted to some who decline to serve in the military on moral or religious grounds. But if we start granting citizens the right to deny one another fair treatment on these grounds, our judgment is deeply flawed at best; at worst, it's blatantly discriminatory and a clear violation of civil rights. Courts have consistently recognized this principle. Time and again, they've denied any right to discriminate for religious reasons.

Of course..... and hating for Jesus causes folks to hate Jesus. And if you hate Jesus... or if you hate "for Jesus", which causes Jesus to hate you, well guess where you spend eternity? http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/teufel/d010.gif

Yeah, but since he'll still be living down the street from Pat Robertson, and in the bath house with Jim Bakker, Ted Haggard, and Jerry Falwell, it won't seem all that different from his life up there on earth. http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/teufel/d025.gif

Your understanding of Christian Doctrine is severely lacking.

You would have thought that after 2000 years of warfare and over 38 000 denominations worldwide you might have noticed that there is no such thing as a universal Christian doctrine.

The thing about mythology without evidence is that it is always up for grabs.

if you believe it's Christian to use slurs against people you don't like, regardless of whether they're sinners, then your understanding also is lacking...
