Alright folks...

I haven't played in a long, long time...and I don't have a lot of money...

I'm looking to pick up a beginning acoustic, and a cheap one...

any thoughts on what I should look for? I'm not looking for a gear battle of who can find the most sublime fucking taylor or seagull out there...I'm looking for some cheap ass guitar that can be usable for five or six months...before reselling it and getting a better guitar...

Thanks guys...and gals...

I picked up a fairly decent Yamaha electro acoustic for $100.I have had it around 6 month's and play nearly every day and am very impressed. It's a Yamaha FX-310A.Came with a decent set of steel strings,I have not had to re string it so far and think i can get at least another few months out of them.If you can afford it i would recommend it.

I also have that dvd :)

The cheapo Yamaha that they sell at Guitar Center as been really good to me. Got gig bag and a few extras for a $100.00 during Christmas 3 years ago. I think it goes for about 150.00 these days.

The Yamahas aren't bad, Poj...check that and the Fender out and see which one you think plays and sounds better. :baaa:

I have a cheap Fender accoustic, and a cheap Ibanez elect/accoustic. Like them both. Of course, when you "play" as bad as I do, even the expensive ones sound bad!

I really should sell my 40th anniversary Fender American Standard Strat...

as for the quality, there's little difference among the cheap (acoustic) guitars I think?
those are made in China, Vietnam, Taiwan, using the same machines, under the different names.

if I were you, I will buy a popular brand's cool looking one. because it's easy to resell.

Thanks Cato...I'm not super worried about re-selling...

When I upgrade, I'll likely donate the cheapies to my kid's school's music teacher...

I tested all of those out...and liked them all...but their sound was all slightly different...but good in their own way...

Ugh...

I know you said something about Taylors...have you looked into the "baby Taylors"? I got Sniper one of those a few years ago to have as a "fart" around guitar and for road trips or camping. I think the thing only set me back about $200 or $250. It's a great sounding guitar, and Sniper plays the shit out of it.

Did you get one yet? Just curious...I'm pretty much in the same boat for my 8 year-old.

Make sure to get him a "kid-sized" guitar to start....its tough enough to start learning, let alone on a HUGE guitar meant for an adult

There are a ton of "beginer" guitar companies...and many local luthiers making cool stuff....check out your local guitar shop...and buy him a COOL strap

Love the fucking thing...

Want to get something now that's a little fuller sounding, but if I never get another acoustic...I'd be happy.

and this thing sounds bad-ass amped up...

My kids have named it..."El Diablo..."

I love that shit...

Sorry Vain...didn't get it new...

got it from a dude who bought it for his kid, who never used it...got a gig bag...tuner...capo...whole shitload of stuff. Found the same one...case-less...at a pawn...and couldn't get them below $200...

It's a great sounding guitar...lol...

and apparently for "lady friends..."

;)

nice man, you got yourself a sweet deal there!

POJO_Risin
12-02-2012, 01:46 PM
Yeah...I stopped at the pawn shop and tried to get them down to the $150 with a hard case...but they said I was full of shit, that I wouldn't get the guitar at that price. I brought it to them right after I got it, and since I wasn't lying...they told me to come in and they'd knock $100 off something without haggle the next time I bought something there...

lol...

waiting for the right guitar to go on sale. They have a Seagull S6 there now overpriced at $350...If they drop the fucker to $225 "on sale," I'm going in for the kill...

VAiN

Nice! I've heard good things about the Seagulls.
I've had a strong dislike of pawn shops ever since I had to buy back a guitar that was stolen from me years ago. Turns out the law states you have to buy your shit back for what the shop paid for it. I mean, come on.. Surely they didn't know it was stolen.
