DNC Plans On Killing Cancer Patients

On Tuesday, September 4th, the DNC will officially kick off. Tens of thousands from around the world will head to the Queen City and there's no secret, the convention will have a major impact locally, including on people battling cancer.

Matthews resident Sue Falco is fighting stage four colon cancer, and says the DNC will force a major cancer treatment center to close. Carolina's Hematology Oncology Associates on South Tryon will close for four days during the DNC, because of security and traffic concerns.

"It's kind of fascinating how an event like this impacts a city," Falco said.

Carolina's Hematology Oncology Associates will have two other locations open around Mecklenburg County during the DNC. An employee says South Tryon patients will be able to receive treatment at the two other locations.

"I'm very fortunate that I can drive myself to and from chemotherapy but I know a lot of people depend on family members who have to drive a distance to get to their therapy," she said.

WBTV reached out to management at Carolinas Hematology Oncology Associates for comment, but did not hear back. Falco says she understands the office will close because of its proximity to the convention.

It's not like they're 'planning' on killing cancer patients, is it? That would suggested that they decided to hold the DNC in 'the Queen City' precisely with that end in mind. Rather, a knock on effect of the DNC being held there - an admitedly sad one - is that a treatment centre has to close, neccessitating some cancer patients to be treated elsewhere in the short term. That is deeply regretable. But is it the DNC's fault? Or should the town authorities have pointed this out at an earlier stage and come to find a way around it?

Politics really is an odd thing when stories - or rather non-stories - are spun like this. I'm surely there will be plenty for right-leaning media outlets to attack during the DNC speeches etc, so there really is little need for a 'story' this distasteful to be printed.
