VA, is Bissonnette(author's real name) violating confidentiality agreements by revealing military protocol?

The Pentagon seems to think he is. Regardless of what he said, some of his former comrades are chaffing over his book deal and the fact he may have done this book out of spite over his being pushed out of the SEAL's...

I will say he does come across as very likeable and down-to-earth in the interview, and even his SEAL critics acknowledge that he was a professional and good operator...

Being retired military, and one who used to have a very high security clearance, I've got a big problem with his writing of the book....

One of the most used acronyms in the military is OPSEC, or Operational Security.... And within the SPECWAR community, that is even more important.....

I think part of it is the 24 hour news cycles and the desire to get the big story, even when it arguably crosses the line into what could be construed as classified information and/or a violation of OPSEC....

One of the earliest occurrences of this was when US troops landed in Mogadishu, where they came ashore to the glare of a bunch of TV cameras....

I do also have a problem with him writing this book based on OPSEC concerns, and find his motivations to be a bit dubious. However, the Pentagon and senior commands often violate OPSEC principles when they find it politically convenient to do so such as for PR, advertizing/recruiting, etc. That being said, in the other thread I posted an alternative online book link that basically calls him out as profiteering and being a bit dubious in his facts and he wasn't near the room when Bin Laden was shot and came in afterward, and is blurring that fact a bit with a mistaken, borderline fraudulent statement that sounds like a "firsthand account" and essentially isn't...

Why spend 4 hrs. making a physical & voice disguise if his real name is now known? Or was this 60 Minutes interview done before his real name was released?

I'm sure jihadists are going to have an easier time finding this dude by using his real name instead of knowing what he might look like.

If that's true then it's layered propaganda in the sense that there are those that say his account differs from the gov account.
My feeling is that if the PTB wanted this info squashed, then it would be squashed, no ifs ands or buts.
Of course if you're going down the Conspiracy road, you can't really deny the timing of the piece.

It's THAT part of this situation that infuriates me, much more than the book itself....

Fox (and one other news organization, can't remember which one) outed this guy, putting he and his family in immediate risk.....

I find that unfathomable.....

I thought Faux News was supposed to be the voice of the Tea Party and unwavering supporter of American troops? So they commit treason by revealing the real name of a Navy SEAL that killed Bin Laden !!

All the assholes on Faux News (Hannity, Limbaugh, etc) calling themselves "patriots" are the same type of cumstains like draft-dodger Ted Nugent calling U.S. soldiers his "blood brothers". They should all be dragged into the street and shot like dogs.

Exactly...

Look at how many times the story changed early on...

If that was a true military special-ops raid and killing that had suposedly been rehearsed a few times, there would be a 100% well documented recollection of events...

But there are holes and rewrites all over this story, and thats just what this book is, another rewrite of the same bullshit story...

In the real world a book of this nature would never see the light of day from a major publisher...

But this is psychological warfare being used on the American People to try to rally them around all sorts of propaganda nonsense like wars on "terror" and God knows what else, infringements on personal freedom and the killing of American citizens just because their official bullshit story says they're a terrorist......

...

You've obviously never served in the military and have no idea what you're talking about by spouting silly shit such as this. There's a big difference between rehearsing and actually going in field and carrying out the op. And different people will always have different recollections--especially since this guy did not pull the trigger on Bin Laden despite his "we all killed him" happy horseshit. He arrived in the room minutes AFTER Binny was dead.

The saying is: no plan ever survives first contact (with the enemy). Whether it was a rehearsed mission or not, there is always confusion in the fog of war. The failed Operation Eagle Claw and various less than successful highly rehearsed raids in the past like in Vietnam at Son Tay turned out very differently than planned despite months of intricate training and rehearsal...

If ye believe that My Father and I are One, then I am God, and God is a man, because I AM.

gibˇberˇish (jbr-sh)

You know it's funny, I was watching some college football at a bar tonight, and ESPN identified a positional player at a major university as "the youngest person ever to serve in the Delta Force" and they went on about how he was an ex-SF Delta member before getting out and going to school. I thought it was kinda bullshit. I won't say what school or his name, but it's all pretty grab-ass if you ask me. This guy and his family, maybe even teammates and classmates, are now at (albeit a small) level of risk...

Yeah, it was a shitty thing to do, though stories like this are simply a race among major news organizations, just like the outing of Prince Harry in Afghanistan a few years ago. The real question is: how did this reporter learn of this guy's real name? Who told him? Could it possibly have been Bissonnette himself?

No. He was a SEAL and was well-regarded in his unit according to his former comrades. They do not approve of the book, nor was he in the same area of the compound with the SEALs who shot Bin Laden and he saw the body postmortem which makes some of his more controversial statements a tad bullshit...
