eBay has really killed the pawn shops around here. No good deals to be found any more. Even the used stuff at GC and Sam Ash isn't that great.

9245Ok, I was wondering because I just bought a P Bass on a whim that I shouldn't have. It's a Factory Special Run Antigua P Bass. Its really nice, Like new and everything but I would need to get $525 out of it. I would ship it for that too,

I have a digitech gsp 21 pro that I'll never sell, just because $300 ain't worth more than all the memories. ;)

My roomie in the 90s had one. Lightweight......12AX7 preamp.....all the tube sound and grind from the preamp...all the benefits of solid state power amp section.

I still prefer all-tube. But that is just me. Valvestate is definitely a step up from solid-state.

I had one in the mid 90's too, with the two matching 4x12s. It was a great sounding amp.

Yeah i have to have a tube power section. What throws me more than anything is I can feel a real tube amp. You have the whole relation of the power tubes, the transformer and the speaker coil going on. The speaker coil is actually part of the power amp circuit. You can feel it when you play. On a solid state rig that whole vibe is gone. It may sound pretty good but something is missing. I mean the low maintenance of solid state equipment has a plus. Tubes are sometimes a pain but you can't get the feel with nothing else.

I now pretty regularly see the 1oow heads for around $300 or less....pretty cheaply you could have a 1oow Marshall

Mmmmmmmm...I remember them having decent distortion......not the "Classic" type.....but for the money its till a deal....more of a PANTERA distorion, as opposed to the "Brown Sound"

Yeah Nitro. You said it right. You can feel a tube amp. Can't describe it any better than that. Solid State amps sound like they are fake, lol. Like they are just pretending to be an amp. :hee:

I've got one of these Matt , had it for about 5 years , red tolex . I picked it up off ebay for £120 with cab ! I don't think I've switched it on for 2 years.

Weird...why not? Is the bridge floating per chance? If so, you need to block it...they are not floating trem friendly unfortunately.

tiny set screw on d-tuna itself doesnt seem to have any affect........

Tune 6th string to D...lock floyd....push in D-tuna...E string sharp....drop E string to pitch, engage D-tuna....D now sharp....or flat....Yet, the D-tuna I installed myself NEVER fails me....

I was using one last weekend at a gig as you had to use the club backline.

It was ok I guess but not ideal, I've used worse though.

The trick with them is to keep the contour as low as you can still get a distorted enough sound at, 10 o'clock or so, they get very angry wasp if you try and push it.

I ended up boosting it with my own MXR distortion pedal which I try not to do these days.

Yeah, think you answered your own question at the end of your post... :biggrin: Lemme ask you this: Does the set screw raise or lower the pitch AT ALL when in use? Did it come with an extra string-lock bolt in the case when you bought it? Sounds like you may need to change it out to the longer one they're supposed to come with? Hit up Adam at FU/D-Tuna, he can either talk you through fixing it or let you know what you need to do (or are missing)...

I've posted this before somewhere here I think... I've got a AVT-50 that I bought for my son off e-bay several years ago and he lost interest... But at the time I was posting on the old Plexi-Palace board and was inquiriung about the Marshall 12AX7 tube that came in these things. They are some cheap Chinese made tube from what I recall.

One of the guys offered to sell me a vintage 12AX7 for $10 to throw into the Marshall and see if it made any difference. He sent me a 1942 Knight Mullard 12AX7 that was tested in spec plus threw in a 1944 12AT7 to see what that would do in the pre-amp section.

Surprisingly... that old Mullard tube cleaned and tightened up the dirty channel very nicely and even brought out some nice harmonic ring on clean. It went from a buzzy hybrid distortion to a tight and solid crunch. The 12AT7 really brought out the mids and highs but I didn't like the way it muddied up the low end.

Still have it today and use it for some dirty stuff or slightly dirty for blues work.

i ran my v100 head through a marshall slant cab, and the smaller valvestate one together. it did sound massive, but like sesh said (and the handbook clearly states; if you'll pardon the pun) the contour control is very interactive with all the other controls... i did upgrade the 12ax7 too, to a ruby or gt.. can't remember.

i'd own another one in a heartbeat. light, powerful, great value for $. the tone's all in your hands anyway, dudes!!!

I have a line 6 now which is basically one decade better. I'd like a tube amp or a dozen but I don't have the time or the money for all of that. I wouldn't know how to fix one if it blew up.

That thing is loud as sin. Go ahead and piss me off neighbors. I will just keep bending the e string and hitting the a in that weird way that makes you want to puke, and do it so loudly that you will feel it in your dreams. Go ahead and fuck with me.
