Ok we watched this thing tonight - and I really wanted to laugh at it, but just could not find it as funny as people say it is. Tell me why it's funny.....

Because it's not funny. It's Seth McFarlane for fuck's sake.

Fucking thank you. I hate Seth. The main reason is he got Mike Judges King Of The Hill canceled so they could make room for the Cleveland show which is unwatchable. I will admit American Dad at times is humorous...but it's all cheap toilet jokes and the most fucking predictable stuff ever. I swear it's bad. McFarlane is crap.

Mike Judge is the best!! his cartoons were great & his movies were great. Class act guy with comedy that doesn't resort to sex & farting.

I heard the opening monologue with Patrick Stewart was the best part. Not very promising if that's the case.

I haven't seen it yet but a couple of mates thought was really funny, will just have to see for myself .
Humour is a funny thing :D , everybody's sense of humour is different.
I think Eddie Izard is hilarious my wife can't stand him , she doesn't get it . And I guess that's the thing you either get something or you don't .

I think it's pretty funny. But then I'd watch Mila Kunis read the Yellow Pages...

I thought it was funny, but nowhere in the class of some of the better comedies of the last 10 years like Stepbrothers, Superbad, 40-Year Old Virgin, etc. The living Teddy Bear joke wears thin but thought it had its moments. Both Jay McHale and Giovanni Ribisi were good but the plot was silly and the movie had a tossed-off, lazy quality about it like many of my last minute college papers...

It did have some funny moments, but it got old as the movie wore on....

Haven't seen it yet, but from what I've heard most of the jokes can be found in other movies...

It suffers from the problem that many films of this ilk suffer from - moving from 30 minutes to 90s minutes requires more than one joke.

I enjoyed Ted, but it is what it is.

Exactly. Don't think anyone's expecting it to sweep the Oscars, but it was a fun way to kill an hour and a half....

What was your alternative, watching "Dancing with the Stars"?

Sensible Shoes
12-28-2012, 05:04 PM
That's done for the season.

Obviously there was no alternative. I could have waxed, or something I guess.

I thought it was okay.

I am no McFarlane fan, the most of Family Guy I've seen is when someone has it on in the break room at work. He tends to ride the obscure references too long, instead of just getting in, getting the laugh, and moving on.

There is ALWAYS an alternative.

My dad just got done giving me shit about what show I watch (Survivor) and ten minutes later he says he watches the Kardashians. NO ONE watching the Kardashians has any business telling someone else what they watch stinks. He says "yeah, but I'm retired and have all this free time..." I could be housebound for a month and find something better to do than watching that shit.

I saw "Ted" and the theater and thought it was fuckin' hilarious! Damn near pissed myself and started making dolphin noises when the bear started impersonating that Hootie fucker. :yo:

Things that are better than watching the Kardashians when your retired:

-Get drunk.
-Eat whatever meat you want. If you want to eat steak, drink beer, then benchpress afterwards; then its none of their damn business.
-Fuck women you find off the internet.
-Watching sports.
-Watching golf. Yeah I said that!

It was funny. I wouldn't say it was an "instant classic" (whatever the fuck THAT means) or QUITE as great as some of my friends thought, but I got a few chuckles out of it.

Haven't watched mainstream TV in years. Last thing was like the forth year of deadliest catch (until the drama became unbearable). Unless it's a documentary or otherwise information I have 0 interest. Rather would read (and even then it has to be non-fiction) than give thirty seconds of time to the shit on TV these days......

Did somebody not tell these people the Captain Kangaroo already did that???

The problem is that it's essentially a half hour comedy skit blown up into a full movie format. It is funny in parts but it sort of doesn't work at the same time. The jokes are a tad lazy and I think the production and script has a sort of "mailed in" feel to it. The sentient teddy bear thing runs thin after a bit. But Goddamn, if Giovanni Ribisi dancing in front of his TV isn't one of the funniest fucking things I've ever seen...

I saw it in the movie theater and only lol'd once, didn't seem to be alone in that.

To me I seemed to be very overrated but funny is subjective and if other people laughed then that's all good.

This movie is one of the ten greatest of all time. Ranks right up there with 'I Know Who Killed Me' Lindsay Lohan tour de force.
