Is it any wonder that religious zealots are idiots?
Don't these parents want their children to grow up to be intelligent, useful and productive members of society?
I guess not.
Fucking idiots.

10 Interesting Lessons from Creationist-Inspired School Books
Ever wonder what’s in the textbooks that have been influenced by creationist-style curriculum? After screening The Revisionaries (Independent Lens, 10 p.m. Jan. 28), we were curious, so we checked a few of them out.
While some of the more traditional fundamentalist teachings have been limited to Christian schools and homeschooling curriculum, this kind of curriculum is no longer the sole purview of private funding. Many Bible-based Christian schools accept government-issued tuition vouchers for public school students. And some public school districts are teaching creationism alongside evolution. In both cases, tax dollars are at work.
Does this kind of teaching have an effect on students? For better or worse — depending on your viewpoint — it sure does. Here’s a comment one woman left after an article on a book called Science 4 Christian Schools, published by Bob Jones University Press.
“I spent grades 1 to 7 in a small Christian school and our textbooks were quite similar — I can’t remember the publishers we had, but honestly, this might have been one of them (I was born in ’90). In 6th grade we were taught that the earth is definitely only 8,000 years old because carbon dating is unreliable and just more ‘guesswork.’ Out of all of my former classmates, I am one of maybe two or three that no longer buys into this…”
Here’s a look at some of the lessons. You’ll notice that they’re not all just science oriented. These values influence many other school subjects. Your assignment: Tell us what you think, pro or con, creationist or non.
Humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time. Looks like Hanna-Barbera wasn’t so far off. Fred and Dino could have co-existed — and not all that long ago. “Bible-believing Christians cannot accept any evolutionary interpretation. Dinosaurs and humans were definitely on the earth at the same time and may have even lived side by side within the past few thousand years.”—Life Science, 3rd ed., Bob Jones University Press
What you see while you are “mating” will determine your offspring’s color and pattern. Hmm, no wonder so many animals who mate where there’s grass and trees are striped! And camels do look kind of like pyramids, when you think about it. This theory is probably not as applicable to humans as it is to other animals, but this is apparently a core doctrine of biblical genetics. It’s being put out there in a high school biology supplemental book, Of Pandas and People.
HR69 note: So in other words, if you are doing as good Christians should, covering wifey up with a heavy wool blanket, with a hole in the middle of it, so you can get no pleasure from the act, sticking it in for enough strokes to splooge, then pulling it out......IN THE DARK......would this not mean that the offspring would be BLACK?
So if this is true, WHITE CHRISTIANS who have sex in THE DARK are going to have BLACK BABIES!
:jaw:
The KKK? They were/are actually pretty nice guys. Some say they were even kind of heroic. “[The Ku Klux] Klan in some areas of the country tried to be a means of reform, fighting the decline in morality and using the symbol of the cross. Klan targets were bootleggers, wife-beaters, and immoral movies. In some communities it achieved a certain respectability as it worked with politicians.”—United States History for Christian Schools, 3rd ed., Bob Jones University Press. (If you look at the KKK website you’ll see by its slogan that it concurs: “Bringing a Message of Hope and Deliverance to White Christian America! A Message of Love NOT Hate!” You can even get yourself a T-shirt with a similar sentiment.)
The oceans are salty because God made them that way. A reader left a comment on a Society Pages article about her days of being schooled with a fundamentalist curriculum. “I was schooled by A Beka books when I was little…One thing that has always stood out in my memory…is that when I was learning about the oceans, the book asked, ‘Why are the oceans salty?’ The only answer it gave me, as a young and curious child, was ‘Because God made them that way.’ ”
The Great Depression? It was really just the blahs. The Great Depression was exaggerated by artists and writers to advance a socialist propaganda, according to some high-school textbooks. “Perhaps the best known work of propaganda to come from the Depression was John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath…Other forms of propaganda included rumors of mortgage foreclosures, mass evictions, and hunger riots and exaggerated statistics representing the number of unemployed and homeless people in America.”—United States History: Heritage of Freedom, 2nd ed., A Beka Book
Fire-breathing dragons may once have roamed the earth. “[Is] it possible that a fire-breathing animal really existed? Today some scientists are saying yes. They have found large chambers in certain dinosaur skulls…The large skull chambers could have contained special chemical-producing glands. When the animal forced the chemicals out of its mouth or nose, these substances may have combined and produced fire and smoke.”—Life Science, 3rd ed., Bob Jones University Press, 2007
The Trail of Tears had a special purpose. “God used the ‘Trail of Tears’ to bring many Indians to Christ,” says one text. And vaguely related: “Through the Negro spiritual, slaves developed patience to wait on the Lord and discovered that the truest freedom is freedom from the bondage of sin.”
The moon exists for the same reason the sea is salty. We’ll let an image of Science 4 Christian Schools explain. Note the strategic use of the word “guesses” for how scientists think the moon began. We’re keeping the comment at the end from the writer at 11points.com, just because.
Climate change is not really an issue. “God provided certain ‘checks and balances’ in creation to prevent many of the global upsets that have been predicted by environmentalists.”
Bottom line: Darwin was just plain wrong. That should be obvious by this point in this post. One book series mocks evolution with cartoons, and claim it’s a faith-based belief. As one of many textbooks succinctly states: “[S]cientific evidence proved the Darwinian theory of evolution was false.” —Science 1107, Accelerated Christian Education
The above "curriculum" provides our society with stupid people.
Like Elvis.
