Dave just let this out on Facebook:

Statement From Dave Lombardo Regarding Slayer Australian Tour 2013

I want to personally apologize to all of our fans in Australia who have bought tickets for the tour expecting to see me in my usual place on the drums.

So that you all know the truth, as of the end of the business day on February 14th, I was notified that I would not be drumming for the tour in Australia. I’m saddened, and to be honest I am shocked by the situation.

Last year, I discovered 90% of Slayer’s tour income was being deducted as expenses including the professional fees paid to management, costing the band millions of dollars and leaving 10% or less to split amongst the four of us. In my opinion, this is not the way a band’s business should operate. I tried rectifying it by letting my band mates know, and Tom and I hired auditors to figure out what happened, but I was denied access to detailed information and the necessary back up documents.

I spent the Christmas and New Year holidays realizing I had toured all over the world in 2012, but yet, had not been paid (except a small advance) or provided a proper accounting for a full year's sweat and blood. On top of this, I was told that I would not be paid until I signed a long form contract which gave me no written assurance of how much or on what basis management would deduct commissions, nor did it provide me access to the financial budgets or records for review. It also forbade me to do interviews or make statements having to do with the band, in effect a gagging order.

Last Monday, I sat down with Kerry and Tom to rehearse for Australia and to propose a new business model that I felt was the best way forward for Slayer to confidently protect itself so we could do what we do best . . . play for the fans. Kerry made it clear he wasn’t interested in making changes and said if I wanted to argue the point, he would find another drummer. On Thursday, I arrived at rehearsals at 1 pm as scheduled, but Kerry did not show. Rather, at 6:24 pm I received an email from the lawyers saying I was being replaced for the Australian dates.

I remain hopeful that we can resolve our issues. But once again, I sincerely apologize to all of our fans in Australia who spent their money expecting to see the 3 of us original Slayer members.
I look forward to seeing you in the future.

Sincerely,
Dave Lombardo

Unlike the Bill Ward situation, Dave has been a reliable member of Slayer, and has only left the band twice before...both times for legit reasons.

I am just glad I got to see him this past summer with Slayer. I have seen them 3 times (once with Bostaph....twice with Lombardo), and Lombardo is a major reason why I am a fan of the band at all.

Fucking mix art and commerce and shit gets fucked up every time!!

Slayer is done...

And, BTW, I've fallen for the three original members thing and it sucks...

And the moral of this story is that if you want more money, don't be a drummer...

I wonder since he left & came back that is why he doesn't have the access that Karry would. You kind of lose that seniority & ownership of the band when you leave and come back later. I have a feeling Tom & Kerry are getting paid just fine and Tom was just trying to humor Dave hoping it would blow over. Bullshit way to treat a guy either way. His drums are signature to the Slayer sound. Never really like Kerry or Jeff anyways. Both self absorbed assholes (especially Jeff).

If you want more money own the publishing rights. That's of course if people actually want to buy your songs.

He should go play for Black Sabbath now. :hee:

Funny thing is....he IS a major part of the Slayer sound. Getting rid of him is the same as sawing off your foot.

Though it is a bunch of BS....any band on earth would LOVE to have him, so he can go literally play for anyone who wants him.

Slayer is only hurting themselves by doing this.

Wonder if they are going to try to get Bostaph back now. There is no comparison. While Bill Ward was replaceable for the current studio record and few live shows, Lombardo is a vital part of the Slayer sound.

In fact, he is a major reason why I came to appreciate Slayer in recent years. They used to be too over-the-top-with-a-bunch-of-screaming for me.

I saw them in 1999 with Bostaph. I was impressed with the band's tightness. But then I saw them again in 2004, and with friends of mine ranting about Lombardo, I noticed a BIG difference.

As I said above, Lombardo is a major reason why I like them at all. Without him, I am not going to really care about them that much.

Not many drummers (if any) can even approach his abilities on the skins.

That is a damn shame . This has all the makings of lawsuits and counter lawsuits .
Dave Lombardo is a powerhouse drummer , and I agree , a very integral part of the classic Slayer sound .
I saw Slayer and Overkill in literally a small rink called the Skate Palace in late 1987 . It was the " Reign In Blood " tour . It was completely overcrowded and loud as fuck but , dare I say , a HELLuva good show . Saw them years later at two different OZZFests with Black Sabbath . Yep , they were still fierce .

Does Slayer really "generate millions" every year?

I'm sure they do. Not in the States but they are huge in other parts of the World

Interesting. All the guys in Slayer are worth around 15 million apiece.

There is certainly something fishy going on if Lombardo gets fired for wanting an audit of the band's finances.

Very sad when 4 dudes ripping up some kick ass music becomes some huge corporate conglomerate bullshit business machine. Just like Dave complaining about band meetings having more than 10 people attend. WTF? They start getting real money, managers on top of managers, lawyers, accountants, producers, handlers, publicists, and everything else you can slap a title on and the band mentality goes away. Sucks.

A lot of the problem is a source of money attracts opportunists and unless the people who are in charge of the money are savvy to that fact, the number of leaches grows. It's much like the boom towns in the old west. If gold was found everyone came in. A few miners would do well but most never made any money. The money was made in supplying the miners with the equipment they needed, or selling them booze, taking their money in gambling operations, or selling them a fuck. Stores, saloons, and whore houses popped up. As time goes on the carpetbaggers and lawyers come in if the town hasn't dried up. The longer the wealth is in one area the more complicated the shady mess becomes. That's why Washington DC is what it is today. One big piggy feeding trough. The entertainment industry has it's vultures ready to take advantage of the next highly paid star. That pet psychiatrist that charges $6,000/hr is just waiting for the next $20 million per picture pet lover to come to town.

One of the very best heavy bands that has ever existed - they really better than this.

Without Lombardo (or Hanneman) I can't imagine that the new record will be great. 'World Painted Blood' was patchy, and I'd hate them to put out something at half strength, because Slayer is one band where it has to be full tilt.

Still, this 'reunion' gave us 'Christ Illusion', one of Slayer's very best records..........
