I will say this time and time again....

Dirty Movies is the most underated track in Van Halen's entire library of music. Maybe one of my top 5 Van Halen songs ever! I did a search just now to see if there was a thread dedicated to this masterpiece and nothing came back. So let's celebrate this unique gem from Van Halen's tour de force "Fair Warning".

Dirty Movies has always been among my top 5 Van Halen songs. It has everything. Great vocals/lyrics, guitar riffs, bass, and backing vocals. Dirty Movies has that great down and dirty vibe that only Van Halen could create.

Everything turns out all right

Now they believe it
Now that they've seen it
Go see baby now! Ah, ha-ha!

I stand corrected. "Fabulous shadow" it is. I can't believe I have been listening and singing that line incorrectly for 30 years.

I can't make those two sound remotely similar in my head.

I can't believe Dave would have the "hots" for a chick with a mustache!

I always took it to mean that Dave had the hots for a "chick" with DSL. DSL that were so pronounced that they created a shadow.

I think your premise is flawed, with so many considering Fair Warning their favorite CVH album, it is an appreciation of the whole - not just unchained or ? song ..

I do think the lyrics were touching on a then recent trend toward porn and selling of sex on film as a commodity, which was cheesy films in the 70's with few 'stars' and FF to today - with internet filled / overflowing with porn, or g/f pics - even sexting among kids/tweens ..

seems a cautionary tale in hindsight (- cross between Warhol 15 min fame, Zepp's Rock n Roll, (tellin' a friend she gonna be Star), and how does a chick get fame w/o talent, just beauty ? sexploitation )

with outstanding music

Most under rated still seems to be Simple Rhyme - that one has it all - GGB never comes up during mention of 1984 either, the video songs get all the attention

all good stuff imho

Dirty Movies is one of my favorite VH songs. I love the passion, the sleaze, and the funkiness of it.

Don't forget HOP, either. It has one of the two great outros on 1984.

Well put. You mean Black Dog though.

Roller Girl in Boogie Nights fits the character you're describing.

Unrelated side note: Oldies station playing DLR's California Girls as I write.

That would be awesome if the outro from "one foot out the door" became a physical song. I love the outro, it's my favorite part!

Naturally I fucking BLAST that track. So bad ass and just about to go off the rails, VH at their finest and one of the best ends to an album ever. An underrated classic that delivers in a perfectly drunken swaggering way, in so short of a running time, what so many imitators could not accomplish in an entire album, I SAY!

I love the song, don't get me wrong. But if I had to pick a least favorite song on fair warning that would be my selection. With that being said "one foot" is still better than anything Sammy Hagar ever did with Van Halen.

Least favorite on Fair Warning would be "Sinners Swing." I do like the song. It has good lyrics, great solo, etc. But it is the only song I may occasionally skip over on FW.

Ah yes... Dirty Movies i usually say is my top VH song. But always a hard call.
And never skip Sinners Swing! but understandable when kids in the car. Think it's only the 1 or 2 times Dave ever swore in VH song.
