Worked On Led Zeppelin IV And ROLLING STONES Exile On Main Street

Producer/engineer Andy Johns, who worked on such classic albums as Led Zeppelin IV and the ROLLING STONES Exile On Main Street, has passed away, this according to Noise11.com.

Johns was one of several family members who were sound engineers. His older brother is Glyn Johns (THE WHO, EAGLES, ROLLING STONES, LED ZEPPELIN) and his nephew is Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams, KINGS OF LEON, KAISER CHIEFS, Rufus Wainwright).

Andy Johns career began as a tape operator in Olympic Studios in London working with Rod Stewart, JETHRO TULL and HUMBLE PIE.

From 1968-1973 Johns worked with the ROLLING STONES and captured the sounds for Exile On Main Street from Keith Richards’ mansion in the South of France in the early 70s. After moving to Los Angeles he worked with Ozzy Osbourne, Joe Satriani and VAN HALEN.

Most recently his works included the Steve Miller Band's 2011 Let Your Hair Down and CHICKENFOOT's 2009 album. He also worked with such acts as GODSMACK, CINDERELLA and BLIND FAITH. R.I.P

When you hear somebody referred to as "legendary" in the music industry, it's usually a musician. There are only a few who have reached that status making other people's records sound better.

Andy Johns was certainly one of them. Rest in Peace :(

Totally. Only way I was ever able to make an album sound better was by turning up the volume. RIP

R.I.P.

Some legendary albums wouldn't have sounded the same without Mr Andy Johns, just as they wouldn't have without his brother Glyn. And they wouldn't have been as legendary without his engineering either.
