Tuesday brings news that a "Star Wars" actor dies decades after playing Darth Vader's commander aboard the evil character's battle ship, the Death Star. Actor Richard LeParmentier died at the age of 66, TMZ reports April 16.
Another report states the actor died at his home in Austin.
LeParmentier portrayed Admiral Motti who was famously force-choked as he met with Vader and his other commanders in the 1977 flick. When Motti referenced his boss' "sorcerer's ways" and "sad devotion to that ancient Jedi religion," Vader viewed his mocking as a sure sign he was unfaithful to his mission. In the famous scene "Star Wars" fans will never forget, the Imperial commander was choked without being physically touched. Vader used "the force" to crush his windpipe.
It's unknown how Richard LeParmentier died. He appeared in over 50 films and also played the role of a Lieutenant Santino in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." He was successful in finding work as a screenwriter in Britain, the report went on to say. His last screen role was in 1992. He made several appearances at sci-fi conventions throughout his career.
The "Star Wars" actor was married to Sarah Douglas, who portrayed Ursa in "Superman" and "Superman II."
