Well...if for no other reason than to take a break from dissecting the VH Stone Festival show...I'm sad to report that Chrissy Amphlett has died...
Chrissy Amphlett, the raunchy lead singer of the Australian rock band Divinyls whose hit "I Touch Myself" brought her international fame in the early 1990s, died at her home in New York City on Sunday. She was 53 years old.
"Christine Joy Amphlett succumbed to the effects of breast cancer and multiple sclerosis, diseases she vigorously fought with exceptional bravery and dignity," her musician husband Charley Drayton said in a statement.
"Chrissy's light burns so very brightly. Hers was a life of passion and creativity. She always lived it to the fullest. With her force of character and vocal strength, she paved the way for strong, sexy, outspoken women," he said.
Amphlett was an icon of Australian music renowned for her distinctive singing voice as well as edgy stage performances clad in school uniforms and fishnet stockings.
She was born on Oct. 25, 1959, in Geelong city in Victoria state, cousin of 1960s Australian pop star Patricia Amphlett, known as "Little Pattie," who was at her New York bedside on Sunday.
Amphlett met musician Mark McEntee at a concert at the Sydney Opera House in 1980 and the pair formed the Divinyls.
The band released six albums between 1982 and 1996, peaking in 1991 with the success of the single "I Touch Myself," which reached No. 1 in Australia, No. 4 in the United States and No. 10 in Britain.
The band reformed briefly in 2006. Amphlett announced in 2007 that she had multiple sclerosis and in 2010 that she had cancer.
Amphlett was also an actress who made her movie debut in the 1982 Australian film "Monkey Grip," which featured several Divinyls tracks.
She later played Russell Crowe's mother in the Australian stage production of the musical "Blood Brothers."
Crowe sent a Twitter message after Amphlett's death.
"Dear Chrissie, The last time I saw you was in the Botanic Gardens, loving life and reciting verse. That's how I'll remember you, your boy, R," it said.

Perhaps if she had touched herself more often she would have found the breast lumps sooner.
Not to be callous...but I'm just saying that you can't underestimate the value of frequent breast exams, ladies.

Sometimes the material just writes itself and I just can't stop myself.
But there is a serious side to that post....just presented in a humorous albeit borderline inappropriate manner.

In honor of her, I will touch myself. LOL :wanker::banme:
Oddly enough, "I Touch Myself" was the name of the first porn video I ever bought. It was basically a VHS tape with women masturbating.

Cancer SUCKS!!!
RIP Chrissy
I'm probably one of the few people in the US who had ever heard of the Divinyls before "I Touch Myself", since some of their earlier material got radio airplay up here in the days of pre-corporate homogenized radio.

As far as the big hit goes though, the girlfriend I had at the time really liked the song. REALLY liked it, if you know what I mean. :sex: So much that I really haven't been able to listen to that CD since we broke up... too damn many memories. But when it was good, geezus it was damn good.
So thanks for that Chrissy.... and rest in peace :(

That, of course, stinks. RIP.
I'm familiar with that one song and that is it. Were there any others to speak of?

Kind of like watching Tina Turner struggling to get out of Daphne's (from Frazier) body.
Funny how some artists felt there was an added responsibility to act out their lyrics in early MTV days. Cy Curnin from the Fixx had that down to a science.

What can I say, Chicks dig me.
One day back in the mid 1990s' a bunch of us (my friends) were sitting around drinking after work, it was winter we were in the garage of a friend, door open freezing drinking beers after work, motors and rough-in framing, equipment all around us, we all had mustaches and long hair and varrying shades of construction blue jean jackets, pants and those giant pornstar mustaches on all scraggly.
And one of the wives walk up to p/u her husband and says, holy shit!! what the hell is this, a Wild Bill look alike competition..lol
We all laughed and looked around and dammit if we all didn't look like variouse aged worn out beat up dragged thru the briar patch, Wild Bills.
Good times.

Rest In Peace Chrissy :(
I also have never heard All Pretty Things, itīs a good song.
I did some search, all I could find is that The Divinyls played at the Homebake Annual Australian Festival 2007, featuring an all australian lineup.
Here is the link http://homebake.com.au/2007/
On that page on the right "Homebake on cd" you can read on the bottom: "Make sure to stay tuned for the next special limited edition CD release which will be issued with The Sydney Morning Herald in December 2007."
Well, I also found an old add, from an australian guy selling an used CD with All Things Pretty and another songs, pointing out that the CD was released in 2007 with the local newspaper. So maybe he was selling that CD from the Homebake Festival.? I donīt know.
Maybe some australian RA members could help to find more information about that song, I would like to know who wrote it.

"Boys In Town" was used in an Australian film called Monkey Grip, which that video is taken from and featured Chrissy's acting debut. Here's the extended version of it -- my god, the nostalgia.

Heya Mark, great to see ya around. Hope you and family been well.
Yeah, I've been listening to nothing but Divinyls over the last few days. They had some real awesome raw talent.
Mate, you've just hit the nail on the head - it's a massive loss to all of us here. Just one of those things where you've always liked and appreciate something, but never been madly into them...but then something like this (sadly, at least on my part) changes you in a major way. (And I don't recall her being ill - just goes to show some news out there is totally worthwhile)
She will be missed terribly.
Enjoy your ANZAC DAY, mate. I'll definitely have one in her memory.
