I see these giant planes at March AFB. I am amazed every time they lift off because it's a miracle these big bastards fly at all. Mind boggling something so large, so heavy, and going so slow can lift off into the air.

The Boeing 747-400 is a truly magnificent bird and it's such a shame to see one go down like this...

Are these bigger than those C17 cargo planes? I think that's what they're called.

This is what I see takeoff at March AFB.

The 747-400 to my knowledge is much bigger than the McDonnel Douglas C-17. The Lockheed C-5 Galaxies are fucking HUGE though.

I think you're right. The C-5 are what they carry tanks in I think. We kinda need Nick in this thread.

Oh there you are Nick. We posted at same time. Was gonna ask which plane was bigger but I found this comparing the C17 to the C5. But how do they compare to the 747 in the video?

I'm not an expert on cargo aircraft, but C-5's and C-17's can carry M-1 tanks...

I believe the text at the site said 5 of the 7 dead were from michigan..ETS ?....that is how I would get it serve all your enlistment then plane wreck on the way home.

7 people only in the plane also sounds like this was the return flight of a mission originating in Michigan (airbase personel from Michigan) and that could be why there was so few on board they were all crew and the plane was hauling return cargo ?

Way too high of a incline and probably hit some headwind almost looks like they were going to flip over and the plane stalled.

Sad dam shame anyway.

Yeah. Definitely from the angle in the clip they are going way too steep. A poster online said it might have been a cargo shift....like stuff wasn't secured and everything slid to the rear enough to make it way out of balance. Weird how in the video for a brief second it just stops mid air and holds. Suspended animation or what not. That was probably the last split millisecond the guys thought they had a chance.

I hate when people say this, ...at least they went fast. But they did. Easy to watch that clip & not think there are actually 7 lives inside. It's just a big hunk of machinery.

C-5 is almost the largest plane that flies I believe....

I have only flown on one Jumbo jet. I loved it. Like walking into a rather large room and 10 hours later you walk out into Heathrow.

Very stable.

And I agree as well. 7 people are going home. Permanently.

I hope I never see anything like that in person.

Never was

At that runway jumbo's have to take off and land at an angle steeper than a commercial version is designed for.
Looking at the video and w the armored cargo in large distribution it is likely a cargo shift occurred causing the plane to do an elevation stall and so low to the ground no time for pilots to recover. The cargo master was one of the 7 on board who perished so answers may take longer to determine.
