This HAS to be the grossest food ever!!! I just heard about it a few months ago. Oh god, so gross. It's called Casu Marzu. It's rotten cheese filled with maggots.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casu_marzu

This sentance in the article is particulary fascinating: "Because the larvae in the cheese can launch themselves for distances up to 15 centimetres (6 in) when disturbed, diners hold their hands above the sandwich to prevent the maggots from leaping." :sick0020:

Since we have a thread for good food, I wanna know about gross food. Post pics if you happed to eat something most people find disgusting.

Any sandwich I have ever ordered from Sonic. I swear that place makes Hot n Now seem like a gourmet restaurant. Of course any fast food place makes me sick anymore, I can't believe I ever used to eat that shit.

I put mustard on chocolate chip cookies. But only the cheap hard ones. It tastes like a corn dog with chocolate chips. Some people might find that disgusting.
Liver. Nasty stuff. Quite disgusting.

I have to agree about fast food. It's not exactly the freshest goods they use. Often one just wonders: I wonder how long it's been standing there. What is it?

It's just like with sex, if you look at it and the sight makes you go: where the hell has this been, just don't put it in your mouth

The mustard thing isn't gross in itself, it's just an unusual combination.

Yeah, liver, SO disgusting!!!

Yeah Envy, that cheese might take top prize. Nasty. Also if you watched Survivor they ate that duck egg with a formed duckiling in it. Balut. Blech!

Something me & my mom would eat when I was a kid home for a sick day everyone thinks is gross but actually is delicious. She would melt cheese on top of a slice of bread by putting it on the broiler rack of the oven. Then we would have a small dish of the juice from canned peaches to dip the cheese bread in to. So yummy. Nothing gross there. Just a weird combination. But it was good. Although maybe part of how good I remember it was just spending the day with mom all to myself.

The mental image of a peanut butter, jelly, ketchup and cheetos sandwich still makes me want to fucking vomit.

My girlfriend's adopted son eats peanut butter and mayo sandwiches. She used to eat grease sandwiches before the doctor made her stop. Bread dipped in bacon grease.

I put potato chips in sandwiches and french fries in cheeseburgers but that's good stuff, Maynard.

I still put a few fries in my burgers to this day, that's actually a good combination.

PB&J and Cheetos on the other hand....

I still allow myself a Big Mac once in a blue moon (and a box of McSalt with a few fries thrown in, natch). A way guilty pleasure and total gut bomb later, but it tastes so good in the moment.

I draw the line at the McRib, though. That shit's nasty.

I bounce between the double cheeseburger and the McChicken from the dollar menu. I like fries but I only get them once in a while because of the grease factor.

It's usually the occasional Big Mac with no lettuce and fries with no salt for me, but this month it's been more often than should be. Class all day and then work at night most days.

I just don't have the energy to prepare anything at the end of a long day....and my digestion is paying the price...

As bad as McDonalds is, it's STILL better than Burger King. That shit barely qualifies as food. Sounds like Sonic falls into the same category, but we don't have many of those up here. Burger King is the worst of the worst, but all fast food should be avoided as much as possible. I've said it before, but if it HAS to be fast food, 9 times out of 10 I'll pick Chipotle (but that's for another thread...)

I love french fries, but the ones from McDonalds are so filled with salt that they make my lips are wrinkled. I think they salt that much on purpose.
I like homemade the best.

That wby I order them with no salt. Then I'm guaranteed they are fresh, and I have control over the seasoning.

Unfortunately the last meat I ate before going veg was liver. I still regret that that was the last thing I ate. I don't know how this was prepared, I know that it had a very strong, sweet taste.
How do you prepare it to kill the taste?

I am not that visual when it comes to food. My spinach soup looks awful but I know it's just leaves of a plant.
I am more interested in what it is I am eating. I don't think there is any vegetable that I find gross. I may think it doesn't taste good, but not that it is disgusting to eat.
When it comes to dairy products and stuff that I find semi-gross, I often go on texture and smell.

Here is a pretty funny video of some americans trying surströmming

I never worked at McDonalds or any other burger joint, but I did work at a fish & chips place back in the 80s and was told to salt the fries because it absorbed the grease and helped them last longer under the heat lamp. Even so, I tried to keep it to a minimum. And usually none when I was cooking them for myself. Considering there would be plenty of sodium in the ranch/bleu cheese/BBQ sauce I was dipping them in, the extra salt was never needed anyway.

YES!!! And why is everything from McDonald's swimming in the shit?

Everything from everywhere is swimming in the shit. They order in lunch a lot at my office or others do when they come to sell to us, and rarely can I eat it since it has that shit slathered everywhere. Then I have to eat at McD's since it's the only thing in walking distance except for that nasty hotdog stand in front of Home Depot.

My parents never made that. My mom isn't even Croatian :) But maybe my grandparents did. I'll ask my dad.

The one thing often eaten in Croatia that I find disgusting is sea urchin caviar. The locals often ear it directly from the sea urchin. It looks like this:

I just asked my dad and they did eat bakalar around christmas but they didn't dry it themselves, they bought it. Cause there is no cod in Adriatic sea, he said :)
But he says it wasn't that bad.
