Apart from the comic book theme Destroyer has no “concept” therefore favoring these 4 Jewish kids while leaving them out of the inner circle of 70’s prog rock. Destroyer is regarded as being the most successful (in terms of sales) metal record to ever be recorded by Jewish people of the 70’s era. The record itself sucked lacking much creativity and imagination but the buyers of this record didn’t care seeing they have no creativity and imagination themselves.

Detroit Rock City

When 4 Jewish kids from New York sing about life in Detroit you know you’ve been had. The lyrics are self-repeating and just as superfluous:
Get up -everybody's gonna move their feet
Get down - everybody's gonna leave their seat

Informative or what!? Detroit Rock City speaks of a societal fuck up who feels ”uptight” on an average weekend night and therefore needs to drive fast (95 plus) on our nations public highways with little regard to public safety all because this twat can “get up” or “get down.” Fuck him. He does confess he has been drinking and possibly smoking dope while on his journey to fuck knows where (the song doesn’t say). Now were these four Jewish kids attempting to take a relative commonplace interpretation of life itself here? That is a question for scholars and philosophers. As fate would have it this kid’s irresponsibility to adhere to societal norms and laws leads to his untimely yet timey (at midnight exactly) death thus leaving the listener in a state of to refer that any movement of the human organism as a response to failing to get up or down only creates a field of action and implies an act which, so to speak that the get up or get down did not alter the this fuck up’s environment which [he] so desperately despised. Granted behavior of this sort may stem from being under the influence of alcohol and DRUGZ but the relation is not that of elicitation resolve. These four Jews know their shit, people. Pay heed.

King Of The Night Time World

Here, the theme of social isolation is further expounded because living in white suburbia is a “drag” as is going to school and shit. The protagonist of the song obviously is suffering from a delusional disorder that he is a “king” of some mythological “night time world” that welcomes night time queen pussy and no, no those Times Square queens – at least I don’t think so. The tune sucks anyway.

God Of Thunder

God Of Thunder is really a tune on date rape and how it is justified under Greek lore. Behavior of this sort is the result of male conditioning of the whole having a penis that resides on a cyclic oscillation and the physical/emotional responses it brings. The rapist here seriously believes he is a lord of a wasteland when is objective reality he is nothing more than a sexual predator. As Dr. Bullshit er, I mean, Phil describes:

”Sexual predators belief to have sense of entitlement, while possessing low self-esteem with a need for power and control. They lack empathy and inability to form intimate relationships and would rather engage in deviant and aberrant sexual behavior.”

Eh, fuck this. <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:LatentStyles DefLockedState="false" DefUnhideWhenUsed="true" DefSemiHidden="true" DefQFormat="false" DefPriority="99" LatentStyleCount="267"> <w:LsdException Besides, you should be more offended how Destroyer is steaming pile of shit that borders of misogyny and rape. This whole record stinks.

True or not, as an opening sentence that gets 10/10 from me for the pin-my-stripes-to-the-wall and let-me-get-at-em attitude ...

Yech. The dichotomy between the three or four good tunes these knuckleheads came up with and the general stench of their public posturing was so close to the self entitlement of the equally misogynist Eagles that you eventually wished to turn yer head and puke.

No small wonder why I headed for the ditch, discovering local bands like Charlie Pickett & The Eggs around that time.

Well, if you're going to bring obscure Florida bands into this, you might remember this little band out of Gainesville. Bernie Leadon's brother was in the band, and the singer was some guy named Tom.... something or other.... wonder what happened to that guy?

Destroyer sucks. Everybody's jerking off to that album saying "whoa, that's genius!!"
No it's not.
If I had to choose, I'd pick Rock & Roll Over over Destroyer.
It's still no genius, but at least, it's got some Rock N'Roll on it.
Ezrin was grate with Cooper, but with Kiss???
Destroyer, The Elder, Revenge???
The first one sucks ass so bad, but it sold very well (happy for them)
The second one was a flop, no wonder.
The third one has been released at least two years too late.

Sorry if I hurt some Fraroc feewings here, that's just my opinion. Don't slit your wrists.

I prefer Kiss when they play straight up rock 'n' roll - the records before and immediately after 'Destroyer' are consequently preferable to my ears. I sense that with the big production, however, 'Destroyer' would have been very much an 'of the moment' record in 1976 which stood out from the pack.

Nothing wrong with Destroyer. Detroit Rock City, King of the Nightime World, Do You Love Me.....all rock and roll. You get some overproduced stuff like Flaming Youth and God of Thunder. Beth is a throwaway ballad.

Good album.

That's not fair. I like Destroyer (it has some lame moments, but so did every album up KISS ALIVE II. After that, the wheels pretty much fell off.) and I believe Marquee Moon is a brilliant album that holds up to this very day. In fact, it was so far ahead of it's time that it could be re-released today to college radio (minus any hint that it was issued in 1977) and become a hit.

Is Tom Verlaine Jewish?

To say time and time again how much KISS suck is ridiculous. So I'll give them credit.

They wrote some of the most fucking unlistenable gawd-awful shit monotonous shit tunes ever to be recorded.
The majority of their songs were misogynist in nature and glorified rape
Not one of them was well crafted in their instrumental abilities
Their endless array of Chinese made "merchandise" junk that fuckwitted KISS fans love to buy

And oh yeah, they did write Beth the closet they ever came to having a legitimate "hit" on their otherwise grubby hands.

Fuck them, if you like KISS then you also must like prison sex.

Is Tom Verlaine Jewish?

To say time and time again how much KISS suck is ridiculous. So I'll give them credit.

Wasn't "Prison Sex" a song by Tool? :O

Anywhoo............I agree KISS is aboot the least talented of the 70's glam bands......as far as technical prowess goes....those boys knew how to write a catchy tune.....took 'em a few records to figure it out...........

Yup....Gene and Paul wrote pretty lame lyrics....no STAIRWAY in their catalog ;)

THey were marketing genius' though......they laughed all the way to the bank...and still do

Tom Verlaine might not be "jewish"...but he's a mongoloid.....

Ace Frehley was the best part of that band

Look, you either like KISS or you don't. My personal opinion is that many people who do like them tend to go overboard in their worship, while a lot of those who hate them go overboard in their hatred. I've been a lifelong fan, and long since stopped really caring about those who dismiss them with the astute criticism that "Kiss Sucks", much the same way as I long have since grown tired of the ridiculous money grubbing by Gene- such as dressing up fakes in Ace and Peter's makeup, and things like KissKaskets.

However, those who want to tell me that I need to "grow up" because I like KISS really ought to do so themselves. That's the kind of shit you do in high school- "Your music sucks..blah blah blah." Who cares what you think about what I listen to? I mean, I HATE (with a capital H) U2, but they've certainly been around long enough, sold enough albums and have enough fans, that it makes me sound pretty stupid to say to someone, "You're stupid because you like U2. U2 sucks."

I wouldn't say that anyone who currently enjoys KISS needs to "grow up", however, that band ties enormously to my youth and I do feel that I personally have grown out of them. I was a huge fan as a kid and I never got to see them as I was just a kid. Seeing them in '96 was the ultimate closure on the subject of that band. I've paid less and less attention to them as the years have rolled by because it is magicless and half faux. If people can find enjoyment in what that band is currently doing, then more power to 'em! For me, it's all about the early years, if at all anymore.

To me, 40 years after they started, here's how I've explained KISS to the younger generations....

To really understand KISS, I believe you really have to have lived through the '74-'83 years....

And I don't mean simply being born during those years, I mean to being cognizant of the music world and knowing what's what..... 'Cause KISS in the mid to late '70's was simply a phenomenon....

To a kid who at 11 years old in 1975 when Alive! came out, it was nothing like anyone had ever seen... It put Alice Cooper's theatrical show to shame, with all due respect to Alice....

The stage show was fantastic, with all of the pyro and flash pots, not to mention the blood and fire from Gene....

When you went to a KISS show, you didn't EXPECT any virtuoso musical performances.... All four of them are average musicians, with Ace being the best of the four.... Peter is more of a jazz drummer, Paul and Gene are simply mediocre guitarists, IMO anyway.... But it was the combination of the music and the stage show that made it a must-see for several years.....

They were on every magazine cover, musical or not, for several years.... Nowadays, most people chuckle at the KISS marketing scheme, but back then, they were the first.....

But the most fascinating part about KISS, even having said all that, was that NO ONE knew what they looked like for 10 years !! That is absolutely unheard and could NEVER be accomplished nowadays....

So I can see people, 40 years after the fact, being very blah about KISS... I certainly concur that their act has gotten very tired, although they can still fill the seats at a very respectable rate.....

But if you've been there from the beginning, you'd understand that it was once very different in the music world, and KISS was right up on top for quite a long time.....

Agreed on the '96 tour....

I saw them at this show in Milan, it was a fantastic night....

Exactly. If you weren't around when it was all starting, you have no idea how huge KISS were. They were everywhere. When they were on the Paul Lynde Halloween special, all the kids on my block watched it, and talked about it the next day. We'd put the albums on and mime to it, pretending we were KISS. You went out dressed as your favorite KISS member on Halloween too. I don't see any rock bands today that command the attention KISS did in the 70s. Even that douche Bieber isn't as visible.

A lot of it is because of the world we live in now. There's a lot more exposure with the internet, youtube, smartphones. Music isn't delivered to kids in albums anymore, just downloads of one song for 99 cents. Back then, you'd go to the record store and see the new KISS album on display, and you had a large record jacket with cool shit on it.

I'm beginning to think this place needs a "That 70's thread".

Thems were the good ol' days.

Yep. There was a new episode of Counting Cars (my new favorite show) on the History channel last night, and Danny found a 1977 Dodge Tradesman van (for $1800!) he redid as a gift for a band mate. Christ, the brain cells I lost inside of those things in the high school parking lot and beyond...probably as well as anything explains my peculiar vocational choices ever since.

I know, I know, nostalgia doesn't do anyone much good. But you have to admit, 12x12 album covers displayed terrific artwork, the tv shows hold up to this very day and people seemed just a bit more sophisticated and friendlier.

I met him in Erie last week too. Cool dude. Showed him pics of my buggy (which is ten times nicer, and better built than the one he did) and he loved it. By the way, he had a smokin' hot little spinner with him!
