Yeah, it used to be that off-year elections were yawn inducing, but maybe not so much this year.

Some things to watch:

1) Having legalized weed last year, Colorado now votes on how to tax it.

2) GMO labeling on the ballot in Washington state. MonSatan and the other frankenfood producers lied their way to victory in Collieforneea last year. They have dropped a shit load of money in this state trying to do the same thing. Will they get away with it twice? This has HUGE national implications, both on the GMO front if it succeeds, and the question of how ANYBODY can fight against Shittizens United enabled hyper-corporatization of elections, if it fails.

3) A couple of governors races.... Jabba the Christie in NJ is sadly expected an easy victory. And up the road a little ways in Virginia, voters have the "Hobson's choice" of Terry McUseless vs the Vaginal Probe CBN Puppet lunatic Coochinelli. God knows I could never bring myself to vote for a piece of shit who helped destroy the Democratic party, but then I don't live in Virginia, thank God!

If you got the results on these votes or others with any national implications, put 'em up.....

Cuccinelli's up early here, but the only locations who've turned in their votes are out in the boonies in Wrning-land....

McCauliffe will run away with it when Northern VA and Hampton Roads finishes...

McCauliffe will run away with it when Northern VA and Hampton Roads finishes...

Didn't he have a 6 or 7 point lead depending on the poll that was release a few days ago? If he doesn't win it would be as large a surprise as NJ's Big Boy losing. Christy looks like the statue out front of the Big Boy restaurants. If only we could get him to put on a pair of red and white checkered overalls and run down the boardwalk eating an ice cream cone and carrying a burger on a plate. That would be something!

It's looking like the Libertarian candidate's going to get about 7% of the vote, so it may make the final tally....

Apparently they're still reporting the VA governors race as "too close to call" (though that will change with the larger northern counties final tally) but they already called the Lt. Gov race for the Democrat. I don't even know who that is, but I know the Repuke was a completely insane bigoted wackjob, so I suppose it's good that (apparently) even some Republicans wouldn't vote for him.

And of course Christie was declared the winner in NJ. And Bill Blasio easily defeated the asshole he was up against in NYC. Not really a surprise there, in either case.

Here's some irony for you...... FAUX has apparently projected McAwful as the winner.

Or at least that's what they say over at Democratic Underground. I don't even get that fucking channel. MSNBC is still saying "too close to call", though Chuck Fraud says he's taken over the lead as Fairfax County comes in.

Yup, MSNBC called it now too...

Well.... as I said, I'm no McAuliffe fan, for good reasons, but I guess... congratulations. If for nothing else, then at least the fact that you broke the "streak" of the opposite party (of the White House) always winning the governors race.

Jabba the Christie giving his "victory" speech... invoking Hurricane Sandy more than Guiliani invoked 9/11.

As if the lap band surgery wasn't enough of a flashing red light, this speech was definitely written by Team KKKoch. As much as Jabba is talking about "the next 4 years", don't bet on it, NJ residents. Regardless of when he actually resigns, he ain't going to be governor as of January 2016. He's definitely the KKKoch's chosen puppet for the next election.

Colorado voters overwhelmingly approve state marijuana tax :bong:
By John Ingold
The Denver Post

A state ballot measure imposing special excise and sales taxes on recreational marijuana won handily in statewide voting Tuesday night. This story will be updated throughout the night.

9:12 p.m.: Results on local marijuana tax measures are beginning to come in from around the state.

Voters in Pueblo County are favoring — by 60 percent to 40 percent — a measure to impose a 3.5 percent sales tax on recreational marijuana. In a night of blowouts in favor of marijuana tax issues, that race is about the closest there is.

In Carbondale, voters are favoring their marijuana tax proposal 73 percent to 27 percent. In Fraser, voters are approving marijuana taxes 66 percent to 34 percent. And in the tiny mountain town of Red Cliff, voters are giving a thumbs-up to marijuana taxes 40 to 25. Those tallies aren't percentages; they're vote totals.

Voters in Eagle are narrowly saying no to recreational marijuana stores in their town, according to the Eagle County clerk's Twitter feed. :littlebong:

Don't count 522 out just yet

According to Politico, these figures “represent about a quarter of the state’s 3.9 million” and possibly reflects only 60% of the total votes cast.

The final vote for GMO labeling in Washington state may not be known for several days, possibly more than a week and the race will narrow as expected.

We knew this was going to be a tight race going into election day and we are undeterred by the results. No matter what the final election results are, the movement for GMO labeling in the U.S. is just getting started and strong as ever. Americans will pass strong mandatory state and federal GMO labeling bills by the end of next year. And we’re going to need you to stay positive, focused and committed to get this done!

Labeling of genetically engineered foods is an idea whose time has come here in America and no amount of corporate donations is going to stop it.

Even as we await the results, we must hold firm in the belief that people power will ultimately prevail over the corruption of our democracy by out of control corporations.

Thanks some of the Heroes of Yes on 522!

Today we also wanted to take a moment to thank our incredible partners and allies who helped make this fight possible. Please take a moment to go to their Facebook pages and thank them yourself for helping lead the fight for GMO labeling and making Yes on 522 possible!

Like you, we eagerly await these results and want thank everyone who helped make this campaign possible. Every action, no matter how large or small has helped contribute to a major change in awareness on the issue that major corporations are attempting to use unlimited piles of cash to manipulate our democracy so they can sell us unlabeled genetically engineered foods that have had their genes altered in a laboratory.

We also want to remind you of the power of standing together in the face of insurmountable odds. Earlier this year you helped pass GMO labeling bills in Connecticut and Maine and repealed the Monsanto Protection Act when no one thought it was possible.

Have no doubt that we stand with you and remain eternally committed to stand up for our basic democratic rights, the integrity of our food supply and the future of our planet.

Never doubt that Together We Will Prevail!

In last week's elections, the national media focused tightly on the center ring, where two gubernatorial contests and one mayoral race were spotlighted. The most interesting of these to me was the dazzling, out-of-nowhere, high-wire performance of Bill de Blasio, the free-wheeling, six-foot-seven, progressive populist who shocked New York City's establishment with his landslide victory, becoming mayor of America's biggest metropolis.

That was fun, but so was the clown ring, where two performances deserve our attention. First was a bizarre act of political slapstick that played out far from the Big Apple. Coralville, Iowa, with fewer than 20,000 denizens, had the pleasure of publicly kicking the Koch brothers' kiesters on Election Day! Americans for Prosperity, the chief political arm of the multi-billionaire right-wing extremists, suddenly descended from out of the blue to run a high-dollar campaign against the re-election bids of Coralville's mayor and two city council members. The Koch group snidely called the little town "Iowa's version of Detroit." That was hardly a winning strategy — voters roundly rebuked the rich out-of-towners by voting two-to-one to return all three incumbents to office.

Next came a clown act that was completely odd, troubling, and disgusting. It took place in (where else?) Texas, where a right wing, white Republican won a seat on Houston's community college board of trustees from a district that's predominantly African-American. Dave Wilson literally snuck onto the board by pretending to be black. In his fliers (which had no photos of him, but plenty of smiling African-American faces he took from the internet), Dave claimed to be endorsed by Ron Wilson — a popular black political leader. Actually, though, it was not the black Ron Wilson from Houston who'd endorsed the white Republican. Rather, it was Dave's own cousin, also named Ron — a white guy who lives in Iowa, nearly 1,000 miles away. How clever is that?

After he "won," Dave added to his legacy of political integrity by asserting that all politicians are "out there deceiving voters," so why should he be apologetic?

For the most electrifying display of political deception, however, turn to the third ring of this year's election circus.

There you can see some of America's biggest food conglomerates doing astonishing acrobatic maneuvers to defeat Initiative 522 in Washington state. Put on the ballot by a broad coalition of consumer, organic, environmental and other groups, 522 would have required grocery manufactures that slip genetically manipulated organisms into their products to be honest with shoppers by stating that fact on the food labels.

But the industry ran a dishonest, multimillion-dollar PR campaign to dodge having to be honest about their ingredients. They ran ads to scare voters, falsely claiming that the truth-in-labeling provision would jack up each family's food costs by an average of more than $450.

Especially dishonest (and likely illegal, to boot) was the industry's crude attempt to keep voters from knowing which corporations were funding the attack ads. A front group, the Grocery Manufacturers Association, set up a dummy campaign account it called "Defense of Brand." It was really the "Hiding of Brand" account, for it let big-name food giants put some $11 million into the no-labeling campaign, without revealing their participation or angering consumers.

This dodge, however, didn't work, for GMA was forced by the state attorney general to fess up. Among the biggest donors to this hoax within a hoax within a hoax were General Mills, PepsiCo, Nestle, Coca-Cola and Campbell Soup. With their money and deceptions, they prevailed in the Washington state vote, but the same combo of cash and lies also infuriated half a million more consumers and others who are seeking nothing more than a basic level of corporate integrity and minimal level of control over the food they bring into their homes.

The GMO profiteers can run, but finally they can't hide from the growing number of Americans who are onto them — and literally fed up with their tactics. GMO labeling laws are currently being pushed in some 20 other states.
