Just THREE kids in Camden, N.J. scored college-ready

The new superintendent of public schools in Camden, N.J. announced this week that only three — THREE! — students in the entire district who took the SAT during the 2011-12 academic year scored high enough to qualify as college-ready.

Paymon Rouhanifard learned this incredibly depressing tidbit of knowledge on the “listening tour” he commenced when he took the job in August, reports ABC News. Speaking to the school board and members of the community, he described finding out about the low number as a “kick-in-the-stomach moment.”

It's the system, not the prez. The prez hasn't lectured a class while in office at the high school level for a few years now. The last time I saw Bush in a classroom was 9/11.

Ironically enough, that was the most time he ever spent in a classroom. And not so ironically, he was still the dumbest person in the room.

Figures provided by the Common Institute of New Jersey show that the Camden school district spends $23,770 per student each year. Across the United States, average spending per pupil is a little over $10,000, according to Governing.com.

It can reversed with a lot less money, throw out the union staff, and something called chalk.

Yeah, throw out the "union staff".... and hire a bunch of scab teachers from the Texas Board of "Education", complete with their "textbooks", and soon you'll have an entire country of illiterate morons.

(Instead of just half the country like it is now, because of KKKochsucker states that have already engaged in this blatant stupidity)

It's funny that two of the fucking dumbest guys on this forum that can barely write their own name are making education critiques. BTW, isn't Florida one of the worst states for that?..

You, FORD, and satan makes 3, nick. nick, because you can't add; you shouldn't make education critiques.

Newark and Detroit are examples of shitholes run to the ground by socialist dempon policies. It is especially exemplified in the current education stats.

Now your "critique" was to deflect and dodge the issue based on the messenger. Let me remind you I posted here years ago that a substantive debate cannot happen at this site due to perceived bias and simple common sense getting left out of discussion for the purposes of gamesmanship and political ideology.

Now, without the BCE crap, the Texas connections, and all the other distractions; where was the "Bell Curve" wrong about socialist education?

Don't point to examples of exception because that furthers the argument that government intervention into K-12 education has produced alarmingly low results with regard to academic achievement.

The only achievement I have witnessed after 15 years of watching students fail at higher rates than ever against measured baselines is the achievement of government administration bloating to extremes with regard to state and local education administrative services. School administrators at the state and local levels have higher pay for poor education results pushing the cost per student higher to educate.

You're the education pro on this website. Show me where I missed how teachers and students have become detached from text book, presentation, to testing with regard to socialist education practices.

I'm actually shocked that Canada is still number two, given the complete dragonshit being pushed by the oil industry up there, under the Little Stevie Harper administration. They sure as Hell aren't "socialist" either, especially under this neocon-adian regime.

It's from 2009.

This years figures show Canada still doing well, UK mediocre and the US shit.

It could easily be argued that almost all of the countries above the US in the rankings have more socialist governments way to the left of Obama...

Anyone hear chants of 'We're 36th!, We're 36th!' recently...?

Our current govt is not socialist whatsoever, and far to the right of Obama...more like Bush territory...

BUT...education is a provincial responsibility...

There's no difference between Bush and Obomba besides the train wreck Obomba-scare tax bill which is designed to finish off what's left of the American economy...
