The Bourbon thread

I read this article a couple of years back.

http://www.esquire.com/features/drinking/best-bourbon-0311

I dipped my own bottle at Makers Mark many moons ago. Bought the dipped tumblers too. It was a great tour and I'm still an "ambassador".

I haven't bought in to the small- batch 'craze' because I don't care if it's single-barrel, small-batch, or whatever, all bourbon is distilled from a fermented mash of corn, barley and one other grain, usually rye. After it's been fermented, it's ready to be distilled and most companies use the industry standard double-distilling process before going to the barrel.

Makers Mark uses wheat instead of rye and is the only distillery in Kentucky to vary from the traditional formula.

The absolutely cool thing about bourbon is how the distillers are protective of their yeast. Most use strains that date back a century or more that have been carefully nurtured and in some cases are in a 'locked down vault'.

Personally, I find the clove and wood aromas in Makers Mark make me feel pretty 'highly civilized':hee: when I'm in the airport or on a business trip. Premium.

You have business trips?

I remember one in a hot tub. She was bit on the fat side but, we had the hotel and per Diem's.

So according to the old latin: Seize the lay!

I am sure I sent her home to her husband happier.
