Corporations are simply legal entities that guard the owners from legal liability of the corporation. That means if you own shares of BP you aren't personally liable for their oil disasters. The corporation is still liable and there used to be some good laws in place to curve corporate abuse. The thing is when corporations buy enough influence in the government and take it over, you have fascism. It becomes unchecked greed that usually ends up in wars and lots of dead people.
