Might as well get started on it... :)

Here is the cast and crew.

This is the first proper concrete actual news about Star Wars Episode VII since it was announced that Disney had bought it and were producing new movies.
http://i.imgur.com/ENsyzcb.gif

Most importantly though, the main character is going to be played by ace John Boyega from Attack the Block:

http://i.imgur.com/E9KmOCk.gif

There’s also Max von Sydow, aka Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon, and Oscar Isaac, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for his lead role in last year’s Inside Llewyn Davis.

Meanwhile there’s slightly more dismal news for Star Wars fans of the lady persuasion as of the seven new cast members, just ONE is a woman.

She’s the rather mysterious Daisy Ridley, late of Mr Selfridge and Toast of London:

The internet in general could be said to be “WELL EXCITED” by this news and the fact that this thing is actually happening

Star Wars Episode VII already has a release date of the 18th December 2015.

I think this has a much better chance of working without Lucas.

Who knew Luke Skywalker was 62 already!!??

Max von Sydow is 85!

Even the fucking wookie is 70.

They will be lucky to get through this without someone pulling an Oliver Reed and checking out during production...

Yep. And he doesn't "go into" the Chewbacca walk, that's really the way he walks.

Kenny Baker is really nice as well. Seems kind of frail though, to jam him back in the R2 almost seems like torture.

I just hope Abrams doesn't fuck this up. To use old Spock in the first Star Trek was one thing, to go back to the well again in the second kind of irritated me. Maybe old Spock will show up in Ep 7!

I cringe at the thought of Disney being involved. And I don't really understand why Abrams is the go-to person for all things science fiction these days. If they can't find a way to bring the Irvin Kershner (Empire director) magic and mystique to these new films, they should just quit while they're ahead.

I have no such edit for Episode 2, so my kids are SOL, because I won't watch that shitty movie.

Star Wars 7: Plot details 'leak', with sequel's opening sequence and premise revealed

Star Wars Episode 7 has suffered an unconfirmed plot leak, with a film site claiming that the movie will open with John Boyega and Daisy Ridley's characters discovering Luke Skywalker's severed hand from The Empire Strikes Back and subsequently finding that the Jedi master has gone missing.

*Spoilers ahead (possibly)*

Here's the outline according to Badass Digest :

"Imagine the standard Star Wars crawl, and when it ends the camera pans up to the stars. But instead of a spaceship zooming into frame we see... a hand! A severed hand, tumbling through space. A severed hand gripping a light saber.

That hand falls onto a desert planet, where it is discovered by characters who will be our heroes. One is Daisy Ridley. The other is John Boyega, who is playing someone trying to change his path in life (again, I'm keeping it vague here). They recognize the light saber as a Jedi relic and decide to return it to the proper people.

Their quest takes them off world, and they meet up with Han Solo and Chewbacca, who aren't flying around in the Millenium Falcon anymore but are piloting... well, that could be a spoiler. I'll leave it. Anyway, Han and Chewie recognize the light saber as Luke's, and they say they haven't seen their friend in thirty years, since the events of Return of the Jedi.

So begins a quest to find the missing Jedi Master. Meanwhile, on an ice planet, nefarious forces are building a super weapon, one capable of destroying not planets but entire solar systems..."

The opening sounds deliciously Breaking Bad-esque, with Luke's dismembered hand tumbling through the sky and being discovered by kids, and would be a bold start to JJ Abrams' new chapters.

It echoes that of A New Hope, in which R2-D2 was the foreign body to stumble into the lives of people far away from rebel alliances and trade federations.

The leak, so far completely unconfirmed and likely to remain that way, comes from Devin Faraci, who wrote on Twitter when asked about the synopsis' veracity: "I'm not kidding about this".

It suggests that the younger members of the cast will be in the fore in the movie, with Faraci claiming that he is "hearing again and again that John Boyega owns this move".

Star Wars: Episode VII, which is believed to have been recently filming in the Forest of Dean (possibly for scenes on the Ewok planet of Endor), will go on a two week hiatus in August while Harrison Ford recovers from an ankle injury.

The sequel has a scheduled release date of 18 December, 2015.

How long would it take for a hand to go through space, millions of years, and then it would burn up in the atmosphere?

Well hey it's Star Wars so you cut it some slack like appreciating that the fact that there is no sound in space should be ignored because having the laser zappy sounds is so much cooler than reality.

Anyhoo maybe there is some exposition that explains it. After LOST though there is definitely a worry it could just be silly crap.

I've always thought a sequel, or prequal, should include the time between the six films and without Luke, Leia, Darth, Obi, etc. Like, how did the "Bothan Spies" steal the Death Star blue print? Was there a mini-rebellion within the Empire ranks? Etc.

Did Vader train a midi-chlorine laden Empire officer to be a Sith only to have him discover the "Light Side?" The best they can come up with is to revisit Luke's severed hand? FFS...

That's what the new Star Wars Rebels cartoon is going to cover.

Set five years before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, the series follows a motley group of rebels—all of whom have been affected by the Galactic Empire in one form or the other—that band together in a small group aboard a freighter starship called the Ghost. The series will also focus on the origins of some of the groups that form the Rebel Alliance.

That's what the new Star Wars Rebels cartoon is going to cover.

All the offshoot productions that you're supposed to follow in order to know the full back story only aid in the destruction of the film series. If I didn't hate the prequels enough, everyone was just expected to have watched the Clone Wars animated series before getting to the film of episode III. It's all too scattered. They (Lucas and crew) knew how starved all the fans were, so they gave too much of a good thing that turned out to be not very good at all.

twonabomber
07-28-2014, 07:27 AM
There were the two "microseasons" of Clone Wars that came out before Ep III, but the regular half hour shows came out after. The short series introduced General Grievous but other than that I didn't feel that it was a must-view before seeing Revenge Of The Sith. I didn't keep up with the half hour shows.

Disney is also planning spinoff movies but I think that's going to be more about individual character origins instead of filling in the blanks between the main movies.

Now that Lucas has said the original six movies are canon, all the books may as well be an alternate universe. I've only read maybe seven out of the hundred (?) that they put out.

III starts of with Annikan having a scar on his head that was supposedly explained in the mini cartoon series I didn't care to watch. I guess I just didn't give enough of a hoot since I and II were, for the most part, God awful.

I also don't care to see any part of a real life movie be done in animation. Didn't work for me in Kill Bill, either.

J.J. Abrams formula for shit movie making: take a popular sci-fi trope/tv show/movie and CGI it to fucking death. Second, buy up all the rights including merchandising. Third, write fast-paced and nonsensical scripts with little character development and place them in a plot line so sparse and gaping with holes as much as possible. Fourth, pick up all sorts of superfluous awards given out by geeks with zits who still live with their parents and stink of wank simply because you are not Micheal Bay.

Fuck this film. Fuck you for going to see it and you know you are going to do.

Didn't like most of I, but I kind of get why it had to happen. Other than Binks, that is. Liked most of II. Had a pretty good idea what was going to happen in III but liked it, of course on the way out of the theater I thought that was going to be the last one forever.

No dish or cable, but I found last night's show on the torrents...should be done in 20 minutes.

Existed all over the last one Into A Bad Plot Line or whatever it was called. Makes me a hypocrite because I enjoyed the revamped Star Trek (well, the second one did kind of suck) in that it was a wonderfully casted movie which goes to show JJ can do some things right - or hire the right people to do his films right but this cheesy CGI overkill effects need to go.

I didn't like the way the second Trek went back to the well with Spock Prime. It was okay ONCE, to do it again reeked of desperation for acceptance.

I wasn't really a huge Trek fan. The only one I saw in the theater was the first one. I remember my dad falling asleep, and that it was a boring movie. Watched the rest of them on cable or whatever but never got into the other TV series or the movies past the Borg one.

I like the way Abrams has morphed bits and pieces of the original Star Trek story lines into the new movies, but also added fresh elements too. To me it at least draws some correlation to an altered reality with the same characters within their lifetime. He brought us up through Star Trek 3 with the latest... I only wished he'd have found a way to work in whales so we could have gotten 4 outta the way...

DONNIEP

As far as Star Trek goes, screw those whales. And I don't wanna see any more time travel. None! If it was that easy to travel through time, some wacko like me would have went back, nuked half the Federation and taken over like Castro riding a donkey through the streets of Havana. So no more time travel. Dammit!

And Higgy, I have to disagree. This new Star Wars ain't gonna suck. It's gonna be awesome. Disney knows if it sucks there are gonna be gangs of nerds roaming the streets that make the LA Riots look like a day at the Magic Kingdom.

And lastly, Indy. Yes, there should be another Indy movie. No, that little fag LaPoof shouldn't be anywhere near it. Can't he just get stepped on by a transformer or something? Skinny little fag. And it doesn't have be some magical thing Indy's going after. Just stick him in the middle of the jungle somewhere with a French bad guy after him and give me my damn popcorn. No UFOs. No nuclear bombs. No nothing. Indy: dirty pants, dirty shirt, dirty old beat all to hell jacket, dirty old gas mask bag that he couldn't have possibly been carrying because it wasn't issued until after Raiders was set but that don't matter, his beat up pistol, that old hat and his whip. And toss in a semi hot but totally attainable chick and boom - you just made 400 million in domestic box office alone.

Millennium Falcon Sighting Shocks Photographer

Matthew Myatt had to get his son to pinch him when he realised he had captured an image from the new Star Wars set in Berkshire.

http://media.skynews.com/media/images/generated/2014/9/10/334838/default/v3/10670221-685766208183306-2572570675410000988-n-1-942x530.jpg

A man has told Sky News he "fell off his seat" when he realised he had captured photos of the new Star Wars set while taking publicity shots of aeroplanes.

Matthew Myatt was taking stock photos for the flying school Airborne Aviation over Greenham Common near Newbury, Berkshire, on Tuesday.

But when he got home to load the images onto his computer he was amazed to see he had captured shots of a totally different type of aircraft - the Millennium Falcon.

Mr Myatt told Sky News he had noticed something "unusual" on the ground while working but had to get his "son to pinch him" and confirm what he thought it was.

His photo shows the partially constructed aircraft alongside an X-wing fighter, crane and other parts of a set. Mr Myatt said he could also see that trees and bushes had been planted on the common.

JJ Abrams has kept details of his film close to his chest

The former airfield was famous in the 1980s for the women's peace camp that sprang up around it in protest at the stationing of nuclear weapons on the site.

Director JJ Abrams has been filming Star Wars: Episode VII at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, Ireland and Abu Dhabi.

Mr Myatt said: "I grew up with Star Wars but this is something I never thought I'd see in real life. It was a real shocker."

He added that he is planning to go back to have a closer look.

The new film will see Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill return as Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker.

Ford had to have surgery on his left leg in June after breaking it on set.

The plot of Episode VII has been kept a secret but it takes place 30 years after the end of Return Of The Jedi.

The film is due for release in the UK in December 2015.

The title of the new Star Wars movie has been revealed as The Force Awakens.

The seventh instalment of the sci-fi saga is set about 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.

The film sees a new cast including Daisy Ridley and John Boyega joining original cast members Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.

The announcement was made on the movie's final day of production at Pinewood Studios, just outside London.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been directed by J J Abrams, who successfully reinvigorated the Star Trek movie franchise in 2009, and is due to be released on 18 December 2015.

I think when it comes out I am going to have to see it in 3D at the local IMAX. Just because I can.

I saw the original when it was still in theaters in fall of 1977. Like everyone else, it really blew my mind.

I am sure Abrams is going to do a great job with it. I still get the feeling of "I can't believe this is happening" when watching the first Star Trek reboot. The screenplay, editing, and well, everything were firing on all cylinders with that.

Let's see....there are 2 or 3 more Avatar sequels courtesy of James Cameron. James Bomb is going to be late next year or 2016, and rumor says Christoph Walz is going to be playing the role of the evil nemesis.....Ernst....Stavrell.....Blofeld.....

Donald Pleasance was the most kickass Blofeld. I wanna get a holodeck table like they had in Star Wars, and have Barbara Dare on it. :hee:

I've never even seen one Star Wars movie, which seems to amaze and/or bewilder a lot of people. A few of my friends think it's great because I could be one of the only people in the civilized world who could experience the whole epic saga for the first time. Somehow I haven't gotten around to doing that...

That's good. I hate that I know what new characters look like. I heard some places are selling tickets for the movie already. That's a tad insane. I'm sure I will over hear the plot and the ending before ever getting around to see it. That's the price of dodging pandemonium.

Getting my tickets tonight...

I've read too many spoilers already. I said I wasn't going to and I did anyways. Oh well.

The novelizations for the last two came out a week or two before the movies, and I tore through those in an evening. I mean, if you saw TESB, you knew Vader had a robotic hand, so reading that in Attack of the Clones was no big thing. And you'd always heard that Vader was disfigured in lava, so reading that in Revenge of the Sith was no big deal either.

Note that a lot of these new characters have not had a last name revealed yet. There is rampant speculation that "this one" is "that one's" kid. Finn may be someone completely new, speculation is his name is derived from his trooper number, as in FN-something. They still haven't really said who Max Von Sydow or Andy Serkis are playing. You'd assume Serkis did motion capture for a character.

The R2 builders were at the two Celebrations I went to. Some of those guys are waaaay into it. And there's always a Death Star mouse droid running around, pretty simple to build out of an RC car.

You completed Adventure in 5 minutes? Get fucked! You used a walkthrough!

I've never played it, though, so I wouldn't really know, but the word is that these old Atari games are very short when you know what you're supposed to do, but they're so cryptic that you'd get stuck until you lucked out. Things like a hidden pixel door in a wall that looks exactly like every other wall & stuff.

Or The Raiders of the Lost Ark, where you had to use the second controller to leave the first screen! No thanks, I love Monkey island & Broken Sword, but there's a limit when it comes to obtuse puzzles. Atari was/is just too cryptic for me.
