Weekly Standard (http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/kerry-religion-not-way-i-think-most-people-want-live_789066.html)

During a talk to the U.S. embassy staff in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the first stop on his trip to Africa, Secretary of State John Kerry remarked about what he called the "different cross-currents of modernity" and the challenges they present on the African continent.

The comments contain a veiled reference to religion, and the part that religion might be playing in some of the current conflicts in Africa:

"This is a time here in Africa where there are a number of different cross-currents of modernity that are coming together to make things even more challenging. Some people believe that people ought to be able to only do what they say they ought to do, or to believe what they say they ought to believe, or live by their interpretation of something that was written down a thousand plus, two thousand years ago. That’s not the way I think most people want to live."

The words "something that was written down a thousand plus, two thousand years ago" appear to refer to the Bible, or the Koran, or perhaps both.

The press office of the State Department declined to parse Kerry's remarks, instead referring questions to the traveling party accompanying the secretary on his Africa trip. An attempt to contact State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki, who was with Kerry in Africa, to clarify the remarks has so far been unsuccessful.

Maybe he's referring to the religions that pressure people in Africa to not protect themselves against AIDS.
Or the religions that encourage female genital mutilation.
I didn't know you were in favour of these things but who knows as your posts become increasingly out there.

Is this headline remotely connected to the content of the post? :confused13:

There are many things you could say about Judas IsKerryot, most would not be complimentary. But calling him a "demon" is a bit of a stretch.

And possibly an insult to Satan's hard working employees......

If you think there is too much of the ELVIS stuff dilute it by starting your own threads.

It's funny how often and how many people still get confused that free speech and no censorship also applies to things they don't like or agree with.

I guess it's such an easy trap to fall into...

We used to have a saying and you heard it all the time in the 1970's that free speech is protecting the speech you don't like. I think what we lost were the World War II veterans who seemed to have had a good handle on the importance of defending a person's rights and that was more important than having to agree with them.

How do you know that Elvis hasn't gotten a job fucking? He might be a well paid gigalo in a New Orleans bath house.

It shouldn't be...

Freedom of speech is intended for impolite and unpopular speech...
