Srt 300 ??

twonabomber
05-21-2014, 07:14 AM
SRT 300 is going away. That was revealed in the five year plans the other day. Dodge becomes the "performance" brand, SRT as a standalone brand goes away, and there will still be a Grand Cherokee SRT. Chrysler will move away from a "luxury" brand in favor of Maserati being Fiat Chrysler's luxury brand and BMW and Mercedes competitor. Viper returns to Dodge instead of being SRT Viper.

Read a good writeup on Durango R/T the other day too. I have no need for another SUV though, I bought a '99 Cherokee in December and have been driving the shit out of it.

ELVIS
05-21-2014, 07:28 AM
They need to get it straight...

I've been a Mopar guy my whole life and the company is making great vehicles, but it's confusing even for me...

I don't like the idea of calling the trucks just RAM, but the Durango is still a Dodge ??

Or just calling cars like the Viper an SRT, but now it's going back to Dodge...

And Maserati ??

They'd better do a good remake on that disgustingly ugly and snobbish brand...

I like that new Ghibli. Quattroporte is nice too, but stoopid expensive.

I don't like all the special editions they run now...Durango Citadel? WTF? And all the stupid Wrangler editions, Dragon, Call Of Duty, Arctic...fucking sticker and paint packages. Should be Sport, Sahara, and Rubicon, and that's it. They'll still sell every one.

ELVIS
05-21-2014, 07:38 AM
Yeah, I can customize it myself...

I like used cars...

I ran across a black SRT Challenger the other day with 19,000 miles for 25 grand at a Cadillac dealer...

A few small cracks in the front bumper plastic is all that I saw wrong with it...

Interesting that Dodge is getting into the supercharger game. Ford has been there since 2004. Looks like the Hemi is still a pushrod engine? Did they say what the power rating is on it? I'm curious to see how it does head to head with a GT500. From that video it didn't look too stable on the turns.

Ugliest cars on the planet. The thing is the people who buy hybrids want them to look that way. They want everyone to know they are more progressive. The South Park SMUG episode was so on the money. I'm all for higher gas mileage but man. Make the car look good.

LeBaron and the TC by Maserati don't share much at all.

From Allpar:

Although sharing styling cues with the LeBaron coupes and convertibles of the same period, the TC actually has relatively few components that are readily interchangable with those found on other Chrysler products. Certainly almost all body panels and exterior trim items, as well as most of the interior furnishings are unique to the TC.

True. And if I'm not mistaken, all of the Maserati TCs were actually shipped over there, minus the body panels and most of the interior. That's one of the reasons the damn things cost so much back then. But...at least Chrysler was trying something different. Unlike Chevrolet with their bastard Cimarron of the same era.

twonabomber
05-21-2014, 07:13 PM
I haven't seen a TC in years. Guy down by where I used to live has one, he had the little mom n' pop Chrysler dealer back in the early 2000's and finally closed it up but kept his Kubota dealership.

The local Chrysler/Plymouth (shows how long that's been!) dealer had a used one on his lot for a long time. They'd leave their cars unlocked, we'd stop by on the way back from the bar and check the cars out. The TC was really clean and had both tops, but stunk something horrible inside. They must not have taken the body out of the trunk.

As I remember there were a couple of other hybrids that came out at the same time as the Prius but they had the disadvantage of looking like non hybrid models - I think there was a Honda version that was much better than the Prius.

Most offensive are the movie/rock stars that have a Prius drive them back from the airport after landing in a private jet...

I think the most shitty plastic had to be on British cars. British Leyland wasn't exactly known for quality. Also it was obvious the bean counters were cutting costs by using the thinnest gauge of wire they could get away with. Not good when the insulation comes off your sensor wires on your Lucas fuel injection. When my nephew bought a Jaguar XJ6 I just laughed at him. Yeah it looks great but if you want that as a daily driver you might want to find a bigger sucker now. He ended up dumping $3,000 into it and unloaded it for $1500.

Some people loved them. I guess they actually were reliable and easy to fix. Iacocca said he asked the comptroller how much cash Chrysler had. One million dollars. The payroll a week was $2 million. He didn't have much to work with. When he went to repay the government back on it's loan he was told it would take 30 days to figure out who to write the check to. He gave President Reagan a fake check in the Oval Office for a photo Op. When he told Regean it was going to take a month to find out who to write the real check out to. Reagan just laughed. Iaccoca said he made a few million extra just leaving that money in the bank drawing interest while Ronny laughed.

Hell someone probably just pocketed the money. I think $3 Trillion went missing out of the Pentagon budget when Rumsfeld was in charge.

It was a used car. I forgot the year but it was the older body style. The leather was in great shape. He thought he made a deal at $1,000. I used to have a Range Rover Classic. It was fine off road when it ran. LOL! No complaints about the off road handling but the differentials would break and the cheap ass Lucas binnacle drove me nuts. The speedometer was always breaking. I unloaded off on some guy in Utah who proceeded to beat the shit out of it in Moab. Jeremy Clarkson was right. It was ahead of it's time in 1970 and was a great design but the shitty attention to details foiled the vehicle reaching it's full potential. Oh well. I had my fun with it.

It was a used car. I forgot the year but it was the older body style.

Those old XJ6's were absolutely notorious.

I've made lots of heart over head decisions over the years but even I wouldn't have touched one of them.

For the last 10 years I've really fallen out of love with the 'car as a statement of who you are' thing.

If you don't have unlimited money it seems not only a waste of money but an unoriginal way to spend your cash. Maybe doesn't work so well in the US but I heard a bit of fiscal advice which is very true at least for people in their 20s/30s that you should buy the most expensive home you can afford and the cheapest car. Property goes up in value cars fucking divebomb at least here.

I've never bought a new car. I may one day just to see what it's like but I would rather buy a 3 year old car at 50% of the price and spend the difference on living and doing stuff.

Nothing worse in this world than the guy with the expensive car that means he can't afford to live...

Plus the second scratch doesn't hurt.

The not having to give a shit is a huge freedom.

I leave it anywhere and literally don't care much if it's there when I go back a day later in a taxi to pick it up. That's a great feeling.

I'd much rather have a big taxi budget than a brand new Merc but I realise that's not an option for a lot of people in the US. If I go out in the city here it costs me about $15 to get home in a cab.

The older XJ6's were good looking cars. They are just money pits. New cars are poor investments. Always have been. Older cars with some collectors value is a different story. Some of us would have done well if we sat on our late 60's muscle cars for a few decades. LOL!

Real estate can be a lousy investment. The problem with real estate is it sometimes can be difficult to sell and there are the costs of taxes and insurance. You don't buy the home you buy the neighborhood so in general buying the cheapest house in the best neighborhood you can afford is good advice. Big houses can be hard to sell but a smaller, well maintained home in a great neighborhood usually move.

Car culture is just not in the US. In places like China and Russia what people want as soon as they have some extra money is a new car. You wouldn't dare ride a bicycle in Bejing today. Your ass would get ran over!

If nobody bought new cars there wouldn't be any used ones to buy. It's always nice to have someone else take the depreciation hit and if they kept it on the maintenance schedule that's the one you want to snag.

You can get by without a car in New York City. Where you have denser populations you have better public transportation. Where you need a car is where that isn't available or doesn't work for where you want to go. Where I live you have to not only have a car but something that can get around in lots of snow in the winter. Some days I'm driving 300 plus miles just going places for work.

http://jalopnik.com/here-is-proof-that-a-707-hp-dodge-charger-srt-hellcat-s-1610846639

You want a four-door Dodge Charger with the 707 horsepower supercharged V8 from the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat? You're probably gonna get it. Here's why.

Our friends at Road & Track discovered the Hellcat's SAE certification filing, a document that certifies the car's horsepower and torque ratings. And guess what it says?

"J1349 Certified Power Engine Data for Chrysler as used in 6.2L SC HEMI (Hellcat) 2015 MY Dodge Challenger 6.2L SC SRT; 2015 MY Dodge Charger 6.2L SC SRT - Level 1."

Emphasis mine. That's a lot of jargon, but it's clear this engine is also meant for the Dodge Charger as well as the Challenger. It's not too surprising, given that Fiat-Chrysler alluded to a supercharged Charger in their five-year model plans.

While there's still been no official confirmation yet from the manufacturer, it definitely looks like things are headed that way.

The question, as R&T notes, is will the Charger Hellcat get the option of a six-speed manual gearbox like the Challenger has? It's never had one, and it seems unlikely it will get it here. But I certainly hope so.

Regardless of transmission, I'm eagerly awaiting America's most powerful sedan.

I just read the government is going to have to increase the fuel tax because cars have become fuel efficient to the point where there isn't enough tax revenue to cover the cost of maintaining the roads. Also I can remember LA in the 1970's where the sky was just a haze from the car emissions. Last time I was there you could see the San Gabriel Mountains all the way from the deck of the Queen Mary in Long Beach. You never could in the 1970's due to pollution.

Cars aren't cheap and not everyone lives the same lifestyle. Some need SUV's to deal with snow and off road conditions. An SUV full of people gong down the highway is still more fuel efficient than having to take two economy cars to haul the same load.

People still love cars and in places like China and Russia where people typically never owned cars in the past buy a new car as soon as they have the money to do so.

People love cars even with all the problems they tend to cause. It's having the freedom to go where you want to go and an individual identity. You can tell a lot about a person by what kind of car they drive.

The original Super Bees weren't well built. I kind of shake my head seeing what some of those muscle cars go for at auction. They were cheap built cars with big engines marketed to the younger crowd. Nothing wrong with Chrysler engineering. They were the premier engineering automaker in the 1960's. The engines and drivetrains were fine. The rest of the car was built on the cheap to keep the costs down so daddy could buy one for junior to drive to school or take to college.

Pretty much the only car that Chrysler marketed here in the last decade has been the PT Cruiser.

A guy across the road bought one and whenever I passed him it had that awkwardness of trying to get the right expression on your face when you walk past some poor unfortunate person who had a thalidomide kid. You don't want to look negative and make them feel worse but also anything positive just makes you look false.

You must be cum drunk. The Prowler was badass, and still is. It still brings a premium price on the open market. The problem with the Prowler had nothing to do with looks. It was the fucking V6. They should have put a Hemi in it. They should have offered several versions, like they are doing with the Challenger. A Hellcat version of the Prowler would have set Chrysler apart from anyone else at that time. More than the Viper ever could have dreamed of doing.

What's an electronic emergency brake?

Here it's called an electronic handbrake.

It's where you press a button for your emergency brake in a stick shift car?

It's weird how all the words for car stuff are different between US English and proper English, like trunk(boot), fender(bumper), hood(bonnet) etc etc.

If everything between the two versions of the language was like cars I wouldn't be able to understand half the posts here... :)

I'm not disagreeing.. I've never driven a paddle shift.. No idea what that's all about.

It's like a game console for a video game. It's like like going from the mechanical slot machines where you pulled the handle to the new boring ass ones where you just push a button. You click the paddle one way to up shift and the other way to down shift. There's no fun things like matching the revs and shifting without clutching and all that. You lose a feel for the car.

No paddle shifters...

It's a five speed auto with manual mode, which I like...

I rarely go past third gear...

But it shifts strictly at 6000 RPM whether in manual mode or not...

That sucks because the peak 425hp happens at 6250, supposedly...

As soon as I get my hands on a Diablo or Predator I can raise the shift points to 6250 or even 6450...

But even being the larger Charger at well over 4000 lbs, this thing is a beast on the street...

It fries the tires at will but hooks up great with the traction control on...

Amazing, really...

I have a Pro-Cal Ford Racing tune waiting to go into my car. It's a 'premium fuel' tune so I can only use 91+ octane gas - which I do anyway.. Ford claims an additional 60 ft. lbs. of torque at 1500 RMP. It really wakes the car up down low. Also have a set of GT500 mufflers waiting to go on as well.
I just put $2k of Steeda suspension in to the car and wow what a difference that made.. it stays flat in turns and there's no more wheel hop.

Maybe the next gen? Not sure how many buyers they'd get, and with no future SRT Chrysler 300's, that cuts the market down further. The police Chargers run column shifts but will still get the five-speed autos instead of the new eight-speeds.

Chevy is going to offer a manual in the SS. Between that and the easier to mod LS motor, that could sway some guys toward SS and away from Charger.
