There were three votes in the Senate yesterday confirming President Obama's Fed nominees. Stanley Fischer was confirmed to be Vice Chairman of the Fed's Board of Governors and Jerome Powell and Lael Lael Brainard were both confirmed as members of the Board of Governors. The nominations were not considered "controversial" and all three sailed through the Senate, with no one opposing them except a handful of Republican obstructionists who, basically, oppose everything and anything. Oh, and Bernie Sanders. His perspective is that foxes were being hired to guard the chicken coop. Two of the nominees have Wall Street banking ties and one was a corporate consultant.

Brainard, a former Treasury official, was voted on first and he was approved 61-31, all the Democrats plus 11 Establishment Republicans voting aye. Next up was Powell, a Republican and already a member since 2012 but confirmed for a new 14-year term; he did even better, with a 67-24 super-majority. Even some of the real fire-breathing extremists like Beauregard Sessions (R-AL), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Dick Shelby (R-AL), who all voted against Brainard, approved Powell. But not Bernie. He wasn't playing childish partisan games.

Last up was Fischer, a former head of the Bank of Israel, and he was confirmed 63-24 with more senators skipping out of the chamber and not voting at all.

Bernie's statement on why he voted against all three makes a lot of sense-- and certainly doesn't have anything to do with why the Republican obstructionists voted no. "Congress," he reminded Obama and his economic team, "requires the Fed to maximize employment and minimize inflation. At a time when real unemployment in the United States is more than 12 percent, it is clear that the Fed is not doing enough to help create the millions of decent-paying jobs that Americans desperately need. We need Fed governors who will act with a fierce sense of urgency to address the unemployment crisis that our nation faces. We also need tough financial regulators who will stop the reckless gambling on Wall Street and prevent another financial crisis from happening again. We need the Fed to stand up to Wall Street and their powerful lobbyists and fight for policies that protect the working families in our country. I do not believe that any of these nominees fit that bill."

There is no free market. All prices are rigged. How can you have a free market when you have a central bank that can decide what the prime rate is going to be in a conference room? Once Nixon closed the gold window in 1971 and Kissinger put the petrodollar deal together our economy changed to running on debt. Now we are the largest debtor nation in world history. The debt can't be paid. It's going to have to be written off. In this country and in others. When that happens the supply of money will dry up and the economy will stagnate. There's nothing anyone in Washington can do to fix it.

Also there is no leadership in Washington at the moment. There is no leadership in the congress. There is no leadership in the executive branch. To me it looks like the Israelis are running our state department. The supreme court is making decisions it has no business making because congress won't do it's job. It's broken here. Our military is being used for oligarch's geopolitical games while our borders (which should be the first thing you protect) are wide open. Now you have Dick Cheney out and about trying to sell another Iraq troop invasion. You hear the same shit from Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. The same old shit.

The country needs leadership. Badly. It's what the citizens really want. I don't know who is going to provide it. That's the big question and is it going to be decent leadership that doesn't roll us over.

We are in dangerous times. The western political and financial systems are collapsing due to rampant corruption. No question now. The East is going to be the big economic driver from this point on. It used to be students from India and China got jobs here and stayed on a work visa. Now they are going back to their home countries. Unless we can create a work situation that draws the world's talent here again, we are going to have a big ass brain drain while we age.

I think a lot of people now see voting the party line from now on might just cause a nuclear war at worst and an unproductive cold war at best. It's bullshit. In the 1970's you couldn't even go to half the world. It was closed off. You couldn't go into mainland China from Hong Kong. The harbor was full of refugees from places like Vietnam and Cambodia. Now the world is open. It's hard to get into Saudi Arabia and Iran but most everywhere else it's open. Who wants to go back to the cold war bullshit? I don't.

The only country that wants constant war is the US. I think this is a combination of Israel using us to fight it's enemies and the military industrial complex needing an excuse to justify it's existence. We could get by on a lot less military spending. I mean the nation is being fleeced to run a military machine that we don't need and it's destroying nations. Iraq was better off under Saddam Hussain than it is now.

We do need to repair and upgrade our infrastructure but the first thing we need to do is nationalize the Federal Reserve Bank. Being the smart ass I am I would just love to mint one coin out of the US Treasury for the amount we owe them. Make just one dollar worth the amount out of some cheap metal like tin and give it to them and settle the debt that way. LOL!

The one problem I see in the US that's going to be hard to fix is the lack of a work ethic. When people get something without working for it they get lazy and entitled feeling. The one thing I respect about my dad is I was to either get a job on my own or he would put me to work. Then he told me to pay myself first and that was putting 10% into savings and then work hard and play hard. You have some self-pride living that way.

Sure we can rebuild the infrastructure but the people on welfare need to get the jobs. Not illegals south of the border. The thing is, if I was a foreman running a crew, I'm not so sure I would want some of those people on my crew. I actually would rather have the Mexicans here for the money. We need to fix the captive voter welfare state as well.

Not being argumentative, just asking a simple question here...what scenario is more likely? A superhuman deity who could quell storms, walk on water, use magic at will, raise the dead, perform exorcisms, self resurrect, transmute food types, create food out of nothing, miraculously heal the sick/plagued - AND fly up into the clouds where Heaven is obviously located?
