View Full Version : Remembering Yankee Rose

Hey folks.

Losing somebody dear to us always happens at the most inopportune of times. Here at the Army, we're unfortunately a bit experienced with that. Sometimes we know it's coming, quite often we don't. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our own day to day battles, battles that we think are the be-all end-all of existance, that we don't often recognize the TRUE warriors around us who battle to the limit of their strength, each and every single day, with every passing breath.

It saddens me to say that Yankee Rose, better known to a lot of us as Christine, passed away Saturday after a long and arduous battle. Out of respect for her and her family, I won't go into any real details of what happened. Her passing isn't what is really important, anyway - what's important is her life. Her friends (many of which were from this site), her family, and keeping her memory alive...that's what counts.

Christine LOVED Van Halen, she adored David and she loved the Roth Army. She made a whole slew of very supportive friends here, many of which came to know her as extended family. Christine and I had a few very good conversations, both in public forums and in private. I'm glad to say that Christine impacted my time here at the Army in a very positive way and she kept me laughing - and thinking - with every post I had the pleasure to read.

She was a FANTASTIC community member, a wonderful friend and dearly loved by not only us, but her other friends and the family she leaves behind.

Quite often we wonder at the fairness of some things and ask where the justice is in it all. It's times like this that we remember that, for what time we have here, life is an adventure. How we impact others is really the true lasting legacy that we leave. How we impact those lives determines how they impact others. While we're all very separate people sometimes, our interactions with the world are impossible to fathom, and I know for a fact that Christine left the world a better place than it was when she got here.

God bless you, girl. You will be dearly missed. Thank you for spending your time with us. All things return.

Well said Bueno Bob. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Christine as long as many of my RA friends but she was always cool to me. God bless her family and friends during these hard times. RIP Christine and Roth on.

had the opportunity to talk to her in person only twice, yet will always remember her voice. a wonderful mother and strong role model. the obvious positive is that her pain and struggle are over, tho she would endure it tenfold to be with her child. be sure to keep her family in your thoughts...

She was a Roth Army legend and because of her I have made friends with many of the people who do/did post here, in real life! You included, Bob!

Funny as hell, didn't suffer fools gladly and she had a twisted sense of humor.........no wonder she was my pal!

She was a great parent, loyal daughter and caring friend..........class act all the way!

Rest well, Christine!

She was an outstandingly sweet presence here! It was certainly a pleasure to know her! One of many people from this place that came into my life and made the world a better place! Every time I see a pin-up art I think of her! A truly unique gal!

Words just fail me right now. Her friendship was such a blessing. My heart, as much as it hurts right now, is with her precious little girl and her mom and dad. I'm gonna cherish these voicemails from her, with her downright adorable (and thicker than my own) southern twang. We don't say "I love you" to those we hold dear nearly enough. Even though I had no idea it would be our last conversation, I sure am glad I told her.

Sleep well, my ESP sister.

I'm so sorry to hear this, she was one of the originals here way back at it's start and managed to always take the high ground.

It's always a sad day when a member of this community passes away.

I didn't know her very well, but I wish to pay my respects with a post in this thread.

And here's hoping it'll be a long time before another of these threads is started.

Cheers! :beers:

What tragic news. Shocking.

Back in the day she and I would IM each other on MSN Messenger all the time. Sometimes she would playfully send a "story", shall we say....

In fact, I recall now that on 9/11, when I was right down the street from the Pentagon, it was Christine who immediately checked in with me when I signed onto MSN to make sure I was OK.

I guess it's inevitable when you have an aging group of people at a website that has been online for, what, 15 years now, that these things happen. We've lost several great people now, and it doesn't get any easier when you hear the news.

RIP Yankee Rose......

Such a sweet, endearing girl. I am devastated by her passing, yet am inspired by her life. Yeah, Chris will be missed, yet never forgotten. Her existence is to be celebrated by all that ever came in contact with her, as well as by those that did not.

Farewell, my dear.

Just to clarify, she wasn't the first Yankee Rose around here, but I think she nabbed the name as soon as the site came back. She was also known as Candy Girl. She burst onto the scene as YR with RothFans v.1 and migrated over here. On other sites, she's known simply as Christine. Regardless of whatever screen name you want to call her, she was one of the best.

She knew this day would come. She would tell me how she knew she would never get to see her little girl into adulthood in which I would always reply with some of my hopeless optimism to encourage her. I never believed her. My optimism was real, but now, I'm really angry that what little time she had in this world was always spent with those thoughts in the back of her mind. She fought a long, hard battle and yet was still one of the sweetest, dearest, and most fun souls you could ever know.

These are heartbreaking news... How deeply sad it is to hear about a young mother passing away. :(

I haven't really met Yankee Rose in the forums, but reading the messages in this sad thread it seems she was a great person. My thoughts go to her little girl and her family who will dramatically miss her and will need strength to go through hard moments.

I've seen too many cases - like many of us unfortunately -, young children even, and every time it's just... unspeakable.

Oh man, well that changes things....

Still tragic that Christine passed away, of course, but thanks for the clarification.....

Appears not Von...

The YR I was referring to is an attractive long-haired blonde from South Carolina.....

Sad to see this thread is not about remembering the song Yankee Rose. All I can say is it looks like Yankee Rose had a fan club of her own in here.

Hey again folks,

Yes, I apologize - I should have spent a few extra moments clarifying exactly which Yankee Rose we were talking about, I apologize for any confusion I may have caused. Rest assured it was inadvertent on my part.

Hey, no problem. Like Va said, "tragic". We lost a member of our CVH/DLR loving community. A member that was very well thought of. It fucking sucks her life was cut short.

Really no need to apologize but I thought with the Eat Em and Smile anniversary it was a thread dedicated to the song "Yankee Rose". Sadly I wish it was. I didn't know the person but it's never good to hear someone has passed on and left a family and children behind. That being said, good people who have passed on need to be honored and the friends they left behind need a place to say their condolences.

Absolutely. I had the honor to meet her and it's heartbreaking and surreal to think she passed away. I'm here to support a fallen sister and to give comfort to those that knew her. Blessed be.

Sparkie has the details right in post #19 Candy Girl / YR, used to pm me with hopefull thoughts and best wishes and a chuckle or two out of the few pm's I have saved she is on the list and archived on my personal dvd's.

She would let on about her issues ( we would discuss general board commentary also), but she always worked out some way to make it all seem like just part of the deal and dealing is all we can do.

`I have never met any board members of the -Roth Communities- in person, not meeting this one has me questioning my behavior.

Peace and Love
