It's one of my least favorite songs on the 1984 album. I'm more of a "Girl Gone Bad" type of guy. Jump was picked because it was more of a pop type song than a real rocker. It brought VH bigger mass appeal and probably sold more albums.

They played "House of Pain" live when I saw them in 84. It sounded just like the album. Holy fuck they rocked!

The jam at the end is even better live judging by the boots I've seen and heard. Love that tune.

Girl Gone Bad & House of Pain are definitely the 2 most underrated tracks on that album. I was thrilled when they did GGB in Orlando in 2012.. they really nailed it!

When I saw that video for the first time I was shocked. Why would a band with a lead guitarist like Eddie Van Halen put out a song with keyboard as the lead instrument? If it was a hard rocking tune like No Quarter or Inna Gadda Da Vida I could dig it but it sounds too much like something Journey or REO Speedwagon would play. I've always assumed that what Dave was bitching about when he said he didn't like the direction the music was taking. Kind of surprised me to find out he performed the song at DLR concerts.

I think Warner Brothers were looking for a Top 40 friendly song from Van Halen. Jump was it. It was a huge song commercial wise because it generated a lot of air play. Now a great rocker song like House of Pain wouldn't have worked. Jump was probably the producer being prodded by the marketing department then influencing Ed to do something or finding something Ed had done that fit the agenda. I don't think VH came up with Jump without outside influence. At least it wasn't one of those sappy ballads they started to have rock bands do.

Eddie liked the song and Dave made killer lyrics. Do I like the whole thing much...nope.

Don't complain. At least it's Roth related. Would you rather see another political posts here instead?

Let's review

Yes...let's. 'Jump' was dated before it ever was a hit. Eddie took a page from "all of those British pussy new wave acts" and basically stole their synthy shit for a heavy MTV rotation. Roth - in his usual stupidity - wrote some of the most inane lyrics in his er, "career" when it came to 'Jump.'

"I ain't the worst that you've seen. Oh, can't you see what I mean?"

No, not really. Other than Roth was another token tool in the endless line of MTV bloated rock stars and their endless egotism shit. Is that was Roth meant? And I have to disagree here. Roth was the worst I've ever seen. Homoerotic spandex, hairspray and alcoholism. If Roth was doing his best to be a idiot then yes, I can see what he means no matter how inane. Must have took his ass what, 3 minutes to write that tune?

Dave's dog took a dump on the carpet yesterday. Eddie got shit faced and fell off a barstool. Wolfie masturbated ten times. Are you happy now?

Now, this, this was my 80's tune to end all 80's tunes. Considering the 80's was by far, the worse decade for music, EVER!

See, you can get stoned, groove and even fuck to this. Can't say the same for any Halen drek.

"So, what are you trying to say, Kristy?"

Your generation sucked and continues to suck.

When a tune hits on all levels straight off the first note and continues forward and gains mass appeal worldwide is it automatically beautiful....HELL NO!

Just check historical records " JUMP" spreads the love and shows the beauty of quality musicianship> you can like other tunage by other bands at the second time first, don't matter> Jump looks down upon the masses and hits eye level, without the pretentiousness of pandering to the masses....and that is, beautiful.

The 80's is just a blur to me. I was wasted through most of it I can't remember what it was like.
