Several schools in England are threatening to call child protective services and have parents arrested by police if they allow their children to play video games such as ‘Grand Theft Auto’ and ‘Call Of Duty’.

The London Times reported that a group of Principals from 16 schools penned a letter to parents stating that in their belief, the games were directly responsible for the kids displaying “oversexualized behavior” in school.

http://hw.infowars.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/letter.jpg

“Several children have reported playing or watching adults play games which are inappropriate for their age and they have described the levels of violence and sexual content they have witnessed.” the letter notes, adding that “Call Of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Dogs Of War and other similar games are all inappropriate for children and they should not have access to them.”

“If your child is allowed to have inappropriate access to any game, or associated product, that is designated 18+ we are advised to contact the police and children’s social care as this is deemed neglectful.” the letter declares.

The letter also warns that even allowing children access to social media sites such as Facebook and WhatsApp would be reported.

“Access to these games or to some social media sites such as those above increases early sexualised behaviours (sometimes harmful) in children and leaves them vulnerable to grooming for sexual exploitation or extreme violence.”

One of the principals told the Times that the move constituted an issuing of “clear guidelines” to parents, rather than a threat.

While it is certainly true that the video games contain adult themes, critics have urged that it is a parent’s responsibility to decide whether their child is responsible and mature enough to have access to them.

“Accepting the huge concerns about these violent games and their effect on children, I think the schools are stepping outside the realm of what is probably acceptable.” said Margaret Morrissey, of parents’ advocacy group Parents Outloud.

Having state aligned school officials lecture parents on how to raise their kids, and threaten them with arrest or, worse still, taking their children from them constitutes a very slippery slope.

This is especially prevalent, given the fact that the Tory government in teh UK is threatening social workers and teachers who fail to report even minor “concerns” about children with up to five years in prison.

I don't know enough about the UK education system to really have a coherent comment, but it seems like this is incredibly out of line and impossible to enforce.

If they were playing the games on mobile devices IN the schools, then maybe. But trying to regulate the kids lives at home? That's just fucked up.

You don't have to just post any old scare story from the daily Mail and you're good . You don't have to read it or comprehend it.

There's a clip for every topic. For example, let's say Elvis and Sesh are arguing about religion and Sesh makes fun of the Rapture and says even if he got raptured he'd want to say. Well here's how you get out of it:

Most of the boys at my kids school constantly play '18' rated video games from the age of 8 or 9.

The parents seem to think that because it is a video game it won't have adult content. I doubt they would let their kids see an 18 movie but ignore all video game ratings. I don't think video games make people shoot up schools but there is a lot of sexual content in the games so my little girl is getting boys in 5th grade talking about junkie strippers and rape and killing whores. This is at one of the top schools in the country in a nice area.

I assume that the English education authority above were having the same situation and are trying to give the parents a wake up call.

The whole "violent video games breed violent kids" thing has been SO debunked many times. People who say that like to refer to the Columbine killers and how they modded DOOM to make it look like their school. Well, it's obvious those two guys had underlying mental issues to begin with.

I agree but it seems wrong for 9 and 10 year olds to be playing stuff like this...

Who buys these age inappropriate video games for children? Their stupid white trash parents. That's who. Forget Columbine. If you're buying or allowing your kids to play shit like this then you're a moron. And if you're letting your young children play this shit at their friend's house, or in your house - unsupervised - then you're a super moron.

I'm one of the most gubment-stay-out-of-my-bidness people on earth. And I'm not suggesting that schools or the gubment should monitor childrens' behavior. What I'm saying is this: If you have kids, why not show the fuck up every day and pay attention to your kids and spend some time with them. Wanna know who your kids friends are and what they're up to? Start talking to them every day, about their day, when they're first old enough to talk. You'd be surprised how open a kid will be if you start out talking about everything and anything. Show up every damn day and be a parent. It ain't that hard.

And as far as "debunking" that video games have a direct affect on a child's behavior - fuck that. It's not just video games. It's also the deluge of what passes for entertainment these days. You have to be the parent. And as the damn parent, you are the gate keeper and you control what your kids do and see and hear. Of course, they're gonna hear it all in school. But if you put in even the smallest amount of time and effort - you'd be surprised at how open kids will be with their parents and then the parents can actually educate them and instill some morals. I ain't talkin about religion here either. I'm talking about right and wrong.

Ya know, there used to be The Grown Up Table and the kids' table. There used to be entertainment that was for grown ups and kids weren't allowed to see/hear it. Kids were kids and adults were adults. But now society wants to blur the lines so damn much that kids SHOULD be able to play games or listen to music or watch movies that "never hurt me when I was a goddamn child", even though there was no such thing 30 years ago.

So this is what you wind up with: an entertainment industry that glorifies thugs, hoes, bitches, throws around the N word like candy at a parade - and all the 10 year olds in the world should be allowed to access it but NOT repeat it or emulate it.

Fuck that. It might be 2000something outside my house. Inside my house - it's 1955 babayyy. And don't give me some bullshit about how things are so much better now than then. I don't care. My house, my goddamn rules.

I think a lot of parents have no idea.

They are working full time, jugging kids and childcare and think video games are still like Pacman or something.

This isn't some obscure game, it's sold 45 million copies #2 of all time or something?

Don't get me wrong again I don't think it should be in any way banned I bought the first couple myself when I had more time but some parental info needs to get out there.

In other words, they're the same fuckin morons who show up, the chick delivers a kid, and the hospital has to ask do they have a diaper bag and a car seat to take the baby home. Because here in America, that's how it goes down. I asked the nurse "what kind of fuckin idiot shows up to take his baby home without a car seat or a diaper bag???", thinking I had asked a rhetorical question. And she says "More than you would believe."

Naivete is no excuse. Stupidity or lack of time is no excuse. But I'm sure there will be 37 people to post here saying that they don't have time for their kids and video games and unlimited access to the interwebz and porn is good for their kids. And I'll be proved wrong. By a bunch of stupid fucks that should have been sterilized to begin with.

My son's generation is the last to remember life without the internet. We had Nintendo when it came out, but that was for days when baseball was rained out...

I let my kid see and hear what some would deem inappropriate (blazing saddles) and RHCP, etc. but he knew what was ok in comedy and music was not okay in every day conversation.

Control freaks who are attracted by governmental power and worm themselves into the government just love people who are too irresponsible to take care of themselves. They love irresponsible parents because it gives them the excuse needed to make the government the parent. That's been the wet dream of every dictator.
