Well, some of the background vocals were being piped in. You can really hear it on that recording.

But way way beyond that, Dave is staying in the proper register. Wow. What a fucking difference.

How dare some dumbasses around here claim the Jap show is even fucking close to that performance.

He had just spent a coupla years auditioning for Van Halen in his own Van Halen tribute band so he was just back in and still on probation.

He does need to be tranq'd and tied to a chair and forced to watch and listen to this and compare and contrast and be honest with himself about who is the better sounding vocalist and who is the cooler frontman up there, 07-08 DLR or the current off book, vocally all over the place, fidgety kid lookin Dave?

Well, you can rest easy. Because, apparently, Dave can STILL sing the songs and can STILL pull it off. He's just choosing not to, for some retarded reason. Sabotage or whatever. But just as soon as Mikey comes back, OR as soon as he gets fired from VH, Dave will start singing just like he did just a few years ago. See, he's destroying his opportunity to gain fans OR retain fans just so he can take them all with him when he leaves VH. Or bring them with him in droves when he finally gets his (and mine) wish and has Mikey up there. Dave is sand bagging. So the ability is still there. But he just chooses to totally destroy his legacy and his legitimacy as a singer just so he can either get fired or Ed will bring back Mikey.

Listening to the shows from '07-'08 vs what was heard in '12 to varying degrees and on Kimmel is that Dave's voice sounded "drier" back then for lack of a better term. The best way to describe the opposite of that is how your voice can sound when you have a cold and mucus gets on your vocal chords- it alters the sound/timbre of the voice. I don't know how good those descriptions are. but that's the difference to me physically. The higher register stuff is Dave making the choice to sound worse, which I don't get.

That's so crazy it could be true. I don't understand these guys.

But he ain't taking any fans with him based on these performances. He'd haveta earn them back, but how? I think this Van Halen is the Van Halen we'll have. Maybe Wolfgang leaves and Dave rallies for Michael Anthony and we get James LoMenzo (Verdine White? Billy Sheehan? LOL) I just think they make whatever decisions they want based on the "stick with 'em" fans like me.

It's hard for me to think I've got a good educated guess about this situation. Dave is responsible for the design concept of "Tokyo Dome". Dave chose the show. Dave vetoes songs. (That seems fucking strange. They can't overrule and say We're putting in As Is, and LUTS. We're gonna rehearse 'em and work 'em out for you to sing well. You should stand still and belt 'em out. You're a trouper, Dave.")

They definitely agree on smokescreens and secrecy. "I don't know where Dave is." , and the hint of the ship on the Roth Show. Then alluva sudden they're back, Is that to make us SO happy that they're back?

But of course, I don't follow other bands the way I do these guys. Are the Stones boards full of speculations and guesses/ Are people constantly asking if Keith and Mick are cool with each other nowadays? Of course, Keith and Mick are allowed to do outside projects and Mick has never been outta the band. But they have dissed each other.

Just some raggedy, random thoughts.

BumBahDeeDah
04-04-2015, 10:25 PM
By the way, I think most hardcore Classic VH fans still enjoy the show, because they're singing so loud at a loud show that they don't hear Dave. After the last time I seent them, (MSG 3/1/12) It was only in the bar afterward that I realized that I sang HAIL better than Dave. No, I did.

And someone else said this here, I could swear, but it is true that DLR is becoming the caricature that people have been painting of him in the last twenty years or so.

I also think the Ed wants to stick with Dave because he knows he wasn't good in 07 -08 and Dave was and Dave stuck with him.

And no one else really wants to be around the Van Halens as the new lead singer, and they don't want Sammy back. People still say " David Lee Roth is back?" , and Ed can sell his guitars and amps and sneakers, Wolfgang can be in Tremonti and work on solo stuff, but Dave can't release the stuff with John 5 that only me and 37 other people will buy, that probably doesn't clash at all with Van Halen music. But dUg Pinnick is in 47 bands.

This wine is good. Is there anything left in that bottle?

"Push Come to Shove" is another one that would be easy for Dave.

Wolfgang can be in Tremonti and work on solo stuff, but Dave can't release the stuff with John 5 that only me and 37 other people will buy, that probably doesn't clash at all with Van Halen music. But dUg Pinnick is in 47 bands.

That was great BBDD. So fuckin' true, it hurts.

I thought that was remarkable. He got back to sing backgrounds during his tantrum and frustrations. I think he only missed once. What a vet. Pretty interesting.
