Well, they had a good run, and outside of the obvious age related limitations of Geddy's vocal range, stayed at the top of their game. So if they can't physically do it anymore, I don't think anybody could fault them for pulling the plug after 40+ years.

I haven't played drums for years, and tendonitis is one of the main reasons why. I can't imagine how a drummer like Peart could keep on doing it. When I get an attack of that shit, I can't even lift my arm over my head. It sucks. :(

Wow, didn't know that...
This might explain why Alex's solos are a little bit weak on this tour.. Bummer.
As far as Geddy, his voice is still there. (ahem..Paul Stanley..ahem)
I really do appreciate his vocal parts on the early songs they're currently playing.
Now, about Peart.. Well.. The motherfucker is a Machine.

And, Ford, you're absolutely right, I can't blame them for pulling the plug after 40+ years on the road.

Rush is a good example of "when to stop while still on top".

Just saw RUSH on May 14th. Spectacular as always . No other band on this planet can match these guys . Individually and collectively they are phenomenal musicians and their live shows are marathons . The nature of their music is unforgiving so it was just a matter of time before wear and tear caught up with them .
RUSH and I go back to the late '70's and I have been fortunate enough to have seen them a good dozen or so times since then . When they call it a day it will be a sad occasion .

Maybe Geddy can hook up with Bob and Doug McKenzie.

Too bad about Alex and Neil...........though they're not saying they'll never record or tour again!

Just not the size and scope of the way they used to.

Rush has always done it with class. They've always treated their music and audience with great respect. You can't ask for more than that

Outside the US we're not going to see this last tour but the previous one was a triumph and a great way to bow out.

To have a show at that point in their career where the 'new stuff' was the highlight was amazing.

Well, Rush has nothing left to prove.

Surely, it would suck if Lifeson becomes debilitated to the point where he can't play anymore.

In my book, Rush did it with integrity. All of it. They had a great second act after a several year layoff, in terms of putting out new music that wasn't totally embarrassing when stacked up to what they were doing from 1974 to 1983, and they could still deliver the goods live despite their advancing age. Shit, just those two factors alone put them miles above the majority of aging rock bands still active (virtually none of whom are able to come up with new material worth listening to and just sound old and tired live).

It'd be a shame to see them retire, as opposed to plenty of other acts that have been around as long as them (or even longer) who keep lamely chugging along for no other purpose than to generate retirement revenue. It's exactly because Rush ISN'T that type of mold-ridden rock band that it would be such a shame (whereas you know Jon Bon Jerkoff will be around for years to come). But like Sesh said, Rush can go out with their heads held high, rather than with a whimper of indifference.

Neil's arms were a big issue on the Clockwork tour. You will see them still making music but the grind of touring w 3 hour shows is just a challenge for all bands in their 60's, just the facts. Saw them last week twice and they were still really solid and it is just cool to see a group still genuinely having fun with each other. They will still be around just not at their leisure now rather than as a job.

RUSH TO FILM HOMETOWN SHOWS

http://prog.teamrock.com/news/2015-06-06/rush-to-film-hometown-shows

Toronto concerts on “farewell” tour set for later release

Rush will film their hometown shows later this month for a future live release.

They play Toronto’s Air Canada Centre on June 17 and 19 as part of what’s expected to be their final large-scale tour.

In April guitarist Alex Lifeson ruled out the idea of streaming any of the shows live as a result of their “old school” approach to performance. He said: “We want to keep it ‘that event, that concert, that congregation.’ In that sense we’ll do it a little more old-fashioned.”

But he was more positive towards the idea of releasing board mixes to those who’d attended shows, noting: “it’s a relatively easy thing to develop.”

Earlier this week Lifeson said he hoped Rush would continue to play in a limited format after the tour, and that they might have two more albums in them.

In the current edition of Classic Rock, on sale now, frontman Geddy Lee confirms the band know they're reaching the end of the road – and he fears Lifeson’s arthritis would be the biggest factor in ending their live career.
