Gretchen Carlson, a former Fox News Channel host, said Wednesday she was fired by the conservative-leaning cable news network and has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against its chairman and CEO, Roger Ailes.

In a statement released through a public relations firm, Carlson, best known for co-hosting “Fox & Friends” until 2013, said she “refused to sleep” with Ailes and “reported disparaging treatment in the newsroom.”

Carlson was terminated on June 23 when her contract expired. Her program, “The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson,” was the leading cable news show in its afternoon time slot, she claimed.

“Ailes has unlawfully retaliated against Carlson and sabotaged her career because she refused his sexual advances and complained about severe and pervasive sexual harassment," the complaint read. “When Carlson met with Ailes to discuss the discriminatory treatment to which she was being subjected, Ailes stated: ‘I think you and I should have had a sexual relationship a long time ago and then you’d be good and better and I’d be good and better,’ adding that ‘sometimes problems are easier to solve’ that way.”

CNN claims that ten more women have contacted Carlson's lawyer:

CNN’s Tom Kludt and Brian Stelter report that this apparently double-digit number of women have called the firm Smith Mullin; attorney Nancy Erika Smith is representing Carlson. Smith Mullin does wrongful termination law and frequently represents whistleblowers. (In a story Fox News would never in a million years touch, they also spent 20 years on a pro bono case representing Vincent James Landano, who was wrongly convicted of killing a police officer.)

Just before Ailes spoke out, his bosses -- Rupert Murdoch and the two Murdoch sons who run 21st Century Fox -- issued a corporate statement.

"The Company has seen the allegations against Mr. Ailes and Mr. Doocy," the statement said. "We take these matters seriously. While we have full confidence in Mr. Ailes and Mr. Doocy, who have served the company brilliantly for over two decades, we have commenced an internal review of the matter."

The Murdochs had no further comment.

But Ailes did.

He said Fox News "provided her with more on-air opportunities over her 11 year tenure than any other employer in the industry, for which she thanked me in her recent book."

His statement concluded, "This defamatory lawsuit is not only offensive, it is wholly without merit and will be defended vigorously."

I remember reading an article a few months back that one of the Murdoch spawn - possibly the one who is really running the company now, as the old man is retiring - really hates Roger Ailes and was looking for a way to get rid of him.

If so, this seems to be a convenient circumstance to have fallen into his lap. Given all the bimbos and Penthouse pet wannabes who have worked at FAUX over the years, I find it hard to believe that Gretchen with the oversized head is the only one who was ever sexually harassed.

Whatever happend to Laurie Do-me anyway?

21st Century Fox responds to report that Roger Ailes is out at Fox News (http://www.politico.com/blogs/on-media/2016/07/report-roger-ailes-may-be-removed-as-fox-news-ceo-225705)

New York magazine's Gabriel Sherman is reporting that Rupert Murdoch and his sons Lachlan and James have decided to remove Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, following a sexual harassment lawsuit by former anchor Gretchen Carlson.

Sherman reports, citing anonymous sources, that the three are in agreement that Ailes needs to step down, but that there is disagreement over timing--namely whether it happens during or after the Republican National Convention.

A spokesperson for 21st Century Fox told POLITICO This matter is not yet resolved and the review is not concluded."

According to Sherman, attorneys at Paul, Weiss are now conducting interviews with current and former Fox News staff in their offices "because of concerns that the Fox offices are bugged."

Sherman reports that the Murdochs reached their decision after reviewing preliminary results of the Paul, Weiss investigation.

We're following this up and will update as soon as we know more.

Oh noes, not Megyn Kelly too!

http://gawker.com/megyn-kelly-was-allegedly-harassed-by-fox-news-ceo-roge-1783919887

Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly—who ranks among the channel’s most valuable and visible on-air talent, and has maintained close ties with network CEO Roger Ailes—has apparently told lawyers hired by 21st Century Fox that Ailes made sexual advances toward her several years ago, according to reporting by Gabriel Sherman of New York magazine:

"According to two sources briefed on parent company 21st Century Fox’s outside probe of the Fox News executive, led by New York-based law firm Paul, Weiss, Kelly has told investigators that Ailes made unwanted sexual advances towards her about ten years ago when she was a young correspondent at Fox. Kelly, according to the sources, has described her harassment by Ailes in detail."

This revelation comes on the heels of Fox News host Gretchen Carlson’s sexual harassment lawsuit against Ailes. It’s unclear what exactly Ailes’ alleged harassment of Kelly involved, but as Sherman notes, Kelly’s disclosure of her boss’s advances goes a long way to explaining two key mysteries surrounding Carlson’s litigation: The mealy-mouthed statements coming out of 21st Century Fox, and Kelly’s heretofore total lack of involvement in Fox’s response to the lawsuit.

The anchor’s discussions with 21st Century Fox’s third-party firm—Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP—appear to have cemented Ailes’s fate, too. “According to two sources,” Sherman writes, “yesterday afternoon lawyers for 21st Century Fox gave Ailes a deadline of August 1st to resign or face being fired for cause.”

If both Fox and Ailes hold their ground, the latter’s seemingly inevitable ouster would likely mark the end of the current Fox News Channel, whose long-established identity—casual sexism included—has long been inseparable from Ailes. At the same time, few people have been more rewarded by Fox’s culture, and Ailes’ mentoring, than Megyn Kelly herself. As she told Variety earlier this year, “I’ve had a great 12 years here, and I really like working for Roger Ailes.” In that sense, perhaps the rumors of Kelly’s own departure, on her own terms, might be coming true sooner than anyone thought.

Roger Ailes Resigns as Chairman and CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, and Chairman Fox Television Stations
Rupert Murdoch to Assume Role of Chairman and Acting CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network

New York, NY – July 21, 2016 – 21st Century Fox today announced that Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, and Chairman of Fox Television Stations, has resigned from his role effective immediately.

Rupert Murdoch will assume the role of Chairman and acting CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network.

Rupert Murdoch, Executive Chairman, 21st Century Fox, said:

“Roger Ailes has made a remarkable contribution to our company and our country. Roger shared my vision of a great and independent television organization and executed it brilliantly over 20 great years.

Fox News has given voice to those who were ignored by the traditional networks and has been one of the great commercial success stories of modern media.

It is always difficult to create a channel or a publication from the ground up and against seemingly entrenched monopolies. To lead a flourishing news channel, and to build Fox Business, Roger has defied the odds.

His grasp of policy and his ability to make profoundly important issues accessible to a broader audience stand in stark contrast to the self-serving elitism that characterizes far too much of the media.

I am personally committed to ensuring that Fox News remains a distinctive, powerful voice. Our nation needs a robust Fox News to resonate from every corner of the country.

To ensure continuity of all that is best about Fox News and what it stands for, I will take over as Chairman and acting CEO, with the support of our existing management team under Bill Shine, Jay Wallace and Mark Kranz.”

Lachlan Murdoch and James Murdoch, 21st Century Fox’s Executive Chairman, and CEO, respectively, said:

“We join our father in recognizing Roger’s remarkable contributions to our company. Our talented Fox News and Fox Business colleagues, up and down the organization and on both sides of the camera, have built something that continues to redefine the cable news experience for millions of viewers. We are enormously proud of their accomplishments. For them, as well as for our colleagues across our entire organization, we continue our commitment to maintaining a work environment based on trust and respect. We take seriously our responsibility to uphold these traditional, long-standing values of our company.”
