All it took for Leno to get in front of Letterman was Hugh Grant going on Leno and talking about his arrest. Colbert has the political thing down, Fallon would prefer to lob softball questions.

Yep. The TV audience wants to see somebody calling Cheeto out on his bullshit. The so-called "news media" aren't doing it. MSNBC has literally become a suburb of FAUX, after hiring all the female anchors from that network. (Shep Smith won't be far behind). Larry Wilmore might have done it, but Comedy Central pussied out on his show, and they seem to be keeping Sammy Hagar Trevor on a short leash.

So more power to Colbert. He knows the political thing sells, even though his previous success was right wing parody.

Yeah, his voice was sorely missed this past election cycle. He did a couple of long interviews, and watching both of them made me wish he were still around grinding it out nightly.

Willmore was perhaps just too blunt for the standards of the network (not for me, mind you). I've come around slightly on Noah. He, like Stewart, is also a smart guy...he just has the unenviable job of following Stewart. I tend to think really only John Oliver could have done that, but I also think John Oliver is doing something with his own show that I much prefer watching than Oliver as a hypothetical Daily Show host.

Colbert taking over for Letterman...well, Colbert is clearly at his best when delivering politically-themed humor. Initially, he was trying to broaden his range when he took over the Letterman time slot, and clearly all the non-political stuff isn't his strength and he hasn't looked comfortable doing it.

Honestly, in terms of the 'Big 3' traditional network 11:30 hosts (Fallon, Kimmel, Colbert), I can get whatever I need from those guys (and Conan) in online clips. Even with the last ten years of Letterman's run, I very rarely could be bothered to actually watch an entire show when it first aired.

There's just too many of those shows on now, and none of them particularly stand out enough to induce me to watch full-length, first-time televised airings. There's no shortage of middle-aged, man-boys in permanent arrested adolescence lobbing out comedy across virtually every entertainment medium. Plenty of morning wack pack, shock jock Stern wannabes on the radio dials, every 5th 40+ year old guy you meet does stand up comedy (or has a sitcom...or a podcast...or all three).

The ratios of excellence vs. quantity aren't even close. So you get this cacophony of similar-themed comedic voices churning out more or less the same kind of snarky observational humor on radio, tv and online; so many to the point where all of it is a bit devalued.

Like, I've never seen a Fallon or Kimmel bit that blew me away in terms of laughs and insight the way Carlin or Pryor did...or even Letterman when he was peaking years ago.

And they may not be done, reports that Gretchen Carlson may come over as well....

But as for Stewart, he needs to be on HBO like his protege John Oliver.... 30 minutes uncensored would be fantastic.....

I'd probably get an HBO Now subscription if they put Jon Stewart back on all week long. He'd probably skip Fridays again, but they already have Bill Maher on then, so it's not bad. Now that I finally have a stable Android build on my TV streaming box, I'm considering switching to the "legal" streaming apps and away from the torrents anyway. If I could just find one source that streamed ALL of the channels that carry the March Madness games (since that's coming up soon) I'd probably sign up today.

You are more clueless than a wet dog humping Billy Joel's turtle.

Colbert is a puppet in a Time Warner suit. He sucks the corporate dick more than the rabid muskrats at Fox.

Didja pick up on the animal theme? Of course you didn't. Because you are a slave MONKEY
