The brewery says that the cereal brings notes of bubble gum, stone fruit, and spice to the beer
Somerville Brewing Company is throwing something new into its beer recipe, and it’s not a bonsai tree or Kernza. The Massachusetts-based brewery is using Cap’n Crunch Berries cereal in its new Belgian-style ale called “Saturday Morning,” which will launch later this month.

The Belgian ale was named as a tribute to “everybody’s favorite Saturday morning cereal,” at least according to local brewer Mike Johnson, who first dabbled with the recipe in 2000, Beverage Daily reported.

To create the beer, the company used a base recipe similar to its Trekker Trippel beer, a Belgian golden ale, then added Cap’n Crunch Berries and flaked corn during the “mash-in stage.”

“In terms of the brewing process, the crunch berries are just one more grain and sugar source for the wort,” Caitlin Jewell, co-founder of Somerville Brewing Company, told Beverage Daily.

Saturday Morning is just over 9 percent ABV and will be served at the brewery’s taproom. The brewery also has plans to can the beer and release it as a limited edition through distributor Mass Bev Alliance.

I'm sure there's not a snowball's chance in Hell that this will ever make its way to Cascadia, but maybe somebody in the Northeast can try it and submit a review to the Beercyclopedia. :gulp:

Gayer than hell. Seriously, beer is supposed to taste like beer. No offense to all you guys that want your beer to taste like anything but beer - I want mine to taste like cheap, cold beer.

I wouldn't drink this stuff on a regular basis at all. But it's a goddamned 9% Trippel Ale, so I sure as Hell would try it once if it were available around here. I'm sure Rogue Ale will put out something similar.... they have already co-branded some odd flavored beers with an Oregon donut shop in recent years

Ford - you can buy Midnight Moon at any Likker Store in town. Alkyhol content isn't the end all/be all. Please draw the line at drankin queer beer.

Alcohol content is a bonus of course, but I just prefer beers that don't have a bunch of chemical crap and preservatives in it, like all the watered down mass produced cheap shit does. If I never drank a beer for the buzz again, I'd probably still stick with my microbrews, I'd just go with the weaker stuff that runs about 4- 5%.

Truth is, I don't get drunk all that often anymore anyway. If I was somebody who drank to escape shit I didn't want to deal with, I'd be shitfaced until the next election... and no health care available to replace my liver when it expired, so probably not a good idea :gulp:

Or in your case, flavorless ricey shit... :)

But I'm not a fan of the silly overly flavored beers...

Yeah that pretty much describes most of my meals too, lol. These days I don't drink very often anyway so I just stick with my old favorite.

Although one of my buddies at the gym told me about what may be the gayest beer ever brewed - it's a beer for bodybuilders that has a ton of protein in every bottle. Now, if you've never had protein shakes or protein bars - they all taste like shit. I don't want to even imagine how awful a protein infused beer would taste.

And I'm sure you would find some rednecks who think fruit flavored moonshine is just as blasphemous as fruit flavored beer. I still have yet to try moonshine of any kind, but I'm going to pick up a jar of that stuff one of these days. I think I have seen Midnight Moon somewhere around here. Kinda hard to miss those pint jars mixed in among the whiskey bottles in the store. :beers:

Nah, flavored shine has been around forever.

Hey - one thing you'll like about Midnight Moon is it's flavored with fruit only. Meaning strawberry is nothing more than white liquor with actual strawberries in it. You should try it. It's around 18 bucks a jar here and he's got several flavors and just plain old white liquor too.

I occasionally get on test marketing lists and get new products delivered to my house to evaluate. One thing I thought I was going to get a while back was a jar of flavored moonshine. Think it was supposed to be apple pie flavored or something like that. Sadly, it never showed up. Or somebody fucking stole it.... possibly even the FedEx driver. :(

I think both Midnight Moon and Old Smokey apple pie flavored shine are flavored with apples and cinnamon. Both are lower alcohol content so they're smoother sipping.

I still find it surprising just how many people around here know somebody who makes illegal white liquor. A few months back my best friend's brother-in-law pulls out a jar at a party and passes it around. He drinks the stuff all the time and he hasn't gone blind yet so I took a swig, mainly to shut him up. Holy shit - I don't know what the alcohol content was but it was probably 80% alcohol and it was absolutely awful. People still think there's something magical about "real" shine but it's all just white liquor. I prefer drinking the store bought - it's white liquor but it's actually clean and not made out behind some trailer.

Having said that...I always wanted to make a still and make my own white liquor. But it's a pain to make and still illegal as hell but...it would probably be pretty cool to make your own.

I'd be afraid I'd blow it up. Though I would brew my own beer if I had the space for it. Probably try to make wine too. Not sure if I would try anything more flammable. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/images/nuke.gif

Back in the late 70s and early 80s a lot of people around here started making homemade wine. I guess it was a fad cause it seemed like half the parents in the neighborhood were making wine. And they'd make huge quantities of it at once, which was good for the kids cause we could sneak a good bit without them knowing. Come to think of it, I guess we were all sauced most of one summer, parents and kids. Nowadays I don't even really like wine.

However, Vandy will be pleased to know I'll be drankin some cheap cold beer later tonite. In true redneck fashion it's been in a cooler on ice all day.

Guy I went to school with makes apple pie shine. I've never tried it.

Grimes once brought back some shine from WV. Awful. Probably what paint thinner tastes like.

One of our supervisors has a DIY beer supply store. I'll have to ask him about adding cereal to one of his recipes.
