I do worry that a lot of people around the world are going to be Harvey deniers and despite all the facts and scientific evidence that clearly show beyond any doubt that Texas has been hit by this extraordinary weather, just choose to say it isn't happening...

Hopefully they don't find too many dead crisis actors...

It's brought to mind a lot of the Katrina stuff again.

Because I'm not American I can't comment too much on that stuff without a 'fuck you foreigner!' push back but the more you dig around that stuff be it police blocking the bridge out from downtown areas, the fact it was caused by the US Army, the fucked up compensation based on house values rather than cost to rebuild meaning that 100 000 black people couldn't come home and so on it's really disturbing...

Anyhoo hopefully because GW Bush rightfully got such a political kicking after Katrina even Orange 45 will realize that he needs to sort shit out.

As for the original point of this thread to make people aware of the charitable option, last time I looked Americans give more money per head than any other country in the world which is incredibly admirable but this is a US disaster so surely the US government should be fixing it using all the money you guys already pay in tax?

The local NBC station did a 24 hour telethon on FB Live yesterday and raised $120k.

Trump keeps pushing infrastructure improvements, here's his chance.

I'm helping a friend do some renovations this week while I'm off and someone made a joke "good thing we bought materials before Harvey hit and everything gets more expensive." Gas prices are supposed to jump over the next few days, I topped everything off before the prices get too crazy but hey, if you need gas, you're going to pay anyways. I had to laugh when one of the network news shows was talking to someone with a Suburban or similar V8 rig, if the economy goes to shit again those people are going to be crying.

Gas prices here were $2.56 yesterday - same two stations I looked at yesterday have gone up to $2.86 today. Good thing I don't have to pay for gas for my car or my kid's car.

What will hopefully be learned in a broader sense around the country as a result from Harvey pertains to both the component for flood compensation in homeowner's insurance policies, as well as how the home insurance industry works in general. A lot of the really big name national insurance companies won't even issue policies for homes within 10 miles of certain coastlines anymore, so the average joe gets stuck buying this bunk, junk insurance by regional companies that ends up being worthless when the homeowner has to utilize it.

Big fucking scam, and I'll bet a lot of these bunk, junk insurance companies around Houston will go belly up really quick in the wake of this. Sadly, that's usually how one ends up identifying these shit companies.
